Travelling with pen and paper... my 2024 set up.

I am heading back out on tour for a few months, so I have made a little video outlining what I will be touring with and why.

As a lab scientist, I wanted to let you know that the “Monteverde Ink Capsule” is just a standard footed 50 ml centrifuge tube plus printing. Most 50 ml centrifuge tubes are conical on the bottom, I.e. not self-standing, and they are used by the case full in thousands of labs. (There are lots of options for tube holders too.) But I also used this footed kind for storage of solutions that would not be centrifuged because they can stand on their own. They’re quite robust, are non-reactive, and they don’t leak, otherwise they would not be reliable in a lab. I checked online just now at the US shopping site named after a South American river, and I found similarly shaped capped 50 ml tubes. In one listing they are called “50ml Centrifuge Tubes Self-Standing” and cost less than 20 dollars for 25, and in another listing, “Skirted Conical Centrifuge Tubes 50mL” for even less. More choices are listed, sterile or not. There are also tube holders. My only caution for someone planning to store fountain pen ink in these tubes is to protect the ink-filled tubes from light. That can degrade ink.

Mick L,wishing you the best tour ever and happiness along the way. My last road trip I carried a Lamy 2000 with Writer's Blood(of which I ran out the second week of the trip.),a Pilot Varsity and a Field Notes pad. I've since acquired a passport-size Travelers Notebook in Navy,which looks to me,like a blue/black ink color with some sheen. I did manage to find a little stationary shop in a small town and bought a 30ml bottle of Herbin Bleu Nuit,an ink I rarely hear mentioned anywhere. Great ink from Herbin,I recently got a 100ml bottle of the same ink I found on sale. The color reminds me of that travel experience. Thanks for the video!

My only real suggestion is the "Uni Jetstream 4&1 Metal Multipen". It's like the multi-colored pen that your teacher used in high school but up to modern Japanese stationary standards. The Jetstream line has long been my favorite ballpoint refill because it's low viscosity but still oil based and fast drying, so you get the smoothness of a rollerball with the permanence and performance of a ballpoint. You get black, blue, green, and red ballpoints as well as a mechanical pencil. There's even an eraser under a little metal screw cap on the back. It would let you drop multiple other pens and even color code your bullet journal. Highly, highly recommend.

Well chosen pack! I am traveling for a month and struggled with what to bring. I settled on two vac filled pens with DeAtrementis Black and Pilot Kon Peki. I also brought a Pilot VP and 3 ink sample vials with bright colors. Also three tombow markers, a micron fine liner and uniball multipen/pencil. Making those choices was hard!

I just put together a very minimal sketch set for my next trip. I have a Franklin -Christoph A5 bamboo-paper sketchbook in on of their zippered covers, for added stiffness and a pen loop. The pen is a tiny no-name Chinese brass pocket pen with a fude nib, holding a cartridge refilled with De Atramentis Artist Ink Brown. Larely I've been listening to Lully and Purcell.

I teared up a bit cause I recently lost my little Gravitas Quark in Ultem recently. I miss that little guy but will absolutely be replacing it. Great pen! Also cosign the greatness of Diamine inks too! Ancient Copper is also a favorite
