I was lucky enough to snag this mini palette on an e-bay auction a few years back for $10. I swapped out the Cotman paints with my professional 1/2 pans that I filled myself from tubes. It's a great little, travel palette. Great hack, btw!

I love the way you did this, Kim! What a fun coincidence; I was gifted the same travel kit ages ago, so it´s obviously much older and holds 12 pans and that cute brush. They are so expensive here in Finland. Tfs, Fia xx

Oh what a great gift. Yeah I have no idea how long these have been on the market for. I've seen the other larger palettes from this company, I even have a couple and some of those are quite dinky. But I hadn't seen this really dinky one before, no idea why! I wonder if they have re-jigged it from 12 to 8 pans then relaunched it on the market?

Very late but that blue part on the front can pop off on one side. It's meant for you to hold the palette with your finger for a quick plein air or urban sketch

What a great hack! I have a little Colman set which I take with me on holiday. It’s different to this one, but I love that this has the little tray where they snap in. When I take mine out of my bag, the pans have usually stuck to the lid. I may have to try this hack so they stick to the bottom! Xxx

I have a feeling that might be why Winsor and Newton added in those trays! But I'm not sure 🤣 I've had that problem too! The hack works nicely, you do get a little bit of movement, but if it gets bad I just change the sticky. When I used the tin I had to put the kitchen towel in to stop them moving about in all the space, and that worked too!

You may want to try wall tack to hold the pans. It is strong but removable.

The blue rubberised bit on the outside...it’s actually a handle to slide over your hand!!

Ah yes, I know that one of the Winsor and Newton small palettes has the blue rubber handle thingy you describe (because I have that one as well!) but not on this mini Cotman Palette I am afraid. The blue bit on this one is hard plastic, I think it just holds the brush and is a bit of a design feature but doesn't seem to move or have any other function.

If you don’t stick the plastic down into that little tray that used to hold the frames, could you also use that for even MORE mixing space?? That’s what I’m all about, more and more mixing space!!!

I am too and almost want to buy it but it’s so exspensive in the US now it’s twice what it should cost ! I can literally get the 45 half pan set for the same price or a few dollar LESS which is absurd!!

can i ask about the travel brushes you have in the sennelier tin what are they?

So the metal one is the one that came with the Winsor and Newton Cotman Mini Plus. The Winsor and Newton Field boxes also carry the little metal fold-out brush I believe. The other one, the wood handle one, came with the Sennelier Aqua Mini Watercolor Set.

Hiya Sheryl so I'm using a few different brands at the moment, just trying to work out which I like the best. The ones I have swapped out in this set are mostly Prima Marketing as I like the colours, I think one of them is a Winsor and Newton Artist but the rest are all Prima and I've listed them below the video in the description. It is hard to pick, I think. For me I've found it mostly through trial and error which is expensive! I think I am still looking for my ideal set, so I am still testing out colors and brands. How about you, do you have any current faves?

I went to my first watercolour class on Saturday. It was 2 scrapbook layouts. Our tutor recommended the Prima ones as good quality at an affordable price. I did read somewhere that they are artist quality, so if I decide to get some, I will probably try and source some of the Prima ones. Not sure that I like watercolour style though, but I do like the portablility of it.

Oooo! Sounds exciting! I like the Prima and I also read they were artist quality but I'm not sure. Only because they don't say what pigments they are made from which is unusual for artist quality paints and I'm not sure of the lightfastness. But I would definitely recommend them and buy them again! Have fun playing and discovering!

Hi Jessica, so the Cotman palette is approximately: 10.5 cm long, 5.3 cm wide, 2.7 cm inches high or if you prefer inches that is approx 4.13 inches long, 2.09 inches wide, 1.06 inches high.

You pop it open, carefully, the black part is supposed to be in the metal part of the brush

Ahh! Well most of my audience is from the US plus KZbin SEO works better with the US spelling, so I've opted for the US spelling!
