Travis Konecny’s Contract and Matvei Michkov’s rookie expectations | PHLY Sports

It’s been a pretty crazy week for the Philadelphia Flyers, especially considering it’s mid/late July.
So Charlie, Kelly and Bill are foregoing SOME of the usual F-Around Friday shenanigans to finish off the week’s major conversations.
First, we get into the Travis Konecny contract extension some more, and then we’ll talk about setting realistic expectations for Matvei Michkov’s rookie season, by looking at the best Flyers rookies of the past as comparables.

They HAVE to name it after Ed Snider. Would be the ultimate classy rebrand. Call it Snider Arena or Snider's Place, or something like that. Comcast doesn't need naming rights money. That won't mean much when he's 32 and can't score more than 40 pts and he's on the book for 8.75 for 4 more years. Along with Coots AND Sanheim making 8+ mil as well. I like TK a lot dude. But he does not fit in with what the team should be doing man

⁠@@kod8933 yeah wanting to be here is great and all but 8.75m when he’s 34 is going to be a pain. That’s franchise / superstar territory. Gonna be tough finding space for TK, michkov, a good defensemen, a good center (which they need), and a better starting goalie. All of this while they’re already over the salary cap.

A creative concept with the Spectrum part of the name or title of the arena would be ok. They renamed Boston Garden the TD Garden and now a lot of folks are calling it the Garden again. Yeah some folks might get mad or aggravated but most should be ok with it.

I still think the best way to build a team is from tanking. I know it is not popular, but when you look at all of the teams who have won Cups since 2009, with the exception of 2011 Boston and 2019 St Louis, they all had one or more influential players taken in the top of the draft. We have Michkov. That's it. With our current strategy, the team will finish 5th to 10th worse. We will not get the high end players we need not drafting in the top 3.

The way Charlie thinks about this rebuild and TKs contract, is the same way the oilers drafted 1st, 1st, 1st, 7th, 3rd, 1st, 4th from 2010 to 2016 and didn't do anything till 2022 but still hasn't won the cup even tho they have THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE. tanking is just as big a gamble or bigger. This just in the flyers have signed the team skate sharpener to a 12 year 84 million dollar contract..........which they will opt to buy out of next week. No contract should be longer then 4 years.............i love the flyers but they have learned NOTHING....... every contract like this has been a disaster.

$8.75 million AAV is gonna be a bargain in two years when he's putting up 90-100 pts. Plus they never would have got the return value in a trade.

I don't think he'll be a 90 point guy consistently but I could totally see him have a couple over the course of this contract (depending on how much talent they add) Depending on how much talent is added I also wouldn't be surprised if he has a Zack Hyman type season in there where he really pops off for like 52 goals or something. I think this contract will age better than a lot of online fans think it will

If he is a center or defensemen I say yes for 8 years not for a winger especially a right winger a position the Flyers have depth and good future, I like Konecny he' s a top 6 but not a dominent player 🤷🏒🤔

If Foerster or Tippett step Up and become very good top 6 they Wil regret the 8 years for Konecny, at the same age Tyson Foerster is better than Konecny more complete and bigger player
