The people in SL are super chilled, super kind and easy going. It's very safe and a million, million miles away from the chaos of Pakistan, Bangladesh or India. Sri Lanka is a totally different vibe and a lot of this is rooted in their rich history. Glad you both had a good trip. The news always only reports the negative stories as that's what gets eyeballs but never returns later to follow up so to anyone with limited travel experience, the 24/7 mainstream news presents a totally misleading picture.

I was there ten years ago, not long after a civil war ended. Most of the war was in the northern part. In colombo, Kandy, galle and beach areas, very safe and beautiful. Food was delicious. Very impressive.
