After having a few diesel HD trucks I decided in 2019 to try a new 2020 GMC 1500 Sierra with the LM2 3.0 (277hp/460 lb-ft). It did great and a few months ago I went with a 2024 Chevrolet 1500 with the LZO 3.0 (305hp/495 lb-ft). The fuel mileage is the main reason I went with these trucks and they haven't disappointed. I will say that I really liked the extra power of my HD trucks but I really didn't need it anymore and the fuel mileage is so much better with the 3.0. I do wish they would've put a larger fuel tank (24 gal) in the trucks. With that said if I was pulling heavy loads a lot I would've probably stayed with the HD trucks, they just haul the heavy loads(over 7500pds) so much better.

@jloutz24 күн бұрын
I looked at the 3.0 when shopping for my RST. I always wanted a GM oil burner, but I don't care about the cost of gas, and didn't want to deal with adding the DEF, etc. I ended up with the 5.3 V8 and it's good. Also, the sound of this guys truck at 2:55 isn't great.
@dopeboyp348717 күн бұрын
@@jloutzif you don’t tow much, or in my case don’t tow at all, DEF is a non issue. I add a 2.5 gal jug about every 4K miles, and at most it’s around $22. I just discover Walmart carries Super Tech DEF for only $8.88, and it’s also 2.5 gal. Not a big deal at all. The 5.3 is a solid Powertrain for sure, but the 3.0 is better IMO. You have a few more horses than I do, but my TQ and fuel efficiency is superior in every way. I also think the 3.0 sounds great, but then again, that’s subjective. I appreciate your comment.

Nice truck! I have a 2024 GMC Sierra Denali, just over a year old and the navigation still works. I think it goes for 3 years as the Supercruise. I also love the Supercruise, a lot less stress on long high speed traveling. I travelled from Ontario Canada to Tennessee, 80 mph on most of the interstate and i averaged 31.8 mpg! Blew me away! lol DEF tank was full when I bought it and was still just above empty at 10,000 miles! I pull a 23' V nose enclosed trailer on short trips (《500 mi) and havent found a huge jump in def usage. Engine oil usage, about the same as V8s I've had, never have to add. Normally about half or a third of the way above add at oil change. LOVE my Truck!

It is a live Google mapping system, so it requires data to update as you drive for things like road construction, etc. If you don't want to buy a data plan, then buy a Garmin and have your dedicated navigation. At least you are not having to pay to use the factory remote start ( Toyota) or heated seats (Mercedes).

It would be cool if gm offered the power bed like Ford does. Power goes off after a storm, and the truck can power the entire house. However, I guess that's just another possible failure point, too. I think it's cool to be able to power whatever you need to on the fly from the bed of your truck.

Great review and fully agree with you on navigation. Forget Google $25/mo which appears cellular based anyway. Use Carplay/Android Auto for "free" and when out of cellular range have a freestanding GPS unit as backup. One thing I really wish is that they made that $800 Max Trailering Package standard as trying to find inventory in the top two trim packages - Chevy or GMC (not available even to order in Denali - so High Country it is!) with a 500 mile search, there are only one or two in the entire State. While 8000 lbs may be sufficient and don't NEED 13000 lb capability, it has greater load capacity that trailer tongue weight subtracts from plus slightly stronger springs minimizing squat. But more important, you lose the 3.24 rear end for a 3.71 that improves performance off the line, and surprisingly, reports are coming back of equal to or better fuel performance which would not expect with the higher ratio. Apparently, the shift points are adjusted in the transmission software which offset the theoretical fuel penalty of a 3.71 vs the 3.24.

Hey Tall. Just some hints on the Google Nav. If you start your trip in service and loose service… it will complete the trip regardless. Now getting back may be a different story if you don’t have service when you start a trip. But then you can also download regions where it will also work with no service. I drive Uber in the N. GA mountains and those two tricks have been life savers.

SuperCruise WILL work when pulling a trailer but you have to go through the process of "setting up" the trailer (adding a profile for the trailer that includes the length etc. so the computer can figure out how long the trailer is and how much total length of open space is required in order to change lanes). Its some work upfront, but once you do it, its saved and you dont have to add it again (once and done) for each trailer you have.

I almost bought one myself. I went with a mid sized truck for my needs. I love the idea of a baby diesel though. Man the DEF systems are such a many scam from the EPA. It adds more maintenance, costs, and kills mpg you could have with if it wasn't installed. The chemicals in DEF, manufacturing of it, manufacturing of the bottles for them, all pollution adding things. These modern diesels would be better trucks without it. I really do think those 3.0L are sweet trucks!

Yea, I like that super cruise feature. Ford tech isn't as good yet. I would believe GM is slowly implementing the things they developed for GM Defense/ presidential Motorcade into theor customer vehicles. Super cruise seems like a feature of the BEAST for the president, but likely to a lesser extent. Ford screens are huge. I saw the screen in their Expedition and it is like an iPad Pro. Which is cool. I think gm should do similar for their trucks. Big screens are always a plus.
