My wife, 8 year old daughter, dog and I just spent 6 weeks in Baja Sur Mexico. I drove down ( 26 hours but no need for a pricey rental car ) with the family dog and surfboards/gear and my girls flew down. We rented 2 houses on our trip, one for a month and one for two weeks. The entire trip costed less than a week in Hawaii ( $5,000 ).., next summer, we are going for 2 months and eventually the entire summer only to be home for the school year…

I have a question for you guys. Everybody seems about travelling the world after saving a whole bunch of money. What I'd like to know is how can we travel while continuously making enough money to sustain the trip. I'm talking about hardcore vagabonding while freelancing so that money NEVER runs out. So that you NEVER have to return home and NEVER have to be broke. I want to accomplish this in the next 5 months as I work away at my marketing business, at KZbin and by doing freelance voiceovers. I don't know if it's possible, but I'm going to spend all 4 months of my summer travel vlogging and living it up if I can put away enough of a cash cushion from now until May of 2017. I hope to make money as I travel by freelancing remotely. I'll let you know how it goes.

Already looking forward to your next video guys! I'm thinking about doing an inter rail, but i have no idea how much it's gonna cost
@vagabrothers
@vagabrothers 10 жыл бұрын
Interrail might not be the most economical way of traveling through Europe. It really only makes sense when you are on a whistle-stop tour, visiting a ton of places in a short period of time - all of which are covered in the ticket. In the last decade European travel has changed completely with the introduction of budget airlines such as Ryan Air and East Jet, so flying makes more sense if you are only going to a few places on your trip. Check prices at SkyScanner.com

Great videos!! Just wondering what’s the best way to go about getting travel visas? Should they be arranged before leaving or can you get them as you go??
@vagabrothers
@vagabrothers 10 жыл бұрын
It depends on the countries you visit and which country you come from, so it's really hard to generalize. In some places, like SE Asia, you can get visas on arrival for many countries. In others, like China, Russia, the US and elsewhere, it's a much more formal process that must be done in advance.

Hey d00ds, not really sure how to put this question clearly... But is it viable to travel the world without spending much of your initial money by working almost every where you stop? (e.g. If I were to stop and work somewhere in Thailand, would I be able to survive in Thailand of the wage I would be making?)

Great video boys! I wish I did more traveling myself, however with my job time is the biggest issue. As you know, in Europe it's standard for people to take 3 months off at a time while being able to maintain one job unlike America where it's frowned upon:-( My question for you is how do you make money in between traveling? We could all quit today and travel the world on a buck but what are you returning to? I don't necessarily care about making a million dollars, but the headache of jumping job to job for the sacrifice of traveling is where I think people struggle. Is it worth traveling when you have to find a new job every time you return? In this economy many people don't have the ability to leave a job and then pick up a new one immediately. Especially a company they really enjoy and are trying to excel and move up in. My Destination sounds like a rare exception that supported your expenses, but now that you travel on your own what kind of jobs do you look for when you return? I guess I'll just have to wait until next episode!
@vagabrothers
@vagabrothers 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Christy, thanks for your comment. Obviously, in America the biggest challenge is finding a way to make the time to travel. If you like your job and you've been there for a while, could you negotiate a sabbatical? Or if you plan on switching jobs, could you create a 3 month space before starting your new job? That way, you don't need to stress about looking for a job - you'll have one waiting for you.
@christytankersley8825
@christytankersley8825 10 жыл бұрын
vagabrothers A sabbatical would be nice but again, that's more common in Europe where sabbatical's are growing into a common trend. Most companies here in America frown upon taking or even requesting a long leave of absence like a sabbatical. C'mon America get with it! Mostly because employees are more valuable than ever for a given company or business due to employee cutbacks which result from a lack of funding or budget. Thanks economy, what else is new. I know I sound negative but it's the truth. Businesses weigh so heavily on each employee these days, there's no way someone can take extra time off because of that heavy dependency on the employee. Maybe I should just fake a maternity leave? lol! I think the average person's best bet is finding time in between jobs, but again it's rare for companies to give the average new hire 3-6 months before starting a job. Organizations don't post jobs to hire people next quarter or year, they want to get people in there training and starting asap or they will most likely find another person. You could say screw it and just travel the world before you find your next job but lets be honest...would you really enjoy yourself spending money counting quarters in Brazil when you know you're returning to unemployment in America. Not fun. And yes, of course there are exceptions to everything I just said so I wish everyone the best of luck finding your way around these obstacles. I'm just referring to the average American. What do you both do for a living that gives you all this free time anyway, can I send you my resume!? ;)

+annabel garcia Buy your food in supermarkets and stay in hostels or private pensions. Avoid restaurants on tourist routes and hotels. Also hitchhiking or car sharing is a cheap alternative for trains. Ironically planes are often cheaper than trains btw. Normally there are websites where people coordinate about joint travel in cars. And yes, these countries are save to travel alone as a woman.

+annabel garcia Grocery shop instead of eating out all the time. Sleep cheap-- there are a ton of videos on that. I've been living on 30 bucks a week, which includes food and touristy things as well as transportation!

hey that really sounds impressive, but if you got a normal job, you haven´t got 3 month of vacation^^ the maximum is like 1 month, which you also have to distribute all over the year

Isabella Dunn That's totally cool. Long-term travel is not for everyone, or at least not at the present moment. Later on we are going to talk about alternative ways to plan out your work/career to facilitate traveling for extended periods of time, such as working abroad or creating some travel time between switching jobs. There's a lot to cover - more than can fit in a 3 minute video!
