I looked at a Casita locally near my home, and liked what I saw. Really liked the twin bed option (I am single, but travel with my dog). Unfortunately, hitch weight on the Casita was a deal breaker for my tow vehicle. With Scamp, I could either go with a 13’ or 16’ camper, and still be within tow limits. Both are excellent choices, but what I can tow is what I bought! Thanks for your insight … very useful.

@@MrStu I have a 2017 Volvo XC60, to which I added the “Polestar” upgrade to provide additional horsepower and torque. I can tow up to 4400 pounds with this configuration. I wouldn’t go any higher than 250 lbs. on the hitch, which is why the Scamp 13’ is a great fit for my car.

I love my 13' deluxe Scamp but being solo is the #1 reason. If I traveled with a partner I'd opt for the 16' Floorplan 6 Scamp. I don't travel in winter or mid summer so if I were to buy another Scamp it wouldn't be the deluxe. I don't use the AC or awning and rarely use the water heater. I'd opt for only one propane tank to conserve weight. I've never needed two tanks. I might even consider just using the fridge as an icebox since it's a big drain on the battery. In fact, I mostly do that now. I like the toilet but have gone to using bowl liners that I can dispose of at dumpsters. Finding RV dump sites is a pain and such a messy job! I love the ease of changing out parts, the ease of ordering replacement parts on the Eveland website and getting personal help when I call them. I go off road and do a lot of mountain driving. Tow vehicle is a Jeep Unlimited but have also towed with a Forester. Towed great with both but uphill was underpowered with the Forester. I've been following your channel and noticed you've had MANY kinds of RVs. I wonder why you change your RV type so often. Every type will have disadvantages and advantages. Are you guys impulse buying? Maybe do a video of all the types of RVs you've owned, how long you owned them, cost of owning each, initial price of each and pros and cons of each. That might help your viewers make good decisions when buying their first RV or switching.

I had a 2002 13' Scamp for about 14 years. It was nicely equipped with the options available at the time of manufacturing. (No bathroom) I added a small solar panel to the roof to maintain the battery without shore power, 15W. It was a great little trailer that I could haul anywhere that it would clear the road. It did leak where the floor met the walls and I had to do some caulking maintenance. Also, the contour door warped and didn't seal well. I don't think they make those doors now. My wife wanted to upgrade to something with a bathroom. Instead of getting on a wait list for a Scamp or Casita we went with a 17' R-Pod. 6 years later we tired of the inconvenient floor plan and were able to make a deal on a new Casita SD. The R-pod had some features that Casita doesn't offer like tank monitoring and black tank spray, and low point drains for the fresh water. Other than that the Casita feels like a total upgrade. About the only option we didn't get is the microwave and there's no regrets about that. We've only had time to make a couple of trips since getting the Casita, but it is very livable. We're looking forward to a lot of Casita miles and not looking back at my well loved little Scamp (or the R-pod for that matter.)

Do you notice the space difference between the Aline and the Casita? A first time trailer owner, I'm looking pretty hard at Aliners as a test to see how much I may actually use a trailer. A decently appointed used Aliner I can pick up for $10k+/-, where Casita and Scamps used are selling for what people paid for them! I hope you take a moment to share with me your thoughts on the jump from the Aliner to the Casita. Thank you!
@DavidMedina4All
@DavidMedina4All 2 жыл бұрын
@@richarde1355 hello. In regards to space, I definitely notice the space difference. I’m not losing any head room since it’s not an A frame. Inside, it’s apx 14’ and a half in length vs the 10’ I had in my Aliner. Having storage up top as well as down on the bottom is also a plus. All this may be irrelevant. As you said, you have to consider how much you may actually use the trailer or in what way you wish to use it or the needs on your list. Casitas hold a better resale value (for sure). Good to know that if it doesn’t work out for you, that you can sell it with ease. The Aliner worked well for the use we were giving it at the time and as a first camper. Also, the Aliner is much easier to store in a garage vs the Casita. Just something to keep in mind. I think they’re both great campers, though one is at a different level or higher category. It comes down to which one is the best fit for you. Watch all the youtube videos you can on each. That was helpful to me. Best of luck!
@richarde1355

@@DavidMedina4All Thanks for the response! I only 'need' a camper for occasional local weekend camping right now. The appeal of the Aliner are many, 1) used much more affordable than a Casita or Scamp, 2) lighter and easier to tow and navigate, and 3) easier to store. However, eventually I know I will be a Casita or Scamp owner, perhaps in the next 3-5 years. By the checklist needs, an Aliner or similar should fit the bill. With that said, the prices seem to be going up pretty quickly on the Casitas and Scamps, and it might be prudent to get in line to purchase one (I believe both are just about a year out in delivery of a newly ordered trailer). Nice to have options!

This was a very thorough comparison. I learned a lot from it. We had already done the comparison, and decided on a new Casita Independence. We had a 1979 model year 13’ Scamp from 2011 until 2014. We really enjoyed camping with it, and took it on many great long trips. It was old, however, and had multiple issues. Our new Casita is due for delivery about this time next year. $20, 000.00 for a 13 foot to me compared to getting a 16/17 foot for about $6'000.00 more is not entry level. Might as well get the larger trailer. If the 13 foot were $5, 000.00 cheeper that would be entry level. But thanks for the video. I also have a problem with the excessive lead times. People with an itch for a trailer now have a bunch of dealers in my area ready to take their money.

Agree on the lead time. I'm looking hard at either a Class B or a small bumper pull to replace my 32' travel trailer as I head into retirement. When I'm ready to pull the trigger, a two year wait just won't fit into my plan.

I honestly don't see why the costs of either are justified. I have been looking at multiple types of trailers and I see much more value to price with other trailers. (All of which can be towed by a half ton pickup or SUV.) So, why even consider getting one of these?
@TravelsandTravails
@TravelsandTravails 8 ай бұрын
Good question. If you want a trailer that lasts for 20+ years, pick a molded fiberglass trailer. If you’re only planning on having it a couple years, a stick-built trailer will be fine.
