We just watched this video and were awed by the beauty. The trails were great, so pristine, and peaceful. We could hear an eagle calling and other animal sounds. Thank you for going there and showing everyone the beauty of Alaska. Keep up the great work you do. It's the only way some of us will ever get to see these places.

WOW, another great video, and yet another video that hits close to home. Having grown up in SW Missouri with an interest in history, I have visited some of the places you have produced videos on in SW MO, NW AR, NE OK and SE KS, and I learned so much more from your videos. Now you are again close to a place I lived at from 1977 => 1982, Alaska. A really fascinating place. Thank you for all the work and then sharing.

In a word, "Incredible!" What an interesting excursion! Can't say that I would go to a place like this, but find it fascinating that in this day and age, there is still a place so pure with nature that there are no roads. Good for them that they fought off the evil department of transportation! Question for you - in parts of the video, it sounds like it was raining. Was it, and what was the temperature while you were hiking? Thanks very much for taking us along! So enjoyable!

This was so beautiful from start to finish...all the tall trees and ferns 💚 I've never looked into Alaska at all, and I'm so glad you've shown so much of it's natural terrain in this series. It doesn't look at all as I expected - I think I was just thinking about glaciers or something like that. But in this forest you can see what happens when nature takes its course and is left alone to do so - all the huge tree bases uprooted by who knows what (storms? disease?). I used to see that in Louisiana all the time after hurricanes, but they were cleared away within a few weeks or months. But not in this forest - it's just incredible to look at. A small maritime town with no roads sounds about as good as it can get (imo)....loved the sweet little seal (?) at 7:00...what treasures Daniel and Bobby were, being able to talk with someone who'd been the mayor there had to be seriously gratifying, priceless. Did you happen to see any seaplanes while you were there? Thank you for this video, and the entire series, I love that it's so authentic, rather than leaning towards "touristy".
@TravelwithaWiseguy
@TravelwithaWiseguy 5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! Those trees were really interesting and looked like they had been laid over for a long time. Maybe the brutal winter weather does that? 🤷🏼‍♂️ yeah I never would’ve thought about Alaska being like this so thankful for this KZbin opportunity to take me there! Didn’t see any seaplanes this time.

I do believe that place is the most bizarre place I have ever seen you at. But, it really is the nicest (not kidding). I think the thought of walking up on a bear, without you or the bear knowing is kind of (to say the least) scary. Be good, be safe !! Glad you are OK.

Jake was a cousin of mine. He went out grouse hunting on Mother's Day. He slipped and fell on the ice, and the gun went off, hit him in the head. Very sad, he was a great kid.

can we expect a new "top 10 smallest towns" segment this time from Alaska?
@TravelwithaWiseguy

Unfortunately no. I did look them up but it would’ve taken an entire month and maybe $20k to do it because you’d have to fly to tiny airports for most of them.

A visit to the Chamber Office in Petersburg would have provided much more information to prepare for your excursion over to Kupreanof. For instance, when visiting a rainforest - you need boots and a waterproof jacket, maybe a hat! Exposure can be an issue if you're not prepared! Also - did Bob mention the fox farms? And Tlinget.... is pronounced Clink-it the Tl sound is a hard K or hard C sound. Nice overview, but so much more is available to learn....

Yes I did visit the Chamber in Petersburg as well as the museum. And I emailed the Kupreanof city clerk, called the office numerous times. I asked about a dozen different people to meet with me and ran into dead ends every time. I only ran into Bob by luck. There’s more to the story but I don’t want to be negative - everyone was very nice, but the situation was difficult to find me help. Believe me I did ask A LOT.

@TravelwithaWiseguy So sorry everyone was non responsive... there are some fascinating stories out there and some other characters who would have made your visit much more rewarding! I myself have a year round home in Petersburg and an off-grid getaway on Kupreanof - it's just not in the town boundaries of the incorporated city. I did enjoy your video and have shared it with family and friends. Thank you

I lived in West Petersburg from 1968 thru 1981 which is long before they rail roaded the second class city in there and started calling it Kupernof. It was far better back in them days and i for one will never go there to visit for any reason what so ever. They said to preseve their way of life but how about all the people that were there before they showed up.

You didn't even go up the trail to the lake!, it's so amazing up there Lame! LOL That said, my father is from the area, and lived in PSG for a long time, before the family moved south. He took my brother and I on several trips back to PSG, which inspired me to embark on several years of working the summer Salmon Purse Seine seasons. I absolutely love SEAK, Petersburg in particular.... Question to anyone who may know, who might have sent shots across the bow of our 16ft skiff headed up the mouth of Petersburg Creek around July of 2003? (and yes, I mean exactly what I said, G**** shots....) Kupreanof wasn't so friendly that particular year, but never had an issue since.... Nonetheless, I love PSG, I love SEAK, and the region will always be in my heart and home.
