I will not disagree with your sentiment at all. But I've always felt that you get more answers from a living shooter than a dead shooter. Though at this point, it's obvious we aren't getting even that from the living shooter, because "law enforcements don't know".

Look, long distance truckers normally carry fire arms in their cabs. Gate security checked the cab and found it. The reason he was arrested for it is because NY has hyper-sensitive gun laws that aren't rational. Why he didn't report the fire arm before they searched, I don't know, but they should have just confiscated it and turned it back over to him as he left post after delivering his load.
