Unfortunately what is happening in Ireland and other European countries is a consequence of membership of the European Union which dictate that all countries in the union should take their share of migrants. Europe never had a policy to address this influx, it should have foreseen this but it as a bloc has done nothing, instead it became a problem for individual countries, this is a large part of the reason why Britain withdrew and Europe wouldn’t listen and on occasion laughed at Britain’s concerns, but by the time Britain got out, the problem was too far advanced and will be extremely difficult to deal with considering the election of a left of centre government full of Corbinites. Anyone who comes across the channel illegally in boats (and who may end up in Ireland as a consequence) is not a refugee, if they were, they would have claimed asylum in the first safe country they entered.

The UK made it difficult for the UK when it left the EU and then got upset because it was (a) treated as a non EU country; and (b) still bound by the terms of the Good Friday Agreement (re. Northern Ireland) which is an international agreement that the UK itself signed. It is not Ireland’s fault that the UK chose to leave the EU. Ireland had absolutely nothing to do with it …apart from the massive disruption and expense of having to re-route its entire national trading system to the new direct ferry routes with mainland EU. And it is not Ireland’s fault that no-one in the UK (apparently) considered the implications for the Good Friday Agreement of leaving. Ireland can’t just ditch international agreements because they’re inconvenient. It took a lot of delicate diplomacy, sacrifice and hard work to put that agreement together. There were ‘smelly’ bits for each party involved but all agreed it was for the greater good and everyone held their nose and signed. I don’t expect ordinary people in Britain to know the finer details but it’s a pity that individuals in the British Parliament who should have known better didn’t take the GFA into consideration beforehand, and have a plan. The plan, it seems, was ‘There is no plan’. That’s not Ireland’s fault!

My brother, there is an old woman who saved the life of my little sister. She is sixty years old. The government took her house because of taxes and put Muslim refugees in it. She now lives either in the church or on the street. We contacted her and she told us. So my father went to Ireland today to see her situation and get her a house. Shame on this government.😢
