Thanks for watching! I'm launching a new travel vlog every week, so stay tuned. Travel Lord On Location is a new channel, so please SUBSCRIBE and turn on NOTIFICATIONS if you enjoy my content and want to see my travel adventures.
About this Istanbul vlog:
In this vlog, I set out to see some of the secrets and hidden gems of Istanbul, Türkiye. I spent a month in the largest Turkish city and had such an amazing time. Thanks to my research and fans reaching out in the comments and on Instagram, I was able to see Istanbul off the beaten path. Some of the unique sights in Istanbul that I was able to see include:
- The Museum of Innocence
- Tombili
- Yeni Valide Mosque
- Maiden’s tower
- Pera Palace Hotel
- Galata Bridge
- Nakkaş Carpet Shop
- Nakilbent Cistern
- Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque
- Walls of Constantinople
- Pierre Loti Hill
While exploring Istanbul’s secret spots, I got to eat some Turkish cuisine. I had Kuzu at Dürümzade, which was visited by Anthony Bourdain. I also ran into a lollipop maker in Üsküdar, who sold me a Osmanlı Macunu.
I hope this Türkiye vlog helped you learn about some of Istanbul’s secret treasures. If you plan to take a future trip, you can use this information to explore Istanbul like a local.
About the history of Istanbul:
Istanbul, a city steeped in history, straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait. Its rich past dates back to around 660 BCE when it was founded as Byzantium. In 330 CE, Emperor Constantine the Great made it the capital of the Roman Empire, renaming it Constantinople. This ushered in a period of great wealth and influence, making it a pivotal center of the Byzantine Empire for over a thousand years. The city's significance continued in the Middle Ages as it became a focal point of the Crusades.
However, its most transformative moment came in 1453, when the Ottoman Turks, led by Sultan Mehmed II, conquered Constantinople, marking the end of the Byzantine Empire. Renamed Istanbul, it became the capital of the Ottoman Empire, a status it held until 1923. This era endowed the city with a rich architectural and cultural legacy, blending Eastern and Western influences, visible in landmarks like the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Today, Istanbul is a vibrant metropolis, echoing centuries of diverse cultural and historical influences.
About Istanbul tourism:
Istanbul, a mesmerizing blend of history and culture, is a top destination for travelers worldwide. Straddling Europe and Asia, it offers a unique experience where East meets West. Tourists are captivated by its historical sites, including the majestic Hagia Sophia, the splendid Blue Mosque, and the bustling Grand Bazaar. The Bosphorus Strait, offering scenic cruises, divides the city's European and Asian sides. Istanbul's rich culinary scene, ranging from street food to upscale restaurants, is a delight for food enthusiasts. The city's vibrant nightlife, diverse shopping options, and warm hospitality further enhance its appeal, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking a rich, cultural experience.

@@Chloe-hu9tf It's difficult as an outsider to come into a country and decide their borders and influence. There are a lot of disputed territories, regions and borders in the world that people don't agree with. When I document a country at a specific time in history, I've decided to show the borders and territories that reflect the beliefs of that country at that time.

@@TravelLordOnLoc Istanbul truly has so many great places that it'd hard to pick one as a favorite... But, beyond all the popular tourist places... I enjoyed the more personal places... My hotel was family ran & older so it felt more authentic. Plus it had a casual roof top area that was great at night to relax & watch the boats on the water & the Galata tower was just across the water so easily seen at night. Eating a fresh fish sandwich on the water in the same boat that caught the fish that morning. There was a family ran tea/coffee shop close to the aquaduct that typically only allows men, but it was raining so hard we were invited in to get dry & for all most two hours it was pure bliss of Turkish coffee & homemade sweets. At the opposite side of country I stayed a week in Antakya that has all the normal tourist places... saw the waterfall in Defne & the ruins of St. Simeons Monastery close to the Syrian border. End of my trip was spent with my Turkish friends/family in Samandag. I helped cook some Turkish food... Picked olives for 2 solid days in their orchard. So, I did all the tourist things, but more enjoyed the personal aspects of my trip. I plan to go back in the early fall as my Turkish family is still dealing with some issues from the 2 earthquakes. LOL... Told you I couldn't pick just 1 favorite 😂😂 Enjoy your trip & be safe.

Hello my friend, first of all, I would like to thank you for introducing Istanbul to people who live in various countries around the world and even if they want to come, they cannot come, and for showing them a little bit of this magnificent city. Tourists can generally see certain parts of Istanbul, such as Istiklal Street, Sultan Ahmed Square Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern and Galata Tower, but rest assured, there are places as beautiful as these places I mentioned, but I would like to draw special attention to Üsküdar district, which is not well known, I will write a few districts, Kuzguncuk, Beylerbeyi. ,Çengenköy, Kandilli, Beykoz district is another beautiful one, Kadıköy district has a more modern and secular structure, fashion district, Kalamış district, Bağdat street and of course Prince Islands, why not take a more in-depth tour of the islands district :)Love and greetings to all humanity from Istanbul..

One day, if you visit İstanbul again, you should stop by some of the districts along the Bosphorus- many of which were villages in the olden days- Beylerbeyi, Kuzguncuk (a must), Kandilli, Anadolu Hisarı, Çubuklu, Anadolu Kavağı (last stop) on the Asian side and Ortaköy (sadly lost its charm becoming too touristy but worth taking a special ferry ride from there when the Judas trees are in bloom), Bebek, Arnavutköy, Rumelihisarı, Emirgan, Yeniköy, Sarıyer, Rumelikavağı on the European side. Maybe you have seen them all, that I wouldn't know. Loved your videos, keep up the good work. On a side note: Köy means village. ie.The name Karaköy is derived from the Karaim Jews.

We would be happy to welcome you to our country. We have no problem with tourists. Unfortunately, it is said that Turks are racist towards Arabs But the reason why we are so racist is that, as you see in the video, people coming as refugees harm the general appearance and culture of the city. That's not the only problem, he must be dirty, work as a cheap worker and try to get ahead of our tradesmen, among other reasons.I would like to say this to my future friends: Turks are not racist, they just try to protect their country against people who harm them. For future guests, please be careful with taxi drivers; if they realize you are a tourist, they may try to deceive you. That's all I have to say, the video was very nice, I enjoyed watching it, thank you.

Merhaba. İstanbul surlarının üzerine çıkmak ve yürümek isterseniz size "Yedikule Zindanları"nı önerebilirim. Üsküdar'dan Marmaray'a binip Kazlıçeşme durağında ineceksiniz. Surlar ve zindanlar karşınızda olacak. Biraz yürüme ile oraya ulaşabilirsiniz. Burada uzanan surlarda bulunan şehre giriş kapılarından biri Bizans İmparatoru'nun şehre girdiği kapıdır. Restore edilmiş ve müze olarak gezilebilmektedir. Size iyi gezmeler, bize iyi izlemeler.

Go to Hacıbektaş and see a different kind of Islam. Most of the foreigners aren’t aware of Alevi-Bektaşi Culture in Türkiye. Actually this culture has strong effects in the modern history of country. This is Anadolu Hisarı (Anadolu Fortress) on the Asian side built by Ottoman Sultan Yıldırım Beyazıt in 1395, having been restored recently by the İstanbul Municipiality. Just across on the European side stands Rumeli Hisarı, built by Mehmed the Conqueror. The distance btw these two is the shortest on the Bosphorus. Have a nice day/night.
