On the topic of a 4WD for under $20k, ive got a bit of a story. I went through this journey roughly 2.5 years ago whilst i was waiting for a Grenadier i had a deposit on and landed on the following - A mint one owner 2001 SR5 Turbo Diesel Hilux with 250,000kms which was owned by a toyota fanatic in his 60s and was moving onto his 3rd hilux. The ute had been used solely for family touring trips around Australia and had been garaged since day one, never being used as a work vehicle. It also came with the following mods/extras - -ARB Bullbar and rear bar -Runva Winch -Brown Davis Bash plates -UHF radio -IPF Spotlights -2.5 lift with 31 mud terrains -ARB canopy with wing side doors -Complete custom drawer system with a 40L engel -Onboard ARB compressor -black duck seat covers -roof rack and awning - 115L long ranger tank (As Ronnie can attest to, to fit the vehicle out with the above costs you alot of coin) The whole ute cost me $17k and i spent about $5k over two years on preventable maintenance such as clutch, Injectors, ball joints, uni joints etc. (to be fair you could have also probably pushed it as it was and spent nothing) and have also upgraded the dual battery system to Lithium etc with a redarc bcdc. At the end of the day im into a turn key tourer, that also presents extremely well for less than $25k... I have explored most of the VIC high country with it over the past 2 years, and used it for home renovations in between and additionally, it consistently pulls 11l/100km with its full touring weight. So there is certainly still some great buys to be had out there if you keep an eye out, and dont mine driving an older vehicle.

Fantastic episode as usual 'Cheaper than buying one every week' says Mr 'Fleet Manager' Dahl. Brownes Iced Coffee used to be the best, before it was sold. Damn sure all the love caller was Torben. 20k for a used or New really limits your market, nice find Duggo, but if it seems too good to be true, not bad on short notice and in concussion protocol. Feel you need more than make and model, really need a year as well. Duggo sounded very ordinary at around the 1:18:03 mark almost slurring, get well n rest up

That's sort of impossible as the D pillars contain louvered flaps that don't lock.

I'm a die hard Toyota man, have a built 80s, Id like to point out the comment about GQ being old! While older, you can spend 10s of thousands less than newer fixed axle vehicles like the 70s or Grenadier or anything else, even if you were to spend 80k on a GQ or an 80s which is insane, but it can be done and more! You will have a vehicle like new again and 10s of times more capable than any other vehicle in the groups for the price stock new! How much have you spent on the Grenadier so far Ronny? How much have you spent on the 76 series? break that down each I can tell you Id spent less on y 80s and still have as comfortable and way more capable vehicle that will out last my lifetime! There is plenty of spares from Nissan and Toyota, I can still buy a brand new gearbox, diffs, crate engine from both and never had an issue buying parts if needed! This is not even including the Aftermarket here and in Aussie is massive for both of these vehicles! No I don't look like the Jones with the latest 100 plus K new rig with another 100-150k plus spent on shit I don't need added to it! ]I could spend twice what I have paid for mine and still have spent half of your new vehicle have 10x the capability which I already do and it would be brand new condition even if its 30years since its left the factory! That's fully teared down, blasted and re painted and new or built better than OEM. IMO many of you guys have lossed focus and only seem to think new is where its out, better is relative esp in the off road community! We don't need the latest shit. I don't need add blue, DPF crap or electrical crap and dealer crap frankly you guys can have all that crap! I could have 3 or 4 of these trucks compared to your one, and because you now have 3, I could have a fleet of GQs and 80s built. haha, actually like that idea. Plus another things is that extra money can go to trips, repairs if needed, touch wood never needed it, usually tow or help others, it will happen one day, maybe not overnight, but like Pantene it will happen! but I will likely be able to fix it with some duct tape and zip ties, try that with ya 200k rigs! cheers. Run what ya brung, have fin, don't be a wallet warrior!

@@markelliott6105 Nothing against new cars being sold, I get it, I'm just saying we are getting a little out of hand as with everything how much we need and how much we need to spend and everyone doesn't need to do that, or go into debt racking up 100s of it's, if you can afford it, go for it, but its not necessary, as you say we cant buy second hand if people don't buy new! But we have carparks piling up with EVs and sales have dropped, because the costs aren't sustainable, let alone the BS green washing! I have money, but at the same time I don't go out and buy the latest every year! I was just pointing out a perspective of what you can get value for money on older vehicles and I also mentioned it is very pertinent to 4wd, I know guys' rocking 2k vehicles and go most places we do, my club has guys ranging for members with 4-5 vehicles all 4wds, Raptor, and others, what suits your needs or wants go for it. But run what ya brung seems to be getting lossed esp with youtubers looking for content in recent years.
