I've lived in Argentina and in Europe, and often I read that Argentina is a bit of Europe in South America, but immediately I think it's great that it's only 'a bit of Europe,' because it's that blend that makes Argentina special. In Argentina, there's still empathy, you still see children and lots of young people, pets are important but... less important than children, people still ask you 'How are you?'. That's the beauty of Argentina. If you're just after architecture, go to Europe. This is something else, a mix that's hard to find elsewhere.

@@Huguillon Every country in the world has people who live outside the capital city or main state/province and harbor a bias against those who live there. This bias is generally unjustified and irrational. Capital cities tend to be "nicer" for very objective reasons: more people live there, more resources are allocated there, which results in greater cultural influence and options. Harboring a bias against people living in the capital does not make you smart or special; on the contrary, it just makes you a bitter person looking for conflict where there isn't any.

Oh boy, do I relate. I arrived in BA in 1982 to teach English on a 6-month contract, and I stayed for 32 years! Every six months I'd start planning my return to the US, but there was always something holding me back, nothing I could put my finger on, some kind of magic. I didn't like the summers, but as soon as the weather got cool, I just had to stay for another fall and winter. And the men... I had three long-term (and I mean LONG term) relationships. Real men, not afraid of commitment or expressing their emotions. Such a rare gene pool and heritage mix. There was always something going on in the city. Opera, concerts, parties, cruising, art, new friends. I don't live there anymore, but I'll always cherish the memories.

He is a big soccer celebrity there. The city is beautiful! . The Argentine men are gorgeous! No joke! I was turning my head all the time when walking in the streets of Buenos Aires. LOL... Anyway I visited too many places but one thing that I never forget is the cemetery where Eva Peron was buried. A lot of history there. Also Casa Rosada tour. Have you try the famous Alfajores Havanna? If not, you must! "It's a pastry made with cookies and creamy dulce de leche caramel. Can't wait to see your next video in Argentina!

You now Travis we porteños use a word to describe our relationship with BA, "nostalgia". Though every porteño will describe it differently, to me, nostalgia is a mix of sweet old memories that are gone with your confidence about good things to come, despite the difficulties of life. I think BA, maybe like no other city in the world, makes that feeling possible. I think you do not need to be born in BA to be a legit porteño, but you need to understand nostalgia. If any day of your life, you find your self leaving BA, and while you are on the cab to the airport, you start to feel a tiny sensation in your belly growing up to the heart, and that feeling tells you that maybe you don't want to leave, maybe you stayed enough in BA to feel nostalgia.

Your final thoughts relate to a mixture of things and feelings you get when you're in Argentina (not just Buenos Aires but any province in Argentina). There's both a sense of hapiness or just living life outside on the streets, sharing your time with others, talking face to face with friends and family but also a bit of melancholy as well. There's 'something in the air' that is truly hard to describe. I'm from Cordoba city (province of Cordoba) and my experience is similar to yours. I always enjoy my short 2 / 3 day trips to Buenos Aires just because there's an endless list of places to visit and things to do but I like my city better as it's a little less chaotic and crazy to me. There are a ton of cool neighborhoods to explore…I have spent months in BA and didn’t come close to seeing it all. But I really like the Belgrano/Colegiales area for living. I live here and I love it!!!- for 30 odd years now as a immigrant (not consecutive years). The Rural has wonderful events- The largest book fair in the world (April), and the equivalent of a country state fair (the end of July, first of August). My favorite scene is to sit on 9 de julio and watch the lights come on at night, or early in the morning and watch the sun come up. Seeing the sun come up on the Rio de la Plata on the Vicente Lopez beach area is another spectacular view. Finally, other interesting things to do are to take tours of old buildings, take in all the beautiful sculptors and have a coffee every afternoon in a different neighborhood. You will get a feel that way of all the different immigrants, social classes, and listen in on conversations.

Im from BA. One video that could be interesting and could work well for people is the different neighborhoods of the city. That is something special from Buenos Aires because each one is very different. From San Telmo or Monserrat (downtown) to Palermo, Recoleta and Belgrano, to the more family oriented like Caballito, Colegiales, Villa Crespo or Chacarita. And the ones that foreigners dont know but are beautiful like Villa Devoto, Núñez, Couhglan or Ingeniería. I dont know if you are still in the city but if you ever come back, just walking around its barrios is an activity itself. I live in Caballito by the way, on an avenue called Pedro Goyena.

I love the vibe of Buenos Aires. People are very open and inviting. Plus you have so many things to do and see. Great food, beautiful architecture and amazing public transportation. Of course, like in most big cities all across the world, some areas are a bit sketchy but in general I feel safe walking and moving around. Nightlife is insane, especially if you’re not a night owl 😄

👏🏽 I may have to add this to my list for the end of 2024 to early 2025. I'm still doing Europe but adding more. Curtains parts of this video reminded me of when I lived in Mexico City, yet some areas looked much newer and more progressive. As for those double decker busses that is what my everyday travel bus is like here in Scotland. It's lovely to ride along the coast on the bus or on the trains and watch nature. Train travel around other parts of Europe is so lovely and dog friendly. Safe travels Travis. 🙏🏼

This just showed on my recommendations and it made me emotional. I'm from Buenos Aires, and it always makes me happy when people see the beauty in this city. I think most porteños will tell you they have a love-hate relationship with Buenos Aires, but every time I'm hanging out at a bar, a park or a cafe I remember why I love it. Our economic situation clearly makes things difficult, and our country is far from perfect, but it makes me sad that a lot of people from here thinks we suck because of it. I wish they knew that not everywhere in the world you can meet a stranger, tell them you're from another country, and they will welcome you with arms wide open. That not everywhere in the world you can make friends overnight without fear of judgement. Bad leaders do not equate to bad people. I'm glad you enjoyed our city, and if you decide to stay here, I hope you can build something beautiful!

Right, so if you're staying I might recommend a couple of tours. Go to Retiro train station and take the Mitre line, make a stop in Vicente Lopez and take a walk around, then stop in Olivos, same thing. Finally go to the end of the line to Tigre and take a boat tour and walk around. Maybe one day is not enough for all that, but you should check it. And since you're here you can't leave without visiting the cities of Mar del Plata, Pinamar, Cordoba, Salta and Mendoza. In that order, maybe Mendoza before Salta. Completely different vibes but as charming as B.A. Cheers

I've noticed in comments an interest in looking for similarities between Buenos Aires and CDMX, but they're tiny.... Buenos Aires is not only different from CDMX and the rest of Latin America (we can extend this difference with Latin Amercia to a large part of Argentine cities) but to reference it u gotta look at great capitals of Western Europe, and it's no coincidence... Buenos Aires is nicknamed "Paris of America" and making history: In mid-19th century, Paris was demolished and rebuilt as we know it today; in the same way, shortly after, Buenos Aires was also demolished and rebuilt in the image of Paris, with its architectural styles of that time: beaux arts/academicism-art nouveau /deco and the layout of large boulevards/avenues/diagonals and proliferation of parks, like Paris.... regarding urban beauty, among major metropolises of the world, just Paris and London r at same level as Buenos Aires. If yu wanna have an idea of the urban environment of Buenos Aires, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2i3iJl6e9GGnJY kzbin.info/www/bejne/qX3PfYWrd5ualdk kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIHdd6l-nLGBgqc kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5bcaI14bqmHZ6M

Interesting, I didn't know that Paris was the intent when Buenos Aires was rebuilt. Mexico has more than CDMX. Zacatecas, among other cities, is a very colonial city. So, very Spanish but not French. As you go to the northern Mexican states, there's more of European influence. Guadalajara, for example, has people that trace their lineage to Spain and France. Just wondering, what projected France onto Argentina?

Cause it seems to me you 've already visit the entire city , I recommend you to visit Salta and Jujuy provinces (in the north of Argentina, desert), also Iguazu falls in Misiones province (tropical jungles). The lake region in the beginning of Patagonia, Bariloche + Villa La Angostura + San Martin de los Andes , connecte by the 7 Lakes route. Afterwards you have to consider Perito Moreno glaciar, on El Calafate.... simply amazing... And if you have more time I would recommend you Catamarca, Mendoza (the wine province). There is more to visit, but with thes tips you have enough for the beginning,,,, J

My favorite place to eat is Pizzaria " La Torre" close to the Clock Tower at Retiro Train Station and the Sheraton Hotel. Like to sit a have a white pizza with olives on it and either a bottle of Malbec wine or a big bottle of Quilmes beer. I think some of the waiters are the same as when I was there a lot in the 80's! Also if You like a nice bottle of Malbec there is a delicious one that is called " San Telmo" just like the area that You stayed in. Also a great restaurant in San Telmo is "Desnivel" ( unlevel in English). Heard a rumor that Argentina might be changing to the US dollar as it's official currency like Equador.........Don't know if that is true or not ? Happy travels might run into You somewhere in the World someday.

El Desnivel is a great place still nowadays, we porteños reckon it belongs to the glorious category of a Bodegón (Tavern)
