The Rest Of The Story

4 жыл бұрын

Welcome back we've been waiting. It goes without saying that 2019 was a bit more challenging than usual. Now that's in the past and we are focused on going forward. Brittany and I have a new addition to our little family and we're constantly working to improve our efficiency on the farm. Our intern is tired of hearing me say it but the focus is to diversify and create multiple sources of income, makes more sense than putting all your eggs in one basket. So if you enjoy updates on the daily operations of a farm that's raising; cows, crops and kids stay tuned. I don't put a lot of time into editing my videos I try to keep them as raw and real as they are when they are filmed. I do tend to sit and explain what's going on and the reasons why we do what we do the way that we do it. Plus the occasional voice over video while the work is actively going on. So make sure to Subscribe, Like, and Comment if you want to stay up to date on our 2020 farm year.

A great teaching video and you did very well I must say. Your knowledge comes from using the different products. You are not condemning any of them just what you think in one way or another what you like and why. I am not a farmer but enjoy watching your videos. Thanks Travis for how and what you do to help other young farmers.

Liked, viewed, comment, Down Hill videos????, if this is down hill, I don't think I could stand the up hill information/ clarity, passion of your work and the pride you try to do not only on the field work and Farming in general, but the part of this that takes you away from your family, just do your stuff, try to block the idiots out and go for it, I see it this way, your going to get what you can with what you have, if its not enough for some, fine, go find something that is, I don't see them out there trying, OK, need to go, Later, I'll always watch, you put it out there, I'll come see,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas. Sounds like you have some valid points behind your ideas, looking forward to seeing what you decide to do next year. From the start is was thinking you might want the metal wheels on the outer rows and the plastic as long as they last on the inner rows. The chains sound like an interesting option since they might have a similar affect to running the harrow over them as you did this time. Stay safe, wishing you and your family the best.

Maybe an idea is to reverse the plastic and metal closing wheels after each planting season to balance wear. The chains sound like a really good idea. Nice video as always. Stay safe covid-19 Keep up the good work.... 👍👍

I have the exact same planter and I put copperhead closing wheels on two years ago. I added drag chains behind the closing wheels. They came straight from John Deere and I don’t have a single problem now they seal everything right up.

Hey Travis, you should look the yetter 6200 twister cast closing wheels. They are completely made out of metal and are designed like the copperhead closing wheels.
@matt56849
@matt56849 4 жыл бұрын
I would second that if he wants metal. We use the plastic yetter twisters, for 2 seasons on 1250ac, and almost no wear. We are no till, in the Loess Hills near Sioux City, IA, so we contour farm most everything because of terraces you HAVE to. I’m just curious if Travis got the instructions and spacers for the Copperheads, our older Copperheads and the new Yetters wanted spacers and such to get a 1.25” gap from the closest point between the spikes, and put them into the rear hole on the closing wheel frame.

We run spiked closing wheels and have the chains behind them, I’m about ready to rip all the chains off because when opening up a field if you back up into a corner and grass or weeds push the chains forward when you set the planter down it grabs the chains and bends the bars the chains are fastened to

Would running the metal wheels on the outside couple rows (the ones you mentioned as having more problems) and sticking with the stock plastic inside be happy medium? At worst you could always add the inside rows at a later date and spread out the expense over a couple of years.

I'm not knocking John Deere but, in my opinion Case IH has a better design with the closing discs. I always see on KZbin people complaining about the closing wheels on the Deere. We run Case IH and are always very pleased with the results. I also live in the driftless area but in eastern Iowa.

Drag chains so you might not have to harrow your beans?
@lukestrawwalker

They harrow the beans to level off the field... the middles between rows are still gonna be unlevel compared to where the planter row unit gauge wheels run and the planter tires tend to push soil up on either side... Later! OL J R :)

Hey Travis I want to start my message by saying I’m not a scammer or blowing smoke. I farm down by Shullsburg wi. We tried schlagels on our kinze 3700 a few years back. We went a different route with closing wheels and we were unable to return our schlagels to our dealer. He was being a turd and didn’t want them back. Our schlagels have been in a shed in the original packaging since. We have 10 because our neighbor borrowed one row to “ try” them and never returned and I don’t think we ever got paid. If you’re interested message me back. Like I say I’m not a scammer. Long time viewer of your channel and we just want to get rid of them and make some money back. The wheels have 50 acre on them.
