This is a great episode to understand that, right from the first word that Jane says from any episode, is him playing a game He sees the crime, and immediately comes up with multiple possibilities, and takes actions that can accommodate all possibilities. I love what he can do

10:25 It is a common misnomer that "assault" means that you hit someone. Assault is the act of threatening someone with violence and/or harm. Battery is the act of actually committing violence and/or harm on a person. Pulling a gun on somebody and pointing it at them would very much then be assault with a deadly weapon, even if you never pull the trigger. Most places might only charge you with "brandishing a firearm" in a case such as hers.

About the not leaving town thing....I don't think the police saying that has any legal force if there's no court order. But if a judge issues a court order for you to stay in the jurisdiction then leaving it likely means a warrant being issued for your arrest.

There's no such thing as the "24 hour rule". It's a common misconception. The faster you start looking for the missing person the better, especially if the disappearance is suspicious. If a police officer says that to you, they're just being lazy. No, the police can't do much unless the not leaving town was ordered by a judge, but you will become a person of interest if you leave the town for good and there's any evidence that might point towards you.
