It's late 2024 and thankfully the sea is still there, but there is even more shrinkage at the north end of the small sea just in the last couple of years. I'm thinking 2030 unless Kazakhstan creates an overflow channel between the North Sea and the remains of the South (western side) Sea. Kazakhstan still hasn't started increasing the height of the dam - it was supposed to start around 2019 or so but the pandemic stopped it and there's been no talk about restarting it - so Aralsk would almost have waterfront property again. I'm trying to get to Uzbekistan in 2025 and see the sea for myself before it vanishes. Hoping it happens.
