As a person from a place that people are often warned not to go to because “it is so dangerous” I appreciated hearing you say that the the best advice you can get is from people who live in those places or who have gone. You will almost always get a more nuanced perspective. Often a small area of that is dangerous or something that happened years ago can give an entire place a bad rep. So glad you all had a great experience!
@titacake42842 жыл бұрын
As someone living in Mexico, the bad stuff that you see in the news is true, but it's not the whole picture. I want Mexico to be safe entirely so we don't worry about not going to places and I'm doing my part as a citizen, but for now, talk and listen to the locals and travelers, usually places are chill, but don't just assume they are.
@dan_slinger2 жыл бұрын
Most of the people who call Mexico more dangerous than anywhere else likely haven't been there. I also think some of the negative perspectives about Mexico in particular are rooted in systemic racism. There is inherent danger almost anywhere but so many of these places have nice people, rich cultures, and so much to see and learn from. There are also definitely things you can do to manage risks and I'm glad to see you aren't limiting yourselves and showing how great these places can be to your audience!

Love being on this journey with you. It’s totally true that you should be careful when you travel, but many times these perceived “dangers” are overblown and driven by stereotypes rather than reality. Of course, we shouldn’t be idiots, but bad things and accidents happen everywhere.
@LeahandLevi2 жыл бұрын
Completely agree! Thanks for being here and leaving a comment! 🙏🏻❤️
@BetaBetaZZ2 жыл бұрын
That depends, “Everywhere” is not the same and there’s truly very dangerous towns that are not great for locals and specially for tourists. I do agree that sometimes there’s lots of stereotypes that are not actually a reality. However let me tell you as someone that used to lives in one of the most “dangerous” places in Mexico it’s horrible dangerous. I actually move out to a smaller town as things where getting out of control. Maybe because we’re lower class and for us is more dangerous as we can’t pay for gate neighborhoods as other citizens can. We had neighbors getting kill outside our house not only one time, but several times. We had people coming over to our house and try to take things away. We had family members getting kill driving to their houses. We had female family members and friends who got kidnapped and till this day we can’t find. Maybe for tourist they can pay for a safer place or maybe cartel does not mess around with them because they know they’re tourist and their money is important for their own business. (Lots of cartel own business) At the end of the day we Mexicans have deal with so much stuff happening to us that we live our daily lives as we’re “Safe” but we’re just used to it and we have no other options. However Aguascalientes has always been super safe town. As my grandmother said “Hay que salirle a los chingasos, no nos queda de otra” I’m happy and glad Levi & Leah are enjoying their time up here and all it’s safe. I really hope it continues that way. Also OMG they must have some really good spirit guides helping them out.

I guess it's worth keeping in mind that you guys are together, have a car, and speak some spanish, which makes the trip safer. I'm currently visiting India for the 2nd time, and I enjoy it but that doesn't mean that I will walk alone at night or take a cab on my own, and I am quite alert when out and about - which I basically never worry about in Europe. Similarly if you were staying in remote locations without your own transport, your risks would increase imo. Doesn't mean you shouldn't travel, just that you need to understand that the environment is a little different.
@leahtidey80052 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! And we had similar experiences when we traveled through India. Just make sure you're aware, travel together, and as much as possible listen to your gut and local advice about where to go and where to avoid!

It's not about local crime and gunfire. You're being naive, and that's okay - you don't know what you don't know. The danger is that if you get into trouble with lawmakers there, the police are corrupt and run by drug lords. That's the danger. Being able to speak Spanish is definitely a plus.

Much love from LA, it’s been three years since I went to Mexico. My family is from Zacatecas, my families hometown is nochistlan, even family which moved to Guadalajara have said it’s not safe. It’s still really beautiful just not recommended to be out and about at night. Some places that are really beautiful are tapalpa,jal. and a popular spot is San Miguel de Allende if you pass by Guanajuato. I know a lot of people go to tequila for obv reasons but Tequila, jal was really sus the last time I went. My family went in three cars, but we were followed by ppl in motorbikes by the pueblito. Don’t mean to scare you guys but be safe out there guys

Great content. It bears mentioning that “dangerous” is relative. It may be more dangerous than the safest resort town but that doesn’t mean that it is “dangerous” in absolute terms. I say treat it like visiting Manhattan. Enjoy yourself, be careful, keep your eyes and ears open but dive in and enjoy the experience. Mexico is a beautiful place and Mexicans are amazing people.

15:35 "The roads are better maintained in the toll roads..." I hate to break it to you buddy, but, the free road (libre) in the Mazatlan-Durango is very well maintained... The difference is that the toll road is a wider and has less curves, but the asphalt itself is about the same quality.
@melovil2 жыл бұрын
I think it's also important to consider that "dangerous" as defined by people of certain privileges. When I lived in San Diego, I went over to Tijuana often because it was 30 minutes away. Some always commented about danger and I'm like - you really have never left your suburb or middle of nowhere time. When you're in a proper city and neighborhoods that are built within smaller circumferences, there's just going to be more chances of "danger" or rather, risk of incident, but it doesn't necessarily make it ACTUALLY dangerous. Love that y'all are opening these dialogues as you experience them yourselves :)

I've been following your trip and it looks amazing! Having traveled a lot and to places deemed "unsafe" my best advice is to trust your instincts. If your "spidey sense" goes off, get out of there. We're survived as a species based on our instincts. On the flip side, it's also allowed me to have amazing experiences like going to a party hosted by the Sandinistas in Nicaragua by going with the flow.
@LeahandLevi2 жыл бұрын

He thought it was stupid but to this day, I think we got out of a situation before it could start. Nothing else we had a good story from it. Ha!

Interesting hearing Mennonites went to Mexico, there’s also Mormon communities that went to Mexico around that same time. (US Senator Mitt Romney’s grandparents went to Mexico, and his father George was born there, but in an interesting quirk of US law, his father was okay to run for US President since the limitation of being a “natural born” American really just means if your mother was a citizen, not where you were born. (Which really made that whole “birther” thing against Obama particularly stupid since his mother was an American.))

Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!
