I've been in the USA for years now - but if ever you are back at Barrowford Locks take a few hours off and visit my home village of Barrowford and grab a pint at the White Bear and George and Dragon pubs. Fond memories of those places from back in the 80s/90s. My brother will get you in the members only Lamb Club if you want to sit outside in the garden of a traditional working mens pub.

Thank you for this vlog Kevin. Our first canal cruise was back in 1976 from Preston to Tewitfield and return. There had been a severe drought so the branch to Glasson was closed; we walked there and back after a lovely lunch on the docks. Unfortunately we had a mechanical problem with our boat which meant a mechanic coming out every day to fix the issue. We got quite friendly with the poor guy.... felt sorry for the him.... particular after he left his jacket and car keys on the boat after the last ‘fix’ and had the chase us up the tow path for 45 mins. 🥴

A little late to the game here, Kevin, but if you still check these comments...I want you to know your Amazon videos kept me going through one of the toughest years of my life when I watched them for the first time in 2022. I have a very tough job with children, but "therapeutic" luckily does not even do justice to your work. Your sincere goodness, pleasure in the simple things, and idiosyncratic takes -- not to forget Aslan's reliable putt-putt -- truly buoyed me, pun intended. I had never gotten around to checking how Covid hit your narrowboat scene, but I had worried for you every once in a while in the back of my mind. Would he be scared, paralyzed as so many were by the worldwide phenomenon? Perhaps give up the whole undertaking, as several other struggles had challenged the process? But I am so deeply glad to see that your interests and lifestyle literally provided the perfect escape, and I hope you continue to live your favorite, best, and most pleasant life on the canals. -Exhaustedly Righteous in MD, USA

Kevin, Just finished the Pork Pie episode. Wow, the difference in you now vs you when you bought Aslan is amazing. So much more relaxed, comfortable in yourself, healthy, just wow. So very glad to see you...happy. About that pork pie, I’ve never had one. Being a Yank and from the South, just not something we have here. Our pies are mostly fruit. Still, really good to see you doing so very much better. Good on you. Scott

Well Kevin my old mate, I have to say trying to follow your travels in chronological order over the last two years (after you left Crick for the second time) using both Amazon Prime Video and KZbin has been a bit of a detective mystery story. However, in the true spirit of the lads and lasses of Bletchley Park I have solved the enigma and I now fully understand what's going on. If you had told me three years ago I would be addicted to the wanderings of a 50ish year old bloke chugging the canals of Britain I would have laughed at the prospect. How is it possible to enjoy watching a 20 minute video about a guy changing his engine oil and having his boat painted? I have no answer, but I just love it. Stay safe my friend and don't ever, ever stop.
@CountryHouseGent3 жыл бұрын
Ha yes it is a bit complicated in places but makes sense when you sort it out. 😁 Agreed it is a mystery why the series is so popular, but I'm not complaining. 😎

Dear Kevin, I rarely look at KZbin so my introduction to Travels By Narrowboat was totally happenstance. What Luck! No, what a GIFT! Country House Gent's contribution to the joys of leisure viewing cannot be overstated. Your personality, creativity, professional photography and communication skills are remarkable. And the impact you have had on so many cannot be insignificant based on posted comments. I, like so many others, watch every episode and encourage family and friends to do the same and am eagerly looking forward the your new travels by bike. PS: Your public journey has inspired me to be more courageous in my own life, even when moving toward the unknown. This quote attributed to Nelson Mandela seems appropriate to your journey and for those of us who still have our journey ahead......."The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." With best regards, EMBrock

Someone actually asked why you film the wildlife? Sheesh! My fav. parts are the wildlife, especially the little fluff ball babies, the history lessons (because we basically have no history in California), gorgeous scenery & cooking demos. I haven't heard of most of those dishes or some of the ingredients, but it's very fun to watch & learn. I loved your ex-wife showing up when you needed her. She is awesome. Pls never stop filming. It's therapeutic, educational & a lot of fun. You, Kevin, are talented, intelligent, interesting, strong (if you weren't before you are now) caring & a survivor. Karma will come to those depraved thugs who attacked you on NY's eve.

Many moons ago, I made the mistake of moving from the comfortable south to the barren north and found myself stranded close to the northern reaches of the Lancaster canal. I decided to head back south on a canal boat but, luckily, I discovered in good time that the Lancaster canal went no further south than the river Ribble. I managed to find a job driving a trip boat on the Grand Union but it was the summer of 1976 and the project was very short-lived due to the shortage of water. But, hey-ho, nearly 50 years later I am still here and still a huge fan of the lifestyle. These days, I mostly walk bits of the towpath between Milton Keynes and Watford but I also have an inflatable canoe which is currently for sale because I’m just too old and knackered. Best wishes, Ken

Hi Kevin, Started season 7. I can’t believe how many locks are through out the canals! But it is very impressive and interesting to be able to travel and live in a Narrow boat.
