Traveling Across Ecuador During National Emergency

This video was shot during the state of emergency during January of 2024. I travelled from Northern Ecuador near the Colombian border to the southern mountains of Ecuador. I began at Rio Intag and passed through Otavalo, Quito, and Ambato before finally arriving in Banos de Agua Santa. My feet are on the ground in Ecuador. I have been here since a few days after the state of emergency was declared to fight the cartels and gangs. In my informed opinion with knowledge of Ecuador's geography and trouble spots travel to locations of interest to most tourists is still safe. If you choose to travel along the coast you should be aware of potential trouble spots and and take appropriate caution.
ABOUT ME
I primarily travel solo but you don't have to to enjoy this channel. Working as a river guide during summers in North America I don't earn a lot of money and live close to the federal poverty level. In spite of this I live a rich life on a frugal budget. Glad it was helpful! I am constantly learning new tricks and tips from my friends. I now know of couple companies offering very limited direct routes between Otavalo and Banos. The hours of some of these trips are not real convenient.

I took a bus from Quitumbe to Tena for some white water rafting on the Napo River. The company was River People and they were great. It's owned by an Irish gentleman who moved there with his parents as a kid.

There are many Ecuadorian owned outfitters that are very good too. I am not a fan of foreign owned outfitters.
