When I came to the the Forbidden City in China 15 years ago when I was 18 that was the most eye opening experience of my life. China is so amazingly beautiful and my next destination will be China in the near future for sure. Me and my brother who studied there went to the club on a monday and a street vendor opened his stall up on a random monday night selling us everything he had and I ate everything and it was fucking delicious and so so so life changing. Wow it's so crowded now there in 2024 I was one of the only people there with my brother and his friend from Beijing student friend. Crazyyyyy

When you communicate with the local Chinese people, ALWAYS use translator. No point asking them questions in English. I suggest that you get a separate translator for ease of use instead of using your phone's translation apps. You're to carry your passport all the time. It could be used as your ticket, especially to train stations.

Oh, 'low crime does not mean NO crime' - even in a safe country like China, it is always good to maintain a healthy dose of common sense and situational awareness but I am happy that you view the large number of CCTVs with an open mind and positive attitude. Personally, I think the greatest dangers of living or travelling in China are 1) overspending on the countless variety of foods and getting fat, 2) overspending on the affordable gadgets, goods etc and 3) being hit by one of the large number of extremely quiet electric scooters coming from behind.

Just a suggestion, if you buy 4 of those beans buns in a box from a start of the video, if you cant eat them, throw away the one you ate and try to find those cleaners in the street, they would love them with a bottle of water. In mainland China we dont throw away foods. You can download a app that will translate your English to Chinese if you speak to locals and you can download a app that show what type of drinks or foods it is by pointing your phone on the picture or menu - Gave fun China, love from Macau, China.

Glad to see the problem with the didi was resolved. The driver was trying to tell you you put in the wrong destination the whole time and because of the language barrier, it didn't come through soon enough :D 21:18 the shopkeeper was saying you needed to put in the password :D Once it's done it's good to go. Dont' worry. It takes a few tries to get it right.

China is one in our bucket list. I can understand the frustration on the language barrier. I was just in Argentina couple of weeks ago and I had a hard time with the language barrier. it was a pretty cool place, our first time in South America but I would of enjoyed it more if they spoke more english. From my understanding, even if they did they don't like to speak it from the history they had with the British. Nice video Chris thank you. I would definitely want to see the Great wall of China and the food China has to offer.

You were right in guessing that the elderly taxi driver was trying to tell you that you had incorrectly set your destination during your booking although he understood where you intended to go. I suppose the difference would have affected the eventual fares that you paid or the extra travel time he had to spend ferrying you.

@@PhilipOberg because online shopping, takeaway, APPs are very popular in China. these scoots are used to delivery the food and goods between the store and resident community. in most of big cities in China, once you place order through APP for food. it just take less than 30 mins to get your takeaway and the devliry cost is very cheaper. when people stay at home and enjoy the convenience of the delivery, they can't complain how dangerous of these scooters.
