Thank you Ruby you’re so right on all this I live 75 miles from Vegas. And most of those reasons are why I don’t live in Vegas . I’ll visit the city but I do not go to the strip it’s ridiculous$ charging $20 for parking outrageous restaurants prices I visit the casino off the strip local also like off strip casino my friends ask me where to stay when they come here do I tell them rent a car and stay off the strip and watch your web site

One of the WORST things about las vegas is the public education system. I moved there my senior year of high school and was appalled at the classes I was taking. It was stuff I had learned freshman year in montana. So sad for the kids who are raised in that system.

4 year LV resident and these are my top reasons 1) Geographic location: Close to California for a trip to the Beach, Disney. Utah for Zion, Bryce. Arizona for Grand Canyon 2) It's easy to have family and friends visit because you're in Vegas 3) Very cosmopolitan. You can find any ethnic cuisine 4) Entertainment Capital of the World: Music, Sports, Magic, Comedy 5) Airport flies non-stop to many destinations for city the size of Vegas 6) No natural disasters: earthquake, tornado, hurricane 7) I'll take dry heat over humid heat any day. I've lived in New Orleans before and done being sticky and sweaty 8) Red Rock, Mt Charleston, Valley of Fire offer great outdoor rec 9) Diversity is well balanced. Not one overwhelming ethnic group 10) Staycation at amazing resorts like the Venetian, Bellagio, or Wynn

Even in Cali the car insurance premiums went up 45% with no tickets, accidents, or claims. LV is special when it comes to car accident lawsuits and thank the lawyers for that. You can sue the other party for way more than you are actually out in costs. Imagine you get into an accident and your hospital bill is $50,000. You only paid $5000 out of pocket with your health insurance, but you can sue for the entire $50,000 bill. In other states like CA, you can only sue the actual cost you are out the $5000 deductible. If you think it is good to be able to sue for more, wait until you are at fault and the other party has huge medical bills. These huge settlements are raising everyone's rates. Las Vegas car insurance premiums are also high because of the high amount of accidents, DUIs, and uninsured drivers.

The disasters have not been more numerous. The reason your insurance has gone up so much is because of inflation. When the government prints trillions the value of your money goes down so you need more of it to purchase the same value of stuff. We are also now subsidizing tens of millions of illegal immigrants that get in accidents and do not have insurance (because they cannot legally purchase it)

I lived coastal in southern California for 30 years, in a row on condos between $600k and $1 million and the homeless overran our street. I was getting killed in state tax + CA gas tax with nada to show for it except giant potholes to avoid on every freaking freeway. Here in Summerlin it is clean, traffic is light, shopping is great, people are nice and I have had a great three years here. I enjoy the Arts District, Red Rock Canyon, Boulder City + easy access to Utah and Arizona. We did a few tours with the LV Historical events in April. I took a quick Drive this AM to Lee Canyon for fresh air + walk and that's great too.

I lived in Vegas a while back and I'm so glad I don't live there anymore. We visit yearly and have a blast but when you're a tourist, it's a different vibe. Yes, the healthcare is awful. My dad passed away from cancer while living in Vegas and getting pain meds or trying to talk to his doctor while he was in the hospital was a nightmare. Yes, the heat is AWFUL (unless you're Ruby). Wanna know what the heat feels like on your face when you open your front door to walk outside? It feels like when you open your oven that was preheated at 450°F. No lie. But the one thing I hated the most was the lack of family life. My parents worked at different hotels and their schedules were crazy. We were never able to go to a park as a family, a museum or a sporting event (this was before the Raiders moved in). And holidays? Forget it. So, unless you're employed at a regular 9-5 job, having family time is nearly impossible.

Yes, leaving the house or a store feels like walking right into a pizza oven! 🥵 My favorite time here is fall, the first day you can actually feel that summer is over, you still don't need long sleeves or even a jacket, it's just great walking outside, taking your time, breath in, breath out. 😊

LOL, at least it cools down at night. You should see northern Texas. It's on average 5-10 degrees HOTTER than Vegas and even worse, it stays hot and humid at night. The temps barely drop below 90. Las Vegas actually gets cold at night. That doesn't happen in Texas so you're miserable trying to sleep in the very warm humidity at night even in September.

We moved to Vegas from So Cal ten months ago. Agree about the drivers but in our case it’s a ton of pick up trucks and crazy drivers moving from one to lane to another. We purchased brand new construction up in the NW Sunstone community. Our electric bill has not gone above $150.00 on any month. In Palm Springs our electric bill hit almost a $1000.00 a month in the summer. We love not having the state income tax and we got a lot more home for our money here versus California or Atlanta where we lived prior to California. Food here is a little less than So Cal. We mainly shop at Costco and Smith’s. Our auto insurance is less here than So Cal. We switched to Costco insurance and it saved us a bundle for the exact same coverage. I think health coverage is just going to hell across this country for various reasons. Not sure if it’s a total Vegas thing but the wind up here in the NW is almost constant to the point of annoying. So far we like Vegas a lot. We have yet to venture down to the strip but love doing mini vacays at Circa downtown. Heading there again tomorrow. Homeless is an issue in so many areas and I don’t think anyone can figure it out. In our small So Cal town it was out of control. Not sure what the answer is.

When I moved here, my car insurance doubled - and that's moving from DC metro! Went from just under 100/mo, to slightly-over 200/mo. No accidents or tickets, a few-years-old non-luxury/non-sports car, good credit etc. Seconded also about the restaurants even in the outskirts upcharging a bit, and it being hard to find good doctors here. Still, overall cost of living for me went down something like 20-25% moving here.

Sometimes people come in for complaints that are not suited for an ER and that is where they sometimes go. Yes information has to be given to patients and can be overheard anywhere, long as the information isn't identifying to the specific patient. It isn't ideal, but we work with what we have. Yes -don't believe the "love the heat"...people "love the heat" when they can either get out of it into AC or be in water all day. It's quite simple, temps over 100 degrees are very uncomfortable to all humans. I live in Sacramento CA and its gets real hot, but at night there are breezes that come in from the delta and usually cools things down, which allows outside activities more often. I used to work with a broker of mine in Phoenix and I would argue that people are active, but they can't go outside half the time. Her argument was it was ONLY half the year man cmon! BTW we keep out thermostat at 80-81 and use a lot of house fans. Drivers are the same everywhere, just look at the heads drop at every stop light while people look at their phones. Everywhere I've been in USA. When I go to Reno (often) I get zoomed past, tailgated and cutoff just as much with Nevada plates as any others, it has to do with age and stupidity, which is universal. And I drive pretty fast!

I’m from NJ, our emergency room has curtains that divide everyone. You only get a private room if you have a medical issue and need constant observation. They even leave people overnight in the emergency room, with curtain separation. You can hear EVERYTHING. I’ve never had a private room except when I had my child. 😐 I thought this was normal! BUT I will say, my bf was assaulted in LV (by previous partner) and bled out. The hospital saved his life and he was a week in recovery in a private room. He’s doing well and they even sent a nurse to his house for follow up wound care. So it just depends on what you have going on, the treatment plan they create for you, and the kind of insurance you have.

It's interesting to see the differences from our state. Gas is usually around $3, Ketchup is like 3 big bottles for $9.99. Insurance is about $110 for 2 cars. Food prices where we are really aren't that bad, anymore. But they've come down to nearly pre-COVID levels. Like a bag of chicken tenders used to be $19 during the pandemic, now down to $13 (3 lbs). Chicken breast you can buy for like $2.50 a lb all day long. Milk is about $2.80 a gallon. I went out West once, after living in the South. Expected to get off the plane and be shocked by the desert heat. Instead, it felt amazing. I thought it must be a cool day, but I saw a bank clock and it was 97 degrees. Low humidity makes ALL the difference.

It would help if Vegas got rid of those faded reflector dots and had real lanes painted on the road like other places. Some people don't know what lane they're in. Also getting rid of that suicide lane and having a medium would reduce accidents by half at least.

Yes, I think they want accidents. There are hardly no line separating where you're supposed to drive. And very crooked lanes, and the way that people drive around here, it's not even funny, I see them all the time, driving like maniacs on the expressway, i'm starting to think they're probably like sports stars or something they must not care about the tickets... They will turn right in front of you when you're waiting for a light and the light turns green, they'll come from the right lane when you're in the left lane and turn and the accidents here are horrific

Here’s a fact: From 1995 1994,:92% of mentally ill Americans living in psychiatric hospitals were deinstitutionalized and released to the community. Way faster than taking the shuttles and the security lines are usually much shorter in terminal 3

Re airport I like that it is almost never as congested as other big airports and since it’s a stop for a lot of international & local flights, its convenient for those who like to travel. Airport parking is so expensive, anyway so I’ve done off-airport parking (in a strip casino) that runs shuttles to airport or are accessible with a short Uber or taxi from airport. Last month I brought a friend to a couple of active adult communities here in Las Vegas as she is planning to downsize and move here or to Northern California. I’m sharing this vlog with her. Great video as I am a local of Las Vegas for over 14 years and I have seen a lot change since the Pandemic. VEGA$ has managed to MORPH itself into a suburb of CLOWNIFORNA!!!! People really need to do their research before moving anywhere in Nevada!!!!

Well, places like Vegas are a bit unique for groceries - for 2 good reasons. 1, the giant casinos with their zillions of restaurants vacuum up all the local supplies, leaving less available for stores. Low supply, high demand - high prices. Also, because it's not possible to grow crops close to town (because desert), everything has to be flown or trucked or shipped in from far away. Raises the price versus the fertile Midwest.

I agree, driving here is different. Traffic is not bad at all compared to what I was used to in Austin. Nevada plates can also mean rental cars so I am not quick to judge. I grew up in Wisconsin too so I hear ya on a lot of these things. So on point with your pros and cons. I moved to my favorite place too. At first I felt like I was on vacation and now sometimes I am still like oh I live here :) I got to the strip a lot so I am not one of those to avoid that part of the city. I lived in Austin for about 7 years so I got used to heat, traffic, high rent and a busy airport. It would be a big change if I went straight from Wisconsin. Thanks for the great content

Um, I live in northern Texas and it's NOT cheap. Gas prices up $1.20 a gallon in only a year, housing prices are OBSCENE. I will not pay $250,000 for a 800 sq ft house that has a fugly popcorn ceiling cracked in a million places and has NO garage. Oh and on top of that, every single damn house is in an HOA. I predict soon, the homeless population will be just as bad here as in NV, OR, CA etc...

PS: my parents had a house in Irving 20 years ago that had a 2 car garage, a back yard, 950 sq ft of space and cost under $125,000. That same house was relisted for a despicable $365,000 last year online. It is NOT worth $360K not even with a gold bathtub.

I moved here in 2005 from Illinois, Go Bears!!! Costs have certainly risen and the lifestyle is different. In some cases not having the bitter cold in the winter and the humidity in the summer is nice, but I do miss the fall season and grass and dirt. I wish our internet costs were better. I know some places pay less than $70 a month for unlimited gigabyte speeds. Not sure if now we will stay. I kind of want to find a place with 4 seasons, grass, dirt, tress, etc. Our 4 season are cold, warm, warmer and melt your face.

Insurance rates in California for vehicles have increased too. Some of the reasons are because of the higher costs of car parts, and because many insurance companies are leaving the state altogether, so there is less competition.

My husband fell at the airport trying to retrieve luggage and had to go to the Sunrise ER (started at urgent care in the airport but they were leary of doing stitches behind the eyebrow). After 2 CT scans and being parked in a busy hallway where we could hear everything going on at the desk where the doctors, students, and clerical staff worked we spent more than 2 hours just waiting for 6 stitches. My husband is a diabetic and hadn’t eaten in a long time so we were discussing just leaving. The clerical nurse immediately went to the physician telling him we were about to bolt and within 20 minutes the stitches were done and he was discharged. What a zoo!
