I have been to Arizona. Scottsdale, Phoenix, Sedona, Tuson and the Grand Canyon. There's not an aperture large enough to capture the Grand Canyon. The lack of clouds turns the Arizona night sky into a planetarium. The history and stunning countryside is impressive. I remember every western film 🎥 I've ever seen. I wish I would have rode the Grand Canyon railway 🛤. Thanks for recapturing the memories. Everyone of your videos are inspiring ✨️ 🙌 ❤️

I agree, the camera does not do the Grand Canyon justice. You really have to be there in person to capture the feeling of absolute grandeur! Definitely one of my top 3 parks!

The desert takes some getting use to, but it has its charm. Im just outside of Reno, NV . At 5.,000 feet but use to Lake Tahoe and more water.❤

Robert - I watched this video with my wife. When you talked about the parking spot you got in Winslow, we both burst out laughing! We did a cross country trip from our home in Port Saint Lucie, FL in spring 2023 and parked in the EXACT SAME SPOT!!! We also stopped at Meteor Crater and actually spent a night at Twin Arrows. You know at first, I thought why use the name “ Pelicamp West”. ..perhaps use “ Coyote Camp” as its planned to be in the desert southwest. But! Pelicans are very much present in Arizona in the Sept-Oct months on temporary “ camps “ along rivers and streams during their migratory journey south for the winter! Hey, this sounds familiar. A Snowbird of a different feather.

If you get to see the Grand Canyon, be sure to take the trip up onto the Kaibab Plateau to visit the North Rim. The South Rim is stunning; the North Rim is breathtaking.

Just want to add my congrats to you and Illy grabbing a piece of the west for yourselves. You seem to have found a very centrally located spot. And you can now explore all the ghost towns and very intriguing border towns of Nevada, Utah and Arizona in-depth, which will give you at least another 5 years of excellent videos to look forward to. Cerro Gordo,, Wendover and West Wendover (home to the airfield which saw the takeoff of the Enola Gay on her mission to Japan), and many many other ideal locations for your exploration. Looking forward to your future adventures!

I think the property has a lot of potential. You can plant trees and shrubs and the biggest plus is city water, because down in the desert water can be a problem. I like the vibe of that area in comparison to the other places you looked at. Love the Mts and it is in a quiet location on a hill and not in the valley. Looks to be a good find!

I worked in Arizona loading trucks with boxes of lettuce ! I loved southwestern AZ Parker Yuma, winter dosent come to this area and not far from my favorite place on earth San Diego

Congratulations on selecting a place for Pelicamp West! It seemed you had your heart set on the Kingman area already, which is probably the better choice. The Show Low/Springerville area is beautiful, but as you said, the rutted roads show the dirt roads would probably be impassable in wet weather. The ruts tell the story. That's the same mudstone as what's exposed at Petrified Forest NP. Slippery when wet from Monsoon Season rains! 😉 Looking forward to seeing your development of your new Pelicamp! Your video inspires me to return once again. First visited nearly 50 years ago, last visited with my daughter in 2017 by train from Williams. Yes, we did get reservations at El Tovar and worth the effort. We got to see the Hopi girls perform and a wonderful exhibition of the hoop dance at the stage in front of the Hopi House. Winslow: the restaurant across from the truck is pretty darn good! For folks with big rigs, park at the visitors center a few blocks west. Stop in for some neat history, and then walk down to the corner. That downtown area is a bunch of 1 way streets, so be aware.

Great view of the Canyon, a huge crake on Earth, just wonder how was 10 million years ago, what's it fill with water ? We sure visited it from Las Vegas, stayed in the Trump hotel & hop in a small plane visited the glass walk, the Indians own the park. Can't remember what was the name of the place. Robert, I've watched the video of the last time you were in that area a few times. And was pretty amazed when you took the detour off of I-40 . Why was I amazed? well that's because I did the exact same thing about 15 years ago, on that exact same road, after stopping at that same place near the old KOA, and kept going down the road, just like you did. Luckily I was not pulling an RV because I don't know if I could have gotten out of there like you did. That was some clever driving on your part! So to see you do the same thing was pretty funny. When I first watched you start down that road, I was yelling out loud, "nooooo, turn around"

Ah, the Wigwam Hotel...I can't tell you how many times I've tried to stay there...they've always booked up. (I have spent the night at the Wigwam in San Bernadino though -- it doesn't have quite the cachet as the one in Holbrook, but it is very well maintained and has a nice pool) The window in the brick wall at Meteor Crater, what a great idea that was! So simple but with such a big payoff looking out towards the SF peaks. At Two Guns. I got a chuckle seeing your previous "adventure" there...not so fun at the time, but you lived to tell the tale, eh? It's been years since I visited Bedrock, very cool to see it again. Looks like the Pterodactyl "flying" over the volcano is gone, but the photo stand-ins for the goats are hilarious!
