Mikael Agricola DID not invent the Finnish language. He invented only written Finnish. Finnish has been spoken for thousands of years...

Just to clarify: Agricola invented the written language, but finnisch had been spoken for a long time before. He did come up with a lot of new words though. And by the way: I AM SO HAPPY THAT YOU TRAVELLED TO FINLAND INSTEAD OF SWEDEN! Also, you should totally visit Finlabd in the winter too :)

Hello! A Finn here, just som info, Sweden ”built” a lot in Finland becuase we were a part of Sweden until 1809 ☺️ there is so much things to see in Helsinki, just perhaps not in the city centre. Also, we go to Estonia to buy alcohol because the tax on alcohol is much lower there, so even if the ticket costs 25€ you save money.

8:25 This is correct, our language did not exist until Mikael Agricola single-handedly created it. Before the mid 1500s, ethnic Finns only communicated non-verbally. You know, by grunting, nodding, scowling, staring... Historical sources recount how difficult it was for the Swedes to boss us around.

As a Finn, it's so fun to see others exploring my home country. 😄 The fishes you had are called ''muikku'', I love them. Also I can confirm that Finns do go to Estonia to get cheap booze lol. Alcohol is so highly taxed in Finland so it's cheaper to go to Tallinn, especially if you buy larger amounts. 😆 I'm happy to see you visited Suomenlinna fortress, it's one of my favorite places in Helsinki during summer!

Finland.... known for beating Russia, skiing, and saunas. Their language is related to Hungarians for some reason due to migrations from 3500 years ago, and no invader or colonizer was able to drive out that small population in all that time. Swedes might have built a fort, but it was to stop the Russians from building a fort. Finland has always been treated like a buffer state until recently.
