Amazing. I am not Gypsy myself, but I have had many Gypsy friends. It is an amazing culture I wish I could be around more. I was saddend to see all the racist comments on alot of the gypsy videos I have watched here on KZbin. Especially considering most of them come from people that sold their culture for green paper. Gypsies kept their culture, and their gold.

Thank you for sharing this brother! My mother is sinti gipsy from Northern Italy and france. My father is a gadžo. My family came here very similar to you, and even when they lived in italy, they had to change their names to not be persecuted. I'd love to learn more about fellow gypsies in the US. So are you guys mostly kalderaš from The balkan regions that migrated or from a different tribe? I'd love to make some connections with some more of my people in my area, bc many unfortunately passed away, and we are some of the last around where im from. I was very open-minded till I encountered a couple of roma gypsies who I thought were stranded on highway desperate for help. I got ripped big money. I found a facebook group full of people getting scammed & robbed the same way I got scammed. I'm half black myself. Now tell me if I am a racist.

There are scammers and con artists in every ethnic and racial group. So to generalize and say that all Roma people are scammers is wrong. The people you encountered were Roma from Turkey. Around 2 years ago I also was flagged down by some guys in some designer clothes and pointy shoes, claiming that their car broke down and they needed money for their trip back to Chicago. I didn’t fall for it.

In about 8th grade, a small group of Gypsy kids were transferred to my school. They were very violent and terrorized everybody, even the teachers who kept them at arms length. They mainly hung out at the smoking wall, and drank and smoked and beat the crap out of less tough kids, like me. They were led by Julian. He was the meanest and the alpha dog in the group....but he was always willing to share a beer with us kids. Now, I often wonder what became of Julian, I figure he is probably a King now, being ferried around in Portland in a limo with bodyguards.
