Why di you think so ? I don't know about raising prices after Corona yet but Japan is actually a rather "cheap" country for hollidays if you really want to ... at least from Europe flight tickets before Corona were ~300-600€ (in some rare occasions you can even get discount tickets below 300€) and if you stay in a cheap hostel you can get a room for ~10€ a day (cheaper if you are in a group of at least 2 people) so flight and hostel can be less then 500€ for 2 weeks if you get super lucky (usually I'd calculate ~800-1000 for 2 weeks) and staying longer makes it actually less expensive (in %) food and drinks are also very affordable especially if you go to small restaurants and buy stuff in a Supermarket instead of Konbini. When I stayed in Japan for Working holiday my monthly expenses including rent for my flat was ~1000-1200€ for a whole month.

I worked on ferries like these in Sweden every Summer when I was a student 🙂 On a 3-5 hour crossing, you have a full restaurant, a cafeteria and a supermarket - no vending machines. There is also a cinema. All cabins have their own shower and toilet. On overnight crossings across the Baltic Sea, you have multiple restaurants, nightclubs, pubs and bars with live entertainment as well as duty free shops. A return cruise ticket (24 hours) to Finland or Estonia can be as cheap as 6 USD, 30-50 USD if you want to spend the day in Helsinki or Tallinn.😊

I am kind of surprised that the ferry didn't leave an hour or a hour and a half later to arrive in Tokyo at a more reasonable hour, but when it seems your focus is on transporting trucks, being reasonable for passengers is not a concern. The seas looked pretty calm, so I am glad you had a pretty smooth ride. Even though the price seemed pretty reasonable, it seemed like it was really stripped down compared to other Ferry's. I think I would want access to a restaurant, a shop, and Wi-Fi if I am going to be on a ferry for that long. Meeting the captain was a nice little touch that I have not seen on other ferry videos, but I do have to admit Sunflower ferry is in a special class for making a person feel valued. Otherwise it just gave me the feeling like it was built for Truck drivers who are considered employees at that point with the passengers just being a side business.
@travelloveranna2 жыл бұрын
Yes, in Tokushima, it seems that they need some time to get in and get out. Also, when we board on this ferry, you have to check in, get your room key etc. Also if some passengers get off, the staff probably check the rooms just in case.

Thank you for posting this video on a dark and sombre day for Japan. I have mixed feelings about the ferry - no wi-fi isn't good for a start and then you have to make your own bed!! It's also a shame there's no proper restaurant onboard. But on saying that there's good facilities on the ship and plenty of food and drink in the vending machines. I'm not sure how many foreigners take this route given that in the area where you heat your food in the microwaves everything was in Japanese. Maybe the staff might be able to help them out? Would I take this ferry given the chance? Yeah I probably would, just for the experience. Have a great weekend and take care of yourself.
@travelloveranna2 жыл бұрын
Yes...no wi-fi is not perfect but probably you can spend more time to focus on yourself for example. And I was able to enjoy the food from the vending machines, but a couple of days were enough.haha they taste good though. But no salad or no really healthy food as you can imagine. And I think this is a very interesting experience to everyone even to Japanese.haha Thank you for the comment as always and have a great great weekend!

Actually heating of food is very simple. No language required. Each vending machine has a large letter on it. The letter on the vending machine corresponds to the microwave to be used. Just put your food in the correct microwave and press start.

We used to have these cafe sorta places called Automats in the US where you could buy fresh food from basically a proto-vending machine. oh....yes, and thank you for the comment. I am so sorry to hear about it too. The guy is crazy and it seemed that he kinda made the gun :/ and we don't know the real motivation yet...

11:15 Ah, this reminds me of my days as a boy getting ferries from Ireland to the UK on family holidays, and one time, a ferry from Ireland to France on a school trip, to help me learn French. Great times. Being outside on the decks, with that ship engine sounds and the open sea air. Love it. Kinda scary, because you don't want to wind to blow you overboard, but that's probably never going to happen unless you're doing something really dumb, especially on a ship, as opposed to on a boat, as the bigger the vessel, the higher and stronger the waves have to be to do anything...having said that, I while I was asleep on the ferry to France or back again to Ireland, there was some rough weather and a classmate of mine did apparently say the next day that a wave managed to reach our windows or the outside decks or something like that. But again, that is really no problem for for ship that big. Maybe dangerous for a person caught in that wave though. But if they are outside in that weather then presumably they know they dangers that they have chosen to out themselves in.

11:32 I remember that Titanic movie scene too of the people waving to eachother from both the ship and the land. Great tradition. I have seen it still play out these days at docks here in Ireland too. My local Cork Harbour was the last port of call for the Titanic before it left to cross the North Atlantic Ocean.

Titanic...so cool

@@travelloveranna yeah. Because of our geographical location, we where the last major port for the British Empire before crossing the ocean to the New World of the North and south American continents. Apparently this is the second largest natural harbour in the world, and during the British Empire the British could theoretically fit their entire navy inside it. Plus, it's a warm water port, with lots of British forts that used to be defending it back during the British times. The forts are now basically tourist attractions and places to hold events like bikes races from Fort to Fort.

Love your ferry video! Some things are very similar to ferries in Canada where I’m from and some things are so different. It’s fun to see and compare. Safe travels!

@@travelloveranna I not recommend to travel solo for international travel. It's just too much trouble (got friend just deported from Myanmar even with all right paper) And not to mention costly(International flight prices are simply unreasonably pricey). But if you really want to travel Maybe try Singapore? Bali, Indonesia? Or maybe Maldives and Europe If you feel fancy.

I went on a 3-day cruise once. I enjoyed it, but mostly because I enjoyed spending time with the person who travelled with me. There were a lot of people on the boat, it was very noisy. I think I’d prefer this kind of travel.
