In this episode, we take a number of Flixbus (Kamil Coc) buses throughout Turkey as we roadtrip from Canakkale to Izmir, and on to Pamukkale, experiencing beautiful countryside and sunsets along the way. Whilst this video focuses on the reality of budget travel, we make sure to explore each town we stay in, and we find the best way to do that is through eating local & traditional food, and coffee of course!
This episode was filmed in January/February 2024.

Howdy Matt and Caitlin, Glad you guys lads are enjoying Turkey. In case it helps, 1) I believe the dinner you both ordered in Izmir is a packet, which is quite normal and usually comes with a few maze, some salad, and drinks, sometimes with potato chips. And price is typically included in the stated price. Bread is free in Turkey. The price you paid is very reasonable. 2) In Turkey, there is a unique transport called Dolmuş, a kind of minibus that functions as some hybrid of public buses and taxis. There are routes, like buses, but you can take on/off anywhere along the route, and hence there is no stops for Dolmuş. The bus you took from Denizli to Pamukkale is probably that kind of system. They are available in big cities as well as small towns. Unfortunately, for new comers, and especially somehow who does not speak Turkish, the route and price (a bit expensive than normal bus fares) is hard to figure out. You can ask around locals and hotel stuff usually have some knowledge about it.

Wow thankyou so much for the information, that certainly helps! Glad to know they we paid a good price for the dinner and that they didn’t take advantage of us by being “tourists”. We were so confused at the time but somehow we managed and it worked out well in the end. It was certainly an experience we will never forget haha ☺️ everything you described about the Dolmus makes perfect sense now.

I like your local guide to the bus station 😅🤣 The white stuff you spread on your bread looks like Kaymak, the Turkish version of the English clotted cream. One of my fav food in Turkiye and it goes with Turkish honey. ☺️

"" Chicken Curry "" 😂 Chicken Stew - if that's a Turkish meal, which looks like, it's a hearty chicken stew just chicken and potatoe, probably carrot and onion as well. No curry, no chilli, no spices. There was no spice in that lamb 😊 You put it after 😊

@@TheRoamingPickels 😊 Probably, you're still learning and also unknowingly prejudiced (without realising). Turkiye have different regions and most regions do not use spices espcially as in making curry. Turkiye mainly uses herbs; parsley, dill etc. South East of Turkiye uses spices, and even them nothing like curry spices but mainly black pepper , and most of the time they don't add the chilli but given on the side fresh chilli pepper or dried powdered. All the best! Good Luck!

Nice Vlog and welcome in Izmir ;) try the other Bus Companys they are much better than Kamil Koc and not much more expensive . Try at long distances to checked the Planes because they are also very cheap , Sun Expres and Pegasus etc..
