An interesting insight into pressure vessel fabrication in our yard at Ras Al Khor, Dubai, UAE - a number of days work speeded up and condensed into this short video. The video includes rolling of shells and cones as well as fit-up and welding, using the SAW(submerged arc welding) process with a column and boom welding manipulator.

You have to develop out the correct shape, then use pyramid rolls with an idler roll to keep the radial lines parallel with the top roll.

Lee Andreas Submerged arc welding refers to a process whereby the weld pool is covered by flux. Underwater welding is a different beast altogether. I hope this helps.
