Every week I react with Wow! This was fantastic! I never thought walking on a glacier would be a big deal, but actually seeing the details and formations was amazing. I would definitely do that. Carrie, your short hike had such a beautiful view. Thank you, thank you for sharing this with us. I think if I went, I would need a 5 gallon jug of mosquito repellant and a full body net!

hi guys! still watching...but had to stop and say i loved the shot (around 11:30) that pans from right to left showing the glacier and groups of hikers in different areas and showing the foreground, middle, background of the ice, the glacier, the mountains, the water and green. Love it!!! love the music in this shot too...what is it? great jumping back in this comment...ya had me chuckling with "we don't want to see any bears" song. GORGEOUS views of the mountains AND the Birch Trees on the path with roodle!!!! ( i think they are birch trees...sooo beautiful)

So special to be able to explore a glacier. I wonder how old the ice is? Thanks for taking us along.

The lawn darts look like big turnips 😄. But how do you keep Roodle from thinking you're throwing them for him 🤣?? The boy's glacier hike was awesome. Thanks for taking us along!! I'm glad Carrie and Roodle got out on their own hike too. That one mountain view was gorgeous. You've shamed me for complaining about the summer bugs here in central Illinois. I've had some bad mosquito and chiggers bites but never had to deal with a swarm. Yikes!! Carrie, I like your head net. I've not seen one like that. I've wondered about Roodle and so glad for him that he's not having bad issues with the skeeters. 👍 Thanks guys!! See you next time!! 🥰🌿♥️

I just discovered your channel and I'm working my way through videos of places I want to visit when I get my camper (looking for the right one). A couple years ago we took our grandson to Alaska and he still says the Matanuska Glacier hike was his favorite part of the trip. It was awesome!

Welcome! Dave loved that hike as well! Last year our mission was to see icebergs in Newfoundland and this year it seems to be glaciers 😃

"No more show-and-tell." LOL! I can't blame you one bit, Carrie. I absolutely HATE mosquitoes. They are the bane of our existence, for sure....

Yes! Mosquitos suck! Literally! Overall we have only had a handful of days where we had mosquitos....it feels like it has been a non-mosquito year! If not, our timing has just been good!

We were there at the end of June in the Glacier View campgrnd, we did not walked on the glacier but walked on that trail. It is very scary to do that walk on ice. Also in Valdez we took the Stan Stephen cruise on 7/1 to see the glaciers up close. It is another world Guys !

I live just west of the glacier at Sutton, Alaska. Don't forget to go to the muskox ranch and the Williams Raindeer ranch in Palmer.

Mosquitoes 🦟🤦🏼 such annoying creatures. I told my wife it’s going to be crazy and we will wear nets on our heads. She thinks I’m joking 😂. Anyhow, I think I want to take a hike on a glacier too. Looks neat. It’s on the list 👍🏼

Living so many years in Juneau, did a lot of walking on the Mendenhall glacier. I was asked once what glacier water tastes like, my reply was it tastes like really good water with just a hint of mastodon.

Glacier moss? While I was watching I was thinking of Minnesota winters and how the snow was lovely when falling or freshly fallen - but then time put a dusting of dirt/soot on top. That’s what I thought I was seeing as you walked. Now I’m wondering what was really on those winter snows.

We call that dirty snow "SNIRT" (snow+dirt)

Lovely...wasn't that ice amazing...so thick...a collection of the snow from tens of thousands of snow storms. Here's a few tips that might help: 1) Get Citronella oil in a dropper bottle, and apply a few drops to multiple pieces of paper towels or small pieces of cloth; affix to nearby surfaces near where you sit/relax, etc. The vapors will pervade the area near the paper towels/pieces of cloth. If you smell the citronella in the air about you, you'll have some relief. You can get a pump aerosolizer bottle and spray the citronell on your clothing, or the paper towel/cloth pieces. 2) 16% DEET on your clothing, your skin will help keep mosquitoes from finding you. (higher concentrations of DEET aren't more effective). The mosquitoe's antennae are loaded with sensors that detect CO2 gas and water vapor you exhale. DEET acts as an anesthetic; so the mosquitoes will fly about/near you, but they won't be able to "find" you because the closer they fly near you, the escaping DEET vapors will anesthetize their antennae 3) Picaridin also works, but not as well as DEET or citronella. Cedar wood oil also works. Firewood smoke also works, but it burns your eyes and most folks find that unpleasant. 4) some folks use electrictronic tennis racquet bug zappers, but you'll probably be swatting those things all the time. Good luck, and thanks for another beautiful video. Whenever I show your videos to friends, they all say the same thing: "Wow, beautiful" or "what a professional video" etc., Thanks for everything you do!

We have been very fortunate on the mosquito front. We have only had a handful of days where we had to deal with them.... light year, I guess! We have all the above-mentioned mosquito paraphernalia but have only used a few of the items on a few occasions.

We've been enjoying your travel videos for a couple years, including your current trip in Alaska. What screen room/house do you have? What size? Does it keep out the bugs (especially mosquitoes)? Easy to put up and take down and store in a van? Would you recommend it? I looked at your Amazon store, but didn't see a screen room/house. Thanks!
@oneadVANtureatatime2 ай бұрын
This is a clam screen tent. It works great for keeping the bugs out! It is easy to set up and take down once you get the hang of it and it is fairly small so I would say it is van friendly. It is a bit long... They come in multiple sizes.... I think this is the smallest and although crowed, we did get 5 people and a dog in it.
