Would like to add, with the nail varnish racks, I was frustrated in the same way of the bolts preventing them being flush. However if you get a slightly longer bolt, i have motorcycles, my drawers in my toolbox are full of odds and sods of nuts, bolts and washers. You can connect them together and use a single side vs double sides. Every mm counts, or so I tell my wife. 😂😂😂.

the CRI value is more important for LEDs than the temp, you need a CRI of 90+ for correct red rendition
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides3 ай бұрын
yes, you are completely correct! And it is the reason why the R9 lamp is so amazing. As I mentioned in the video, I'm not confident on the science enough to explain CRI and why it's so hard to achieve the R9 value of 90+ So, I tried to keep things simple for people and point them in the right direction

@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Yep the R9 is the best lamp I've used. For my Ambient lighting I went with a 600x600mm daylight Lumen on the ceiling, I'm only in a 3mx3m(roughly) room and it's pretty much directly above me, so it works well enough. Thanks for sharing you build. It’s really inspired me to do the same. I’ve bought the filter lights you have but I upgraded the speaker to a Harmon Kardon Citation 500. I don’t have new height adjust desks yet as I saw a lot of reviews that the FlexiSpot desk were really wobbly! Due to the 2 legs and also quality control isn’t great with them and a lot of people have massive issues with lumps taken out of the desk top when they unpack it. I’ve also just bought the wave 1+2 of Two Thin Coats paint range with the paint racks from Sarrisa Precision. Desks and chairs definitely an urgent buy now. The chair looks nice but a lot of gaming chairs are designed for visually pleasing the customer, so I’d like to try it out first. Thanks again. :)

A really excellent series that have taught me to use Acrylics after multiple failures and returns to enamels. I would love to know how you did the aged wood on the Corsair ship model and what advice you have for painting larger flat surfaces such as panel 3 x 6 cm?
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides5 күн бұрын
Thank you 🙏 Really glad you’re finding the series useful. The Corsair galley is from a while ago now, so I’ll have to dig and see if I can find the recipe. Painting wise, I primed with with an airbrush, based it with hand brush, dry brushed the texture and then washed it to add shadow and dirt I seem to remember. For larger areas, my advice is to use as big a brush as you can. Thin you paints as normal and paint from one side to another to avoid running your brush over areas you’ve painted already and risking disturbing drying paint. It also results in smoother thinner layers without brush marks

I wish I could afford a nice setup but unfortunately you don't get much money while in uni :/ We (2 people) currently paint on a 120x60cm table which also serves at our dining table. The lasercut paint racks we bought definitely help with keeping most paints at the back of the table but after 1 or 2 painting sessions everything get’s everywhere again and we constantly have to put paint or minis out of the way when we want to eat xD Also simple wooden stools just don’t do it… At least we move soon so we have a dedicated hobby/work room so we don’t have to eat at the same desk anymore and the desk gets a bit larger too but everything else will stay the same for quite some time. Also, I love seeing the same idea I had with the Ikea Bookshelves as display shelves! Other glass cabinets are way too expensive and for the space you get with them I thought them ideal for this purpose and now I know that they work perfectly and I can confidently buy one of those shelves when we have the space and the number of minis painted for it :) Regarding your Golden Demon entry: did you use NMM or metallic paints? I’m still thinking of trying to push myself to paint a mini for the Golden Demon this year, even though I barely had the time to practise for the past half a year… just to get some feedback from pro’s and say that I at least tried (there’s no way I’ll even get a finalist pin, I think, but I imagine the feedback from other competitors would be great) But I never tried NMM before and I don’t know if I even would have any chance with metallic paints, which I doubt. Also, your entry looks intimidatingly good ^^

I have selected the Paid promotion button for this video because my links have affiliate codes in them, which means that if you click on one of the product links and make a purchase, I'll receive a tiny commission. I would love to see some videos (maybe Timelapse) with you doing voiceover talking about how you paint a mini from start to finish (you could do more than one, it’s very relaxing watching your content). Also, do you do this for a living?
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides12 күн бұрын
Thank you, great to hear you enjoy my videos and find them relaxing. I do have videos of me painting a model from beginning to end but not time lapse. More structured steps. I’m assuming you’re wanting a longer format video to really chill out to? I’ll see what I can do And no, I don’t paint or KZbin professionally, this is all just a hobby which has gotten out of hand 🤣

Are those sponsored links in the description? In other words, do you get a kickback?

Some of the links are affiliate links, yes. So the channel will get a small percentage if someone buys a product using those links. There’s no extra cost to the viewers though. Just enough to keep the lights on for the channel

Have you heard of the Lucent light from game envy? Or do you think that redgrass is the best in the field at the moment?
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides3 ай бұрын
yes, I do know the Lucent and it's a good lamp. However, as I understand it its CRI rating is only for a limited number of light spectrum colours (which is the standard CRI rating) the Redgrass lamp I believe is the only lamp to boast CRI of 90+ for all light spectrum colours. Most significantly the red frequency. Hence the lamp being called R9 which is the red frequency. More details here: www.redgrasscreative.com/lamp-for-miniature-painting/?ref=177

@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Quar is this new thing in Tabletop gaming world, made by Zombiesmith games and the plastic minis are available in Wargames Atlantic. Basically Quar are sentient anteaters that has been fighting a war against each other for 700 years. The lore is pretty rich and the Minis are cheaper compared to GW's.

So, maybe this is a rude question. But how much do you think you've spend on obtaining this Ultimate Painting studio? Just the items you discussed, not all the treasures you keep in there. Oh, by the way, it is a beautiful space.
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides3 ай бұрын
It’s a very fair question This upgrade has cost around the £1000 mark, that’s standing desk, lights and chair. The rest are things which I’ve accumulated over the years. It’s a lot to fork in one go, but i did a lot of research beforehand to make sure I picked things fit for purpose and will give me many years of loyal service 🙂

@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Thank you. I've got lots of friends with hobbies; (golfing, boating, hunting, bike riding etc. ) and your amount is a mere speck of what some of those things cost. I've been in the hobby for a several decades now, and I'm sure I've sunk a decent chunk into it. I've done it piecemeal throughout the years. Upgrading is a very attractive thought to me. More power to you, you do your homework and know what you are getting. For many of us, this hobby isn't merely a time passer, it's a genuine passion.

Wow, dream studio. I was wondering if you can do a video on layering, i know it might be simple but i cant grasp it. Do i cover the entire area? Do i only cover near the middle? Different ways etc. I would be so grateful. Keep up the epic work!

Love the way you walk through things and how you explain it all clearly. I was wondering how high the frame is with the lights added too? I have a standing desk but a small garden office so wondering if I’d hit the ceiling :D
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides3 ай бұрын
Thank you, glad you found it helpful. So I’ve quickly measured for you and front the top of the desk to the top of the light is 101cm. You could reduce that a bit by angling the lights a bit more but I think you should really allow for a 100cm. Hope that helps 👍

Thanks man I totally agree and I would love to be able to post more but unfortunately painting and this channel isn’t my day job. It’s just my hobby. So I fit in what I can in my spare time. That and the fact I try and make things as high quality as possible, rather than churning out things rushed for the sake of getting something out. Hope that explains my irregular release schedule a bit more Thanks for watching though, I appreciate it 👍

That's an awesome setup, thanks for showing! It's interesting to see what kind of kit different people use. Obviously, not everyone is going to have that amount of space available, but it's great to get ideas for future upgrades. If you had to choose one thing, im guessing a task light would be your pick? Think that might be my next investment.

Unfortunately it was a few years ago now that I bought mine and when I checked whilst making this video I wasn’t able to find the same lights. So I don’t think IKEA make them anymore. However, if you look for under cupboard led lights in their kitchen range you’ll find equivalent versions 👍

Great video. I'll be browsing through the shoping links next time I'm avoiding work. There's a lot of tempting, and probably expensive things there. Two things I'd recommend that you might not have thought of: 1: A cheap disposable waterproof tablecloth meant for parties. Put it over your painting desk and drips and spillages don't matter as much. Mine is filthy, but my desk under it isn't. 2: A large, cheap, thin doormat/rug. Put it under your chair (You want thin so you can roll on and off) and it'll catch any drips that happen, saving your floor. About the magnifying glasses. I was given a lamp with a lense in a while back, but I can't use it because it messes with my depth perception. I wonder if this is because it's not mounted to my head so the magnification changes as I move. Do you think it's still worth me grabbing a set of glasses, or should I expect the same problem? I'm not sure I need them, but I am curious for eyes etc. I don't know anyone with a set for me to test with.
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides3 ай бұрын
Thanks man Yeah, some lovely products for sure 👍 And thanks for the tips on protection for drips. I have a clear floor protector under my chair already (great minds) For the glasses, yes. Having them on your head is very different to the standing lens.i find them much more natural and your depth perception will adjust quickly Bret advice really, is just give them a try 👍

I don't like buying things and never using them so I've been avoiding it, but I'll check out the price on the ones you linked and consider it then. I do have some more detailed work to do on the horizon. Thanks.
