Robert, I went to Alaska in May 1987, and we drove by the Mantanuska Glacier en route from Valdez to Anchorage. I am so sad, but not surprised, by how much the glacier has shrunk in height & depth over the past 40 years. When I saw it, it was "flowing" up among the peaks. Nontheless, your video was stunning. Thank you for taking us along.

I’ve watched the glacier shrink in depth over the years (downwaisting) but it is one of the few glaciers in Alaska not rapidly receding.

I feel so bad for you Robert. You had to endure such icy conditions on that hike. The dangers of pitfalls. I can’t believe the horrible conditions. Plus you had to wear a helmet that did not look like it kept your head warm. You had to look at drab grey and blue colors. You had to drink cold pure water instead of warm water. The noisy crunches every time you took a step. Heck you could not enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The tragedy of it all. Thanks for taking one for the team. I guess someone had to. 😂 In all seriousness that had to be epic. Super jealous. One day I will get back there to get to walk on a glacier. So happy to got to do it. 😊

Love the video, Robert! It was a pleasure taking you out on the glacier that day. Thanks for joining us! In this video, you really give us an idea of what it's like to be on Matanuska Glacier. Even though I am out there several times a week, I never get tired of the experience and leading others to discover the joy and excitement of walking ON glacial ice.

Driven past Matanuska Glacier 100+ times and always stopped at a pull off along the Glenn Hwy to admire the view. I’m driving to Alaska next summer and thought about taking the tour….until I saw the $350 price tag….yikes! There are far less expensive alternatives with other companies but one I looked at said “ages 9-70”. I’m 74 and in far better shape than most people half my age. This old geezer hikes or walks at least six miles per day and just hiked 54 miles during a five day stay in Yosemite!😂

Unrelated to this video, but I have noticed on a couple of past videos, when traveling through Georgia, you’ve stopped for sausage at SL sausage company near Cordele. Just FYI, they’ve opened another location in Macon. It’s probably less than a mile off of I-475 exit 9 (Zebulon Rd.) Figured it would be less out of the way for you, if heading north through Mid-Ga.

Walking on a glacier...how cool (ha ha) is that? It has to be one of the absolute highlights of the trip. What an other-worldly experience! Those creaking sounds as you're walking along are a little ominous--almost like the ice is cracking under your feet. I've walked on a glacier once, but it was about 2000 miles south of there in Great Basin National Park--a very different experience to be sure. Looking forward to the next chapter in the Alaskan adventure...until then, happy trails!
