The 52minis patreon has become the hub of my hobby world, actually it's the discord, but patreon is the gateway. I've enjoyed being a part of many of the other communities out there, but this one, being founded around Alex benefits enormously and then attracts more folks that it's just good to be around, and draw inspiration and advice from. If I could suggest one thing folks might do to carry them through a hobby slump or a marathon army project, it's to come there and enjoy. Works for me, and I'm a challenge! The winter has been a hobby challenge for me, building work was supposed to be two rooms, and then they found asbestos throughout the whole original house and we've been living in a 3 room extension ever since................................ My hobby has had to fit into two of my carry on sized "really useful boxes" and spread just over a folding table I can only put up once the day is done. I'm effectively travelling to my hobby via my armchair. This has meant mostly setting aside painting, and limiting my joys to assembling models (and you know how much fun that is!) and converting/kitbashing, and scratchbuilding bits. I can't recommend giving thought to a portable, take anywhere, hobby setup enough. You never know when your hobby space may get stacked against a wall barricaded with furniture and sealed behind plastic.... And one day I may travel for work or pleasure - that could happen!

My dad has had some health issues recently so because I work from home I decided to move in with him temporarily to help take care of him. That being said, I had to decide exactly this, what to bring and what not to bring. I have a big fold out table, so I just brought that, setup a 2nd desk work station to work from and brough along a lot of my hobby stuff so I can hobby while im here at my dads. While I do miss the convenience of my own desk, it's nice to have the option to destress and paint for awhile or prep some models in my down time. Granted it's not near as organized but it's working for now. Anyways, thanks for sharing...

Brilliant video and something every painter struggles with at some stage. I used to drive trucks so I developed a small take away paint box. It had about 6 paints, 3 brushes, some tissues and a spray bottle of water. I had to preplan what to take but it worked well enough. A friend of mine makes his 40k figures in his car during lunch at work…..haven’t tried that yet 😉

What you did with paints I learnt to do with books. My hobby being reading clashing with my Being constantly on the move. I discovered that Keeping a stock of light paperbacks, short stories,l and novels on various topics so that I can easily bring 2/3 with me wherever on a trip, a vacation or a commute, is a great way to stick to my hobby without raising the expectation bar too high. Light reading for noisy travels, deep reading for those 10 minutes bedside moments, or long novels for unexpected time windows… made me truly relate with your video! Thank you for sharing Alex!

This is a great vid, and something I found myself doing this week as well! I decided I would bring two sets of minis: 30k marines that were built and primed, which I hadn't started painting but had decided on an imperial fist/rusty scheme... and some new minis on the sprue I hadn't even built, so that if I wanted to paint I could paint, if I wanted to build I could build. All my paints and tools fit in my little tackle box, and I got to relax with my family while still squeezing some hobby time in haha

Another option is one of those clip-on desk selfie ring lights, you can plug them in anywhere, even with a portable phone charger and you can get some small ones that are pretty decent. I actually use a larger one for my own home use

I now travel with a “slapchop kit” - a black, grey and white, and a set of Army Painter speed paints, +/- some metallics. I usually paint stand alone models that I otherwise might not get to painting among my bigger projects. I always come back revitalised to keep painting - it’s been great!

Hobby slumps, we all know them. Good you found a way to re-engage. Know, that the hobby inspiration comes and goes like all things in life - In Waves, similar to the tides of breathing, the waves of the ocean, general wellbeing, et cetera. Don't punish yourself it the inspiration doesn't come 24/7/365+. Take time off and learn to accept when you just aren't feeling it, and don't mentally punish or push yourself for that. Concerning light: As I watched your video, just before you got to the point about light I thought to myself "If I were to travel with my paints and brushes and a mini or two, how would I solve the problem of having a consistent light source?" And my rather new Ledlenser headtorch came to mind. It honestly feels like a revolution. It's super small and lightweight, lasts for many many hours before it has to be recharged, has very bright, pure white light that can even be dimmed, and it didn't cost the world (roughly 80€). I just put the headtorch on my head, adjusted its angle on the band and grabbed a mini. Honestly, it may even be better than a regular desklamp for painting, as the light always comes from where you look. You could even paint while lying on your back on the floor if you really wanted. Just thought I would share this mid-video, before seeing what solution you came up with. Thank you again for your videos. Beautifully filmed and presented, as always. I used to bring along a minimalistic setup in a small plastic toolbox. It had just enough room for a few minis, paints and brushes and one of those foldable silicon camping mugs to put water in. And a USB LED spotlight from IKEA. Haven't used it for a few years but maybe I should pick it up again. Wonder if I could make the lid work as a wet palette...

This was nice, I often will bring a sketchbook with me when I go places. Even if I don't use it I'm always happy I did. I like the idea of having a wet pallet and brushes ment for traveling too that way it's a matter of picking the minis and the paints. Alex, my home move resulted in a similar situation for me the past 3 weeks; your video resonated with me. Loved the video. I've been in a slump longer then I can remember, having to reorganise pretty much everything as I was a hoarder before a painter, but it's giving me something to really muse on. In regards to light however, I know Cobolt Keep has some painting handles that come with a decent, re-chargeable LED light that can be screwed into the handle. It was more than enough when I last went camping, though it might be possible to find a little LED light that might do the same.

Very nice video again and a very lovely Stormcast Eternal. Did you know there are portable daylightlamps especialy for travel? I bought mine for 30-ish euros online. They perform better when plugged in, but the battery lasts for about an hour when fully charged. Anyways, great video!

Honestly you should not illustrate how to paint something when you are away, we can all figure that out, if there is a will there is a way. Perhaps focus on how you can bring it back? Just going to waste all that time and effort fixing a perfect paint job due to friction( bubble wrap helps, but it certainly won’t matter if you didn’t use varnish. Crushing, if you didn’t pack right or are traveling with people or kids that are totally unaware you are carrying the equivalent of a faberge egg and perhaps family problems? Dude, never bring your hobby on vacation. Go to a hobby for vacation.

Don't defend them for misleading you. And don't refer me to their website which has every incentive to lie to protect their scam. The CEO has nearly admitted to being misleading in interviews if you watched them and they've changed their website wording since they were called out. Like you did in this later comment. I don't feel tricked, maybe because I'm European, and we have a king over here, but I would never dream of someone thinking they become nobility for 50 dollars. I also think I'm more afraid over the apparent mob type mentality that arises in people in times like these and I'd rather stay and have that conversation than jump ship.

Just because you see it as a novelty product doesn't mean that everyone would or that their advertising practices aren't misleading. I also don't see it as "mob mentality". I see it as a lot of people recognizing the truth and wanting acknowledgment and awareness. The more I see your responses regarding this, the less respect I have for you. Do you truly not care that you may have promoted a product that is misleading people to the point of being a scam? I'm unpleasantly shocked that you would rather give what's pretty obviously a scam a defense at the expense of your viewers and your reputation.

I have heard from quite a few people that they very much enjoy their gift, they had a good laugh, and some trees where planted.

Kinda makes me sad you agreed to do an advert for a scam company. Established titles cannot make you a lord and their "titles" are just souvenirs, you aren't legally a Lord or Lady if you have one of their certificates and you cannot use that title for anything official nor would it be recognized in any court of law. The company that runs them is based out of Hong Kong and there isn't some loophole to becoming a lord (or laird) in Scotland by owning a 5ft square of land, there is a lot more required to be officially a Lord or Lady than that I am afraid. Still enjoy your actual content though :).

The company is officially under investigation by the Advertising Standards Authority. I am ashamed that you not only took their sponsorship but seem to be defending them.

I'm fairly certain you're asking for something that won't exist, at least not publicly. From the ASA website, they'll provide confirmation of additional action to those who made a complaint. It also says that in cases of high volume they may not respond to everyone. I have seen a posted email that is claimed to be a response from the ASA to a complaint confirming that it was being reviewed, but of course I do not have first-hand knowledge of this. Based on multiple KZbinrs, it appears that Established Titles has canceled all of its advertising contracts and stopped sponsorship ads. I find this interesting because on the ASA website it does state that: "If it’s not that simple, or we think there’s potentially a serious problem under the rules, a formal investigation may be needed. We’ll write to advertisers and other appropriate parties, e.g. ad agencies, the media that broadcast or published the ad and the clearance centre. We’ll explain what the complaint is about, which Code rules are relevant and ask for a response, together with evidence. If the potential problem is serious, we might ask the media to limit or stop airing, publishing or distributing the ad, until the investigation is complete." Based on their sudden cessation of advertising even at the height of gifting season and at cost of breaking contracts, it seems plausible that they were told to stop. Additionally, in looking into the process posted by the ASA on their website, they explicitly state that details of a case are kept confidential until their findings are published. So you will not see public acknowledgement of an investigation until after it's over. Haven't watched the video yet, however, seeing Established Titles as the sponsor promoted me to write this comment. It might be worth your time to look into the shell companies that make up Established Titles, along with the fact it only gives you a souvenir plot. That info can be found looking at the Scotland Land Registration Act 2012, Section 22. As well, The Court of the Lord Lyon has also clarified this by stating: "Ownership of a souvenir plot of land does not bring with it the right to any description such as 'laird', 'lord' or 'lady'. The words 'lord' and 'lady' apply to those on whom a peerage has been confirmed and do not relate to the ownership of land. Ownership of a souvenir plot of land is not sufficient to bring a person otherwise ineligible within the jurisdiction of the Lord Lyon for seeking a coat of arms." Effectively, you're giving money to a Chinese grifter who actually bought up the land and you're getting nothing in return. Just wanted to pass this along since having a sponsor like that may not be the best for any channel.

@@52Miniatures The lastest news on their site is from Nov 17 of this year and previously, Sept 17 2021 so I'm not seeing anything recently that you're referring to or any release regarding the current situation. I brought this up since, as indicated in Scott Shafers video, I don't assume any malicious intent on your side. However, with more info coming to light, along with KZbin creators who have since broken/ended their contracts with Established Titles, it could look somewhat questionable to promote them. Especially given that there has been no info released on how many trees have actually been planted (since Established Titles has a 3rd party business of OneTreePlanted handling the planting). Regardless, you can only make the best choice for yourself at this point so I guess we'll see what the future holds. Cheers!

@@52Miniatures Thanks for following up. As I said, we'll see what the future holds. Not a direct comparison but still a fair comparison: over the last year, Liver King has grown as a brand, part of that brand being he claims no PED or steroid use. Today, Derek from More Plates More Dates revealed, with empirical evidence, those claims are lies. All you can do is your own research and make your own choices, business and otherwise. It still may be an idea to stay apprehensive, especially when you see large creators such as Philip DeFranco not officially speaking on it but also making a business decision to side step them, in case more info comes to light.
