The official music video kind of explains what going on. The person in the song is about a paralyzed military veteran who had all these plans before the war and now doesn’t want to his medical burden on his woman so he is pretending not to love her anymore. This is the first of 3 music videos that tell the story of this paralyzed soldier and if you look it up it’s a tribology that all tied it together.

I love this trilogy. You really need to watch the three videos to understand the meaning. He pushed her away he was paralyzed in the war but realizes that he can’t pretend that he doesn’t love her anymore. Even if you watch them just for yourself you will appreciate it

I saw Travis in concert in Grand Junction, CO in the late 90's and he was the headliner at Country Jam. It was late at night, under the Colorado sky. He was slated for an hour or so and he was still playing 2 hours later, he just would not quit. He had a blast, we had a blast! He's a genuinely nice guy!

Travis Tritt has an amazing amount of songs that you can react to. You definitely need to do the other 2 songs in this trilogy, Tell Me I was Dreaming and If I Lost You. I also recommend the song "Can I Trust You With My Heart" from him. He is amazing artist, and there are not many songs I don't enjoy from him.

I was in Myrtle Beach for bike week around 2009. Saw him at the House of Blues. We knew the ones doing security and ended up sitting in the concert box ,right stage, behind the curtain. Got to watch them do final set up. His manager actually came over and chatted for a bit. Said usually the box was for Travis' family /friends but he was only doing the one show so none were with him. One of the best concerts this old Canadian boy has been to. Oh...glad you enjoyed our whiskey🥃

Thanks! I saw the kids' ages and started to have a very typical American reaction along the lines of "OMG YOU LET KIDS DRINK WHISKEY!!!" But then I remembered that German culture on alcohol is really nothing like Americans. We're silly about it. Germans drink much younger, and much more responsibly as a rule. @@BourbonCountryReacts , oh I didn’t think of that. Sorry. 😉 Yeah it’s not a big deal here and with parental guidance the kids are allowed to drink alcohol at 14 years old. And let’s be honest, they took like two little sips each, made a face, and said they liked it. 😂 At 16 years old they are allowed to drink and buy beer and wine without parents. And we are from Bavaria so beer is considered more like food. For our kids it’s great watching you. They can practice their English skills and I’m happy that I don’t have to listen to one of their crazy loud metal bands all the time. 😂 I just hope that I don’t have to share my bourbon with our kids from now on. 😉

From the many times I've heard the song on the radio, I've always interpreted it as a man who is in denial of his failing marriage and finally comes to terms with it. In my head I've heard it as "I'm tired of pretending [comma] I don't love you anymore. I don't think I've ever seen the mysic video or the "sequel" videos and now I'm gonna have to go check those out.
