This was so beautiful from start to finish...all the tall trees and ferns 💚 I've never looked into Alaska at all, and I'm so glad you've shown so much of it's natural terrain in this series. It doesn't look at all as I expected - I think I was just thinking about glaciers or something like that. But in this forest you can see what happens when nature takes its course and is left alone to do so - all the huge tree bases uprooted by who knows what (storms? disease?). I used to see that in Louisiana all the time after hurricanes, but they were cleared away within a few weeks or months. But not in this forest - it's just incredible to look at. A small maritime town with no roads sounds about as good as it can get (imo)....loved the sweet little seal (?) at 7:00...what treasures Daniel and Bobby were, being able to talk with someone who'd been the mayor there had to be seriously gratifying, priceless. Did you happen to see any seaplanes while you were there? Thank you for this video, and the entire series, I love that it's so authentic, rather than leaning towards "touristy".
@TravelwithaWiseguy5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! Those trees were really interesting and looked like they had been laid over for a long time. A visit to the Chamber Office in Petersburg would have provided much more information to prepare for your excursion over to Kupreanof. For instance, when visiting a rainforest - you need boots and a waterproof jacket, maybe a hat! Exposure can be an issue if you're not prepared! Also - did Bob mention the fox farms? And Tlinget.... is pronounced Clink-it the Tl sound is a hard K or hard C sound. Nice overview, but so much more is available to learn....
@TravelwithaWiseguy3 ай бұрын
Yes I did visit the Chamber in Petersburg as well as the museum. And I emailed the Kupreanof city clerk, called the office numerous times. Actually, the smallest town here in Alaska would be the town of Chicken, with a year round population of 12.

I lived in West Petersburg from 1968 thru 1981 which is long before they rail roaded the second class city in there and started calling it Kupernof. It was far better back in them days and i for one will never go there to visit for any reason what so ever. They said to preseve their way of life but how about all the people that were there before they showed up.

You didn't even go up the trail to the lake!, it's so amazing up there Lame! LOL That said, my father is from the area, and lived in PSG for a long time, before the family moved south. He took my brother and I on several trips back to PSG, which inspired me to embark on several years of working the summer Salmon Purse Seine seasons. I absolutely love SEAK, Petersburg in particular.... Question to anyone who may know, who might have sent shots across the bow of our 16ft skiff headed up the mouth of Petersburg Creek around July of 2003? (and yes, I mean exactly what I said, G**** shots....) Kupreanof wasn't so friendly that particular year, but never had an issue since.... Nonetheless, I love PSG, I love SEAK, and the region will always be in my heart and home.
