I first went to Disneyland when I was almost 30. And again much later. Now I am almost 80 and would like to go one more time.

+Hajra Meeks yes, brilliant idea, the first set of Caran D'ache I bought was a half stick set of 15 for $11 at an art store 15 years ago, they are great, I don't know why they stopped making that set, there was even a place for a brush in the container. I also watched your gouache portrait vs watercolor demo, it was lovely. Take care!

What a neat kit, first I've even considered water brushes, they just looked leak-prone at the store. Love your videos!
@HajraMeeks
@HajraMeeks 9 жыл бұрын
Harke Juice Thanks, you are very kind! Yes, the water brushes are good for travel. I didn't find that they leaked, but they do let water out a bit too fast and this results in less blending control. Their plastic bristles are also more likely to lift previous color washes than traditional sabel, squirrel or synthetic watercolor brushes. You can just use a travel watercolor brush and take a small bottle or cup for water if you want an alternative to the plastic water brushes.

Did you have fun at Disneyland? I grew up close to Disneyland so I was able to go for free while in high school because it seemed almost everyone works there at one time or another. You're never too old for Disneyland (unless you're like me and just physically can't go anymore). I'm now in L.A. and South OC and wish I could go back since its been years since I've been. If you live decently close, Downtown Disney can be fun to visit and sketch. Since its free, you can go enough times to familiarize yourself with certain areas to get sketches off of. If you drink, I recommend going to the hotel bars. Usually friendlier staff and less crowds. Also a great place to sketch!

+My Panda Paints Sorry you haven't been to Disneyland in a while, and thanks for sharing about Downton Disney, etc. Yes, it was fun and beautiful at Disneyland when I was there, as all the holiday lights and things were up. But it was also stressful and very crowded as we went on christmas eve and the day before, and spent more time in lines and walking through crowds than on the rides. But, it was just a visual feast, and if I do ever go again, I'd like to go when it's less crowded. I live in Northern CA, so hard to go too often, though.

+Hajra Meeks I figured out that you live in the Bay Area soon after my post. :-0 I'm glad you got to experience it even though it was crowded! That's what sucks about it now. Too many people to properly enjoy it if you are only there for one day.
@HajraMeeks

Yeah, it was SUPER crowded, but at least I was there for two days and two nights, plus I stayed at the disneyland hotel so I was in the park and got to see more than if I had stayed further away.

Hajra Meeks agree! I hadn't thought of a few of these. I carry a small travel size packet of handiwipes for my hands only because I usually make a terrible mess on myself. :-) Some baby wipes in a Ziploc bag will work, too. I jus realized this thread is a few years old - sorry, new subscriber!

Re smudging paper when you repeatedly erase, try a kneadable eraser? They pick the graphite up rather than trying to push it off (hence kneading them every now and then to expose a fresh surface). It leaves the surface clean, and the only evidence that there was a pencil mark would be any depressions left by the point. You also don't get rubber dust all over the place. Moleskine paper can handle a fair amount of abuse. It's a very different experience and result. And they really last a long time.

David Thornley Thanks for your comment! Yes, I use a kneaded eraser often when working with watercolor paper--primarily to lighten a pencil drawing before I paint over it. In my years of painting, I've found Arches puts up with more abuse than moleskine watercolor journal paper, but I do like to have those little journals around for traveling convenience. (I also recently purchased pentalic watercolor journals and have been told they have tougher paper than the moleskines. We'll see.)
