Question, so do you have to live in NV for a full year in order for the no state income 🤔 tax to take effect? How does that work? I'm looking to move there in 2024. So would I not get the full benefit of No state income taxe until 2025?

@@armandocorral7856 No. Whatever income you make in NV is not taxable, whether you work one week out of the year or the entire year. If you worked in another state for part of the year, you'd only pay income tax on those earnings.

When we made the decision to leave Vermont, mainly because the taxes were so overwhelming we also decided that Las Vegas could work for us, but after doing a lot of research we decided Las Vegas was to pricey and to congested, so we ended moving to Pahrump, Nevada which is 45 minutes west of Las Vegas. This town has everything you need, the housing market is 50% lower then the Las Vegas market. We ended up buying 20 acres of property that already had a well and septic system installed. We had a modest 2 bedroom , 2 bath house built for under $100,000 and we carry no mortgage on it. The property taxes are 0.5%. Me and my wife are retired from the military and now are independent computer system analyst for a defense contractor from Las Vegas. We work from home, pretty much the same jobs we did in the military but making 4 times the money.....

The one thing people ALWAYS forget to mention is the lack of high level medical care. They have a trauma center, yes, but very limited cardiac and neurological care, so you’ll be transported out of state for those. And although you may like the weather, the heat is pretty intense during the long summers.

We’ve lived here 30 years. The medical and doctors here are not good nor do they stay longer than several months before they depart. Californians have not helped things here, being a former CA person it’s not a compliment. Being retired we do look at all costs, new people lack of friendliness, and poor medical care….. currently the Las Vegas/Henderson NV area totally sucks.

Great video Ruby! FYI - Terribles used to be called Terrible Herbst. Owned by Edward R. Herbst, who was credited with becoming "the P.T. Barnum of gasoline" by engaging in unusual marketing strategies, undercutting the competition with low prices, and pioneering the convenience store model. According to his son, Jerry, each time the elder Herbst would open a new gas station, competitors would bemoan the move: "Here comes that terrible Herbst", inspiring the chain's nickname.

Hello, I left Las Vegas after almost 20 years of living there. I loved it there and I moved back 18 months ago to Southern California where I lived for 30 yrs before I retired. There is nothing bad to say about Vegas. Unless we live in the area that is in the North part. I left and I missed it, but I have reasons that I had to let it go. I still drive back but I sold all of my properties and left after my son died by suicide, there is nothing that can keep me there. I owned many mansions there and I was really happy there until that untimely event. I am back living closer to relatives here. I had 20 great years! I get comps because I am and have been the seven stars level, I paid nothing for 40 yrs + and I got the best penthouse they offer, but the casinos do not give you things for free, you earned the comps and cruises etc. Which means you play a lot, they comp you a lot. Losing or winning is just the games and timing. Good luck to you. I now live about 6 minutes from the nearest casino and Harrah's is about 25 minutes away. I don't gamble here in the Indian tribe casinos, they never paid much. You are young, you will love it in Vegas. Your KZbin channel will do very well because you have access to all the largest and nicest casinos. We used to play off the strips and we won every night. We hit the floors after all the tourists left. We won and went home. Even though we have the room always comped. That is the only way you control your gambling. You cannot play like NG, the Big Jackpot etc. You come back later, you still can play every day for 6-8 hours but you don't bet $250.00 a spin for that long. We played at Red Rocks and Palms and we had fun there. Good luck! Glad you like Vegas, I did!!!

My biggest plus to moving out here is that, even though Nevada can be a bit pricey, I still have been able to financially 'catch up' and even get slightly ahead. Nice video. Your move sounds like most people who relocate to Vegas as they immediately look to relocating in the suburbs. I think the challenge is most realtors are also locals and they just don't know the actual city of Las Vegas so they start recommending the suburbs or the city of Henderson. Unlike most cities where you move out to the suburbs for land...today's builders are putting homes on postage stamp lots and you are on top of your neighbors in the suburbs so you may want to think about moving back into the city because Las Vegas residents knew how to live in the 60's & 70's.. Las Vegas has the "Vintage Vegas" neighborhoods where the lots are all 1/3 acre plus, mature landscape (you would never believe you are in a desert), custom homes and are only minutes from the Strip, Downtown and airport. My favorite neighborhoods are Scotch 80's, Rancho Bel Air, Rancho Circle, Alta area and McNeil Estates.

A very clean and tidy series of neighborhoods, with some being multi-million dollar hoods. I use plural because Summerlin is ginormous and comprises of many, many smaller neighborhoods. Congrats on your new digs and let us know when you finally end up buying.

Just moved here last year from Chicago myself. Everything you said about how you feel about LV and the strip is the same for me. I still love it but it’s different. I definitely love downtown more than the strip but the parking sucks, I just get someone to drop me off there because I live close. But once you have been to every part of the valley as I have (I drive for a living so I have) you see that there are SO many wonderful neighborhoods that aren’t Summerlin. There is a neighborhood near the arts district that is all redone art deco that is suuuper cute. The eastern side all the way up the mountain east of Hollywood Blvd is really nice and not cookie cutter homes. I know you said you like the heat, having it be 115 for weeks gets a little rough though. 😂

Mr. and Mrs. Ruby have been fighting Wisconsin winters, where your entire existence turns into a frozen sub zero igloo, from November to March. Cars won't start. Pipes freeze. So much snow that you have to shovel...your ROOF. Cold that is so severe, that exposed skin will get frost bite in about 30 seconds. The ground is frozen so hard that it resembles cement. Nah, they'll enjoy the summer heat. Trust me. Even on Vegas' hottest days, you can still go outside and enjoy the evening at night. Winters in Milwaukee? Moved to Vegas last august and lived there for 5 months. It was great and you hit all the pros and cons I could think of. Everything is really close to each other (coming from someone who lived in Henderson which locals think is far lol). The locals I met there were all extremely nice people and they all definitely did not go to the strip 🤣. The only problem I ran into was that it definitely leans more into being a tourist city, being a local I felt a lot of things were WAY overpriced because they’re pricing things as an experience as well as a product. All in all I would not mind moving there again!

Why move out if you liked it? I believe that maybe once it was ok do to sunny days but paying for groceries and the never ending higher rents every year it’s just not valuable anymore. The city is overcrowded and seriously no real routes to travel from place to place without being delayed or blocked in. It’s not what it used to be and once the incoming collapse happens you might not want to be there.

true that. also, the schools/universities have casino owners on their boards who pay hefty sums so that they can keep the education levels subtly low, else who else will work in their hotels/resorts/casinos if the majority attains higher education. Also, just my experience, I was there in 2016 and March last year, as an example of the attitude of the people there, when I asked for the parking lot, the security folks told me that the only way was thru the casinos. Another example, we were purchasing weed and the girl at the counter said we could take it to Arkansas on the flight just so she could sell us $5 worth of gummies more. I mean, had it been some poor innocent folks who’d have believed her, they’d have easily fallen for her words as she was really nice and soft spoken, the result might well have been them serving jail time for carrying weed. Stayed there for 3 days and found few more examples like these. Now, imagine having a family there and your kids growing up in that environment, it’d work in the shorter run, but ultimately, people will see thru such motives. So, choose wisely, Vegas is just to spend some time and then come back home. 😊

It was once very easy to live there. Today you have high crime, homeless people everywhere. The cost of renting or buying is triple from 3, years ago. Unfortunately it’s not worth it anymore, there’s no value like it once had. The sunny days are great but again it’s a desert. The cost of living, utilities, groceries, will skyrocket again so I recommend a coast line where farms are plenty. You have no idea what hardships are near especially in that city.

Two years ago I drove about 2500 miles to move here myself, and yes, that CO highway route past Vail (IIRC) is terrifying with 18-wheelers and winds if you're anywhere near winter! EDIT to add about driving here: Be prepared, whether you're visiting or living here - The traffic lights are so long that you can reliably expect every red light to be followed by 1 to 3 cars just blowing through the red, so watch for that when your light turns green if you're first in line.

I would expect "living in LV" videos to almost be more tourist-oriented, like what you'll see for a brief trip, highlighting a lot of things people already know - it's less expensive off strip, it's hot in the summer, gas prices are high. Like and subscribe! You go further and talk about things that people actually want to know about, things they will understand with context from where they themselves live - speed traps! State taxes! Insurance! It's like talking to a friend after they moved out there, an honest and up-front chat where you learn something. I've always loved how peaceful that desert makes me feel and wondered what it would be like to just live out there, and this video was super interesting and helpful! I ended up buying a home in Green Valley Ranch which is (not exaggerating) 10 minutes to the airport and about 13-15 minutes to the Strip where I work, which is why I ended up buying there.... Summerlin would be double my commute time. Also, Green Valley is a part of Henderson (not Las Vegas) so we have our own Police Department, Fire Department, etc which is nice because they aren't tied up with the craziness that goes on on the Strip and Downtown which is part of Las Vegas. I recommend considering Green Valley when you are looking for a home. Take a drive around, I'm sure you will love it :)
