My coach has a funny story about No. 3. He trained in Japan in the 70s and 80s. One night at the Kodokan there weren’t many people there, but there was this middle aged guy he didn’t know. My coach, young and cocky, asked him to randori. Coach was thrown with this combo within seconds, and then proceeded to be thrown at will, up and down the mat, for the rest of the time with his feet barely touching the mat. The “middle aged guy” was Okano. Coach said Okano was by far the most skilled judoka he’s ever played (including other Olympic and World champions). So my coach always teaches that combination.

Three times Okuri Ashi Barai. Ko Uchi & O Uchi can be performed as a barai technique. Technically, according to judo, Ko Uchi Gari & O Uchi Gari are not sweeps. Anyway, great techniques, perfectly demonstrated! Lovin' it!

I started to follow Travis during Covid19 days and certainly will put some of his takedowns and sweeps in my Jiu Jitsu game when I return to train. Definitely. This 1st foot sweep is a gem.

I spent the last two classes training that first one, and was able to hit it in randori last night on a significantly heavier nidan. Thanks!

Awesome video Travis I love it! I try and use all of these in order to set up my throws! I personally have been working on using threatening with the first one you showed in order to set up a really big o soto gari from a high collar grip!

That´s really nice, the names are strange to me however. 1. Okuri Ashi Barai 2. Okuri Ashi Barai 3. Okuri Ashi Barai 4. Ko Uchi Barai 5. O Uchi Gari indeed. That´s how I would name them.

Hey Travis I was just wondering if you prefer the Greek overhook or the Russian grip. Thanks.
@TravisStevensgrappling4 жыл бұрын
I prefer the Russian grip! But I use the Greek over hook often during Randori. I try to never be in either and just win the gripping battles.

The most difficult throw is foot sweep. That timing is difficult to find and open the attack.
@TravisStevensgrappling4 жыл бұрын
It can be but like anything else with practice it can become easy.
@clacicle4 жыл бұрын
True, but that is why you practice. Break it down by moves and then put it together because when you pull it off, it’s amazing. Especially when it’s effortless. Practice, practice, practice.
