Let's take a look at how you can set up your Sode Tsurikomi Goshi with ease! This type of set up is for the same sided judo players. In my case, I'm going to be doing it Right on Right! Judo is a very dynamic sport that has many different types of setups and entries. This setup is for levels of judo players!

Awesome video. Appreciate the level of detail on the how and why when executing the throw. Please do more of these "So simple a white belt can do it" series. Thanks for putting the tape back on the tatami, makes it easier to visualize the direction of the entry to the throw and the direction of the throw.

I think it might be time for a custom mat that has the lines on it already this way I dont ever run out of tape. Also I like the idea of a so easy a white belt could do it series

Yeah I can be a challenge. Most people tech it wrong so it can be hard to learn. It more important that you learn when to do it not just how to do it.

After watching the video a bunch of times. It would be great if you could do that basic sode video you mentioned. I'd really like to improve the sode and every little bit helps

Thanks for this video! I just feel that sode is often easy to spot and anticipate for the opponent (with the double sleeve grip), so doing it in 2 steps gives them even more time for that. Any thoughts on how to hide your intentions?
@counterhit121
@counterhit121 Жыл бұрын
Noob question: why would be in that position (RvR with opp having a rear hand straight lapel grip)? Only scenario I can visualize is that opp makes that grip immediately after we catch his sleeve as a preventative post against our power hand getting a grip. Follow-on question: if we want to sode a cross collar grip in RvR, would we want to switch to left foot forward and repeat the pull, pull, go motion in this vid?

What do you think of kake whereby you bow straight down as Shinjiro Sasaki shows his sode tsurikomi goshi? With the kake that you show in this video, I can’t quite get a long enough rotation to get a strong throw, more of just load on the hip and slip them off. The coaches at my dojo always tell us not to do the one as Sasaki shows it because it’s dangerous but I feel like it’s a better throw. What’s your take on it? Try to keep doing the one you showed here until I get used to it, or just go for the bow straight down version?
@TravisStevensgrappling
@TravisStevensgrappling 4 жыл бұрын
I'm also not a fan of the bow straight down version not because it's dangerous I just feel it's less effective. If your partner is sliding off it's because they are not loaded on your hip right. I will shoot a video on this and explain the difference in detail.
@juyama7489

Travis Stevens I’ll be looking forward to it! I’m usually able to load and carry the uke on my hip but have the trouble in range of motion while dumping him off. I really appreciate your help.

Kind of an odd question, but do you find sode is hard to hit with people in BJJ because of the cut of the gi? Judo gis have a lot more material and slack in the sleeve compared to the lightweight BJJ gis.

You mention that your opponent is posting hard on with the left hand. Is there anything else that you're doing to break the grip? If he's got such a good grip, doesn't that hurt your ability to rotate and enter?
@TravisStevensgrappling
@TravisStevensgrappling 4 жыл бұрын
The more your opponent stiffens up the easier it is to enter. I know that doesn't really makes since but it will when you try it! Also the Ko Ouchi can break just about any grip.
