@@TravelTipsbyLaurie my husband is "all about flashlights". We have clip on for travel & our "seasoned" eyes. He recommends the Fenix EO1. I'm just starting to use readers and this little light helps with menu's in romantic (dimly lit) restaurants.

Going on a cruise Pack sm. Flashlite, travel umbrella. Some snacks to eat on plane, book to read then leave the book in ship's library. Have your contact list up to date. Like the bank, CC. Relatives, friends. And wet cloths for hands & face.

One travel essential I have is chapstick. My lips always are dry but especially when traveling. I usually take a few because you know they get lost so easily! I take at least one ultra moisturizing for wearing at night and others with at least spf 15 in them because I don’t want my lips to get sunburned either. Thanks for the tips!

great tips! especially taking a photo of your boarding pass! Never thought of that! and going to look for that gold bond lotion. I bring eye drops on long international flights b/c your eyes need moisture! An inflatable neck pillow is a must for me too.... but inflatable...takes up a lot less space! I actually like the skull candy style earphones...iphone earphones fall out! Must depend on shape of ear canal. Sunglasses with reader lenses at the bottom are also great for reading your phone while outside or at the pool. Yes, I'm 3 yrs older than you, but also a Texan (SA) who lives in Peru!

Hi Laurie, it’s Rhonda. Another travel essential I keep in my purse, I just thought about what I do, (I Carrie this with me at all times, not only when traveling,), is, keep a written list of ALL surgeries & ALL meds with dose & times of day they are taken, with me. That way, if something should ever happen to me, (knock on wood), they can give that to the Dr. if need be. I also keep a list of all my meds, along with...doses, mg, how often I take them, which Dr. prescribed it & what symptom it’s for, in my phone since I always have my phone with me, & I don’t always have my purse. Anyway, just a thought. Again, I really really love watching your videos. Thank you so much. 😀

Thanks, Laurie, for yet another helpful video! One travel essential for me is snacks! One never knows when hunger will strike, and that can make for a cranky and less energy traveller (...but enough about me, though..😉). Also, these items can be so costly in the airport gift shops. Thanks also for the past recommendation of that Gold Bond Diabetic Body Lotion! I bought a big bottle, and took some in reusable containers in my TSA bag. My Mom-in-law really appreciated some in a jar from me. Excellent product!

I just ordered an LL Bean crossbody purse as my early Christmas gift from my husband. I am so excited and I feel like it will be good during travel, had a coupon code so got it a bit cheaper than original price. The Maine warden tote bag also from LL Bean will hold all my and my sons clothes in packing cubes plus a sleeve of pullups and wipes. I was traveling with grandchildren and wanted to take something smaller to put my pills/supplements in and was child proof. I asked my pharmacy for a larger pill contained that was child proof, and they were very kind to give me one free. I have tiny plastic bags (1 1/2 inch square) which can be purchased in the jewelry craft department of Walmart or craft store (about $1 for 50). I marked them am or pm, put the appropriate days pills in each and put them in the pill bottle. This worked for me, and this took up less space than other pill boxes I looked into. I also put in a couple of days extra pills in case of some kind of delay and I also put my list of pills/dosage in there in case of emergency. I enjoy your videos.

Check out Reader Rest which is a reader holder. I love it and it works really well. Pills (and I take a lot of them), I take them in the tiny ziplock bags from a pharmacy and put in ziplock bag. This works really well and is the smallest thing you can do, afaik. For overseas it is recommended that you get a list of meds from your pharmacy. I use my good old Kindle Keyboard 3 on the plane (got it brand new last year) for audiobooks, and I keep ginger chews handy in case I get hit with AMS (has happened in the past, so I'm always prepared) - sometimes prophylactically, sometime to treat it; I also take snacks on the plane (apple slices and hummus is my current favorite - I have plenty of room to put the hummus in the liquids bag). I print my boarding passes because I don't have a smartphone, and do it before I leave home (saves time at the airport), then keep it in my shirt pocket once I get past security (keeps it super handy but still secure). I take my own water bottle empty through security, then make sure to fill it up after - saves me a bunch of money buying it in the airport, and I don't have to worry about condensation. I also use noise cancelling headphones on the plane 1) so that I can actually hear the audiobook I'm listening to, and 2) to dampen the noise of takeoff and landing (the engine revving and the brakes engaging are just too loud for my poor sensitive ears). The next time I travel, I'll get to try out my compression socks by Sockwell - love them for everyday, but really excited to see how they work on the plane.

As I'm an older traveler now (70) and want to stop checking my bag, if I need help getting my roll aboard into and out of the overhead storage, I will carry $1 packs of gum (the larger ones in plastic carrying cases) to give the person who helps me. I was going to use large candy bars, but that's not for everyone. And trying to hand someone cash for helping is awkward. Who can refuse gum on a flight...and I will really appreciate their help. I've read its nice to have chocolates for the flight attendants, also. OH, and of course the dollar bills for all of the nice the luggage handlers.

Hasbro actually makes magnetic versions of many of their board games including Chess, Checkers, Clue, and even Life. These are almost always called "travel edition." The entire box is usually not much bigger than the quart sized toiletries bag. I also load my phone and laptop up with games that do not need internet. You can also download some movies too. You can bring some simple crafts to make too. For instance one lady I saw did knitting with no needles (you can't bring them)

I always pack a SIM card pin thingy. Also, a plastic bag for your original SIM card. If you are planning to buy a temp SIM card. :)

Hey Laurie! Great tips!! I’m a clean freak, so I always take a travel size pack of Clorox wet wipes as well as a travel packs of regular wet wipes. LOL maybe neurotic is a better word 😆. Just curious, have you tried Stevia yet? I use Stevia in the raw and find it is very close to sugar, and as an added bonus, it’s all natural. Have a blessed day lovely lady!

I would honestly always use noise canceling headphones for use on the airplane. Otherwise, you'd be turning up the volume too high to try and hear it well over the engine.

Hi. My name is Chris. Years ago I traveled on British Airlines and they told me that all international carryon size was 18 inches. Is this true?
@TravelTipsbyLaurie
@TravelTipsbyLaurie 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I would check your airline's luggage requirements. In the US, most main line carriers have 22 inches as the length, but inbetween countries in Europe, for example, the requirements may be different. Thanks for watching!

A lot of Airports like Baltimore, Charlotte and Orlando have their own app as well. They can be super helpful with gps map locations if your next flight is in another terminal as some of mine have been. Also, I know you (Laurie) don't like it, but I find for long flights the poncho style jackets with NO sewn sleeve holes works well to double as a blanket when on board for a long haul. I never use back packs due to my hip issues so it works better for someone like me than someone who does use a backpack. I also recently saw a interesting hack by Paleo Postman in a video called Suitcases How to Pull Them involving belts or in my case luggage straps. It shows how you can pull up to three rolling suitcases on one hand at the same time almost effortlessly. Also Skull Candy makes great over ear buds like those you showed too. www.skullcandy.com/shop/earbuds/sport-earbuds/chops-flex I find Skull Candy is good quality for lower price. I personally like the ear buds though because I can sleep on my side with them in.

Emily, I love that you mentioned the airport apps. I had not even looked at those! I kind of think the sleeveless ponchos would work. I tried on a short sleeved one the other day, and it did not. But like you said, without a backpack, it's not an issue. Thanks so much!
