Watching was both refreshing and relaxing rather than boring or sleep-inducing. What a unique train. Seeing the beauty of Japan from the train is exciting.

And a cable car trip in Aomori - that's really nice. Some notes on the Cassopeia: This train started out as a limited express service from July of 1999 to March 2016. Its original route is Tokyo Ueno to Sapporo on Hokkaido. The arrival of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, and the raising of the voltage through the Seikan Tunnel from 20 kV to 25 kV AC, meant that the electric locomotives that used to haul the Cassopeia train couldn't use it, and it was discontinued in March 2016. (Note: From Hakodate to Sapporo, its hauled by a pair of DD51 diesel-hydraulic locomotives). Not wanting to scrap the then 17 year old trainset, JR East decided to use them as a cruise train around the JR East system, still bearing the Cassopeia name (The Cassopeia trainset still goes to Hokkaido on seasonal runs, but in order to go through the Seikan Tunnel, JR East has to lease electric locomotives from JR Freight, which are capable of operating at 25 kV AC).

Why play Bach, he asked, and the reason is the abundance. It is written: PSALM 92: 1 "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: 2 To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, 3 Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound."

What a lovely record of your travel experience! It brings back my own fond memories of traveling three nights by train from Chicago (the capital of America's Midwest region) to California. My dad wanted to try it instead of a plane just once, on one of our frequent visits to my sister in California. It was about 15 years ago. We booked a sleeper car for two on the Amtrak train (which is the only company we could choose in America, since our obsession with automobiles has dismantled our national train system). The setup in our cabin was similar to yours, with the two seats facing each other by day and converting to a bed at night. But unlike your train, our cabin had a fold-down bunk bed for the second person! To ensure it was safely set up and taken down, the staff set up the beds (with the sheets and blankets on them) each time. I loved bunk beds back then, so I was really excited to sleep up there! Our train car had communal bathrooms instead of private ones. It also had comfortable train seats, better than on a local train, for riders traveling shorter distances. I'm amazed people could sleep in them, though. On another car were large cabins for up to four travelers (families) at a time, which each had their own private bathroom. In the dining car, we befriended an older man traveling alone in one of those big cabins! He gave us a tour, and it was interesting to see the differences from our smaller cabin. We had a delightful porter take care of everyone in our train car. He was a lot of fun to talk to. He heard my dad call me "Number 4," because I'm his 4th child and he often mistakenly calls me by one of my older sisters' names 😅 The porter laughed uproariously; he thought my dad was hilarious. After that, every time he saw me he made a "4" sign on his chest and said, "Number 4!"

This is lovely but seemed very overpriced. Aside from the food, I couldn’t see much difference between this train and the private deluxe cabins on the standard overnight train (which are a tenth of the cost). Some of the other Japanese private 7* trains with similar pricing seem in a totally different league. Still a lovely experience ❤

You said it in a very nice way. After seeing this.. i would go that far to call it greedy. It seems that the owners just still trying to take advantage of a once modern and up class train. Milking it out with not putting any efforts to raise the standards by updating and renovating it in a proper way.. But still expecting to be paid as if its the best of the best. No thx ^^

I think they justify it with the private toilet and that it's such a high demand, but I agree that it's overpriced anyway. I'm curious of what that fancy room at the back would cost and what is included.

Lovely video, many aspects of the trip I would love. The quiet and the views from the windows, for example. But one tiny bottle included in a price and a breakfast you need to pay for sounds extreme. I am not sure if this would be worth paying that much.

I would love to live in a place where I could travel by train! That looked like such a relaxing trip. And did you get a new camera? The scenery views were so sharp and gorgeous!
