Solgaard Lifepack Endeavor (with Closet) Review - Expandable One Bag Travel System

Bought this bag from Costco and returned it within two month. One side of the sternum strapped fell out (happened on multiple occasions). When the zippers for the laptop compartment were closed in the top position, they would come undone while walking when the main compartment was even moderately packed out. I charged this to them not being YKK zippers as they didn't seem to have the interlocking strength that YKK is known for. Lastly, when I reached out to Solgaard to have them replace the sternum strap (based on faulty design), they told me they only warranty the bag if purchased from them. They didn't consider Costco a reputable reseller which was jaw-dropping to me. In short, I would never buy another product from them. Couldn't rely on the product OR the warranty.

Solgaard, if you’re reading, step up your game. This just turned me off the bag. Surely Costco got the bags from you? Even if not, seems like a silly policy.

Lots of thoughts about this bag. First off, cons. With all of that default space the lack of a top slash pouch like we see on so many bags nowadays, seems odd. Doesn't have to be a big one either, Aer and Bellroy have that basically perfected. The elastics seem a bit lacking, missing in some areas (like slip pockets in the tech compartment) and not as tight when present. Bottom of the water bottle pouches probably need a bit more room for expansion and the tops need to clamp down a bit harder. I think that tech compartment could benefit from a Bellroy Transit style top tech pouch that would sit above the laptop and sit against the main compartment wall; a laptop power supply that isn't Apple's would be harder to store and access with the existing layout. Very odd place for the key ring, too. I think I'd like the handles to be a bit tigher to the bag, and for something that expands out like that I'm surprised at the absense of load lifters (I love them personally). Pros! Holy smokes this bag checks so many boxes for me. The handles, plus two water pouches, plus separate laptop compartment, plus a couple external pouches... I can't quite tell how supportive the back panel is but I've come to love the dual or quad large padds w/ big ol channels in between for air / luggage strap. That small bottom external pouch is an awesome idea for a bike light and pack cover or lightweight rain jacket; it would be neat to see a drain hole there. Back pouch big enough for the things I usually stuff there, namely a pair of gloves and a boo-boo kit, with room for snacks. The many smaller pouches like the back panel ones or main compartment ones are great to me because they are unobtrusive and waste no real space while being there if you think of a use for them. Overall a 9/10 for me. This would definitely be fighting for one of the top picks for me for an EDC bag. Thank you for sharing this with us Danny!

Both are solid options overall, I would say the build quality on the peak design is far superior (but it’s also heavier) and the peak design feels like it can hold a bit more. Beyond that the Solgaard does have more organization (and it’s more intuitively laid out imo). Between the two I might lean towards the peak design as it feels like it would last longer, but if I wanted something I was going to use regularly for day to day vs mostly for travel I feel like the size and layout of the Solgaard would be more my style

When the bag is expanded, doesn’t it become too deep for carry-on requirements? I really want to support a company that uses recycled materials, but the bag needs to be carry-on compliant for me to consider it dual-purpose EDC and travel. Great review, though. Love the review it’s awesome! But just saying it would be great if more people would stop putting backpacks in overhead compartments as those are meant for suitcases and duffel bags. Sincerely a seasoned traveler who can never fit my suitcase up there because of backpacks and duty free stuff 😢

As I now own a large Lifepack Endeavor, I can definitively agree with the Channel's response to my original inquiry- he reviewed the medium. The large is longer and a little wider. Fits my 17" laptop fine in it.

The term is often associated with the items you might have in your pockets like a wallet or pocket knife, but has been used in the backpack category as well since so many people use a backpack everyday

Thank you for watching! It will depend on how you pack / the type of clothes you take, but for me I’ve been able to travel with just a bag like this without my clothes getting super wrinkled (rolling my clothes, using compression cubes and travel focused fabrics has also helped with wrinkles)

Sounds fishy to me. There are too many questions about the materials, components and quality to justify the price. I applaud companies going for sustainability, but the quality still needs to justify the price. There are certified B corps like Cotopaxi and Tom Bihn just off the top of my head. Pakt and Topo Designs also are committed to sustainable goods. I think Tropicfeel even has one with that fits their built in closet too.
