They have murdered the decent down to Capel. Used to be one of my very favorite bits of riding. I've lost count of how many times I've ridden it.

It was the first time I’ve ridden it to be honest. But I can see what you mean. It doesn’t have any character at all. Reminds me of what they did to Helvellyn and Sticks pass in the Lakes. Just a flat 4ft wide gravel track. Maybe it’s worn down now but it feels so uninspiring. 😢

Great series of videos. I'm looking at this for next year. Ridden a few short sections before, but found these really useful to get an idea of the actual trails.

Wonderful capture...but...the twisted strap on your handlebar bag was doing my head in😱🤣

🤯😂 Ha, yeah I know what you mean. I noticed that too. My handlebar bag was just slightly knocking and that did my head in as I was editing. Not so bad while actually riding. Just editing a Cairngorms trip and there’s an annoying noise where my Jacket was touching my GoPro. Had no idea while I was riding…. 😬

I really enjoyed the videos. Thanks so much for filming and sharing. Where you finished the ride doesn't matter in the slightest. It's that adventure between points A and B that matters.

Thanks so much, glad that you liked them. I agree, it sounds a bit cheesy but it really is about the journey. I love the freedom of being on a multi day or week adventure. Life is simple and all the better for it. 😍

Nice series of videos that give a good sense of the character of the route - Thank you very much. I think i can follow most of your route - shame you didn't make it to Conwy, but you took on a lot of climbing by going around Crafnant. Running out of time to do it this year, but will hopefully do it next, but take 4 days over it and stay in B&B.

Thanks man, glad they were helpful. Think I might go back at some point and do the official route without all the extra climbing!! It’s a nice route and seems to be very popular. 4 days would be a nice pace, you’ll get to take in all the great views. Best of luck and hope you get good weather when you do it. 🤞

Well done - a very entertaining video. I would have liked to have seen you introduce yourselves at the start of Day 1 and show more of the gear you were using such as bikes, tents etc. Similarly, at the end it would have been nice to see you arrive and get off the bike and show both of yourselves and then the three of you with Ash. Would you bikepack it again of treat yourselves to b&b? Do you think this route could be done without any suspension even if it means walking the bike down the trickier bits? Well done for persevering with the bad weather at the start - impressed. I look forward to your next trip.👍

Thanks phil. They’re all good points. I have been trying to get a bit more off the bike footage but honestly I often forget to record stuff. Especially at the end of the day after we’ve set up camp. Hoping to get a drone next year too for some different shots. I just try and improve my editing with each video, it feels like I’m heading in the right direction. But can always learn more!! May well ride it again in the spring with another friend. Will stick to the official route next time and see what the difference is. I prefer to wildcamp if possible, just means you can stop where you like. Richard was riding a fully ridged bike on this trip with plus size 29er wheels. Seemed ok. Just finished editing the first part of a double loop of the Cairngorms, should be up in a couple of days. Cheers.😁

Can I ask who you used for your trip back to the start of the route? Thanks for the video!
@david-pascoe

Yes, we used Steve’s Taxi for our lift back to the start of the route. He was patient with us as we had to change times on him and I’d recommend him for the drive back. He’s a good guy. His email is stevestaxicab26@hotmail.com. Hope that helps. 😁

Great series of videos thanks very much really well documented. Hope to do the trail somtime this year. Did u find good spots to camp on route, or was it few and far between. Thanks Dave
@david-pascoe

Thanks David. To be honest the camp spots weren’t the best for us as we were in the woods both nights. Just the way it worked out with our mileage each day. Did pass some better spots but not at the right time unfortunately. 😬

Beautiful. Thanks. Have you considered getting some Spyre grips for your handlebars? I think they would work well for your natural inclination to rest your hands on top of the grips.
@david-pascoe
@david-pascoe Жыл бұрын
Hey Kenny. Thanks for watching. Funny enough we have a big ride coming up next year and will be on the bike for a month probably. Have been looking at similar grips and inner barends. I do like resting my hands up and used to use bar ends back in the day. It’s nice to have a different hand position. You tried the Spyre grips?? 😁
@kennyness8881
@kennyness8881 Жыл бұрын
@@david-pascoe Yes. I use Spyre grips on my flat bar and alt bar bikes. They look like little Shrek ears just inboard from the grips, and I’d bet you would like having that little knob to hold on to since your hands are frequently on top of the grips. Plus, they are very inexpensive on eBay. As always, I look forward to your videos.

Great video. Maybe a little off piste from the designated route?
@david-pascoe

Ha, yes we did get a bit off course. We added a few bits that looked a good detour and made it harder for ourselves….. Probably riding the official route with a mate next spring so can see the difference. 😁

I’m sure you’d be ok. We added on a few sections that aren’t on the official route and they were some of the rougher trails. We didn’t actually pass anyone on a gravel bike for what that’s worth. 😁

Love the videos. Watched them at least 4 times over. It's very surprising how they have made parts of this route unrideable and requiring the cyclists to push their bikes up over the rocks etc. Considering this is a 3 day ride and carrying all your gear.

Hey Ricky. Bear in mind that we added some extra bits onto the official route. Most of the worst looking bits are not on the route. Best of luck with your trip and hope it stays dry. ☀️😇

Thanks dave much appreciated. I'm looking forward to it. Haven't been out for ages on the bike so test ride coming up. Start day 22nd. Love the camping. And the idea of carrying all your gear. And. If it rains well it rains lol. Last time I rode from calais to Gibraltar and that started in the rain

Just done this route and noticed one difference. The GPX we were following took up straight along the river from Betws to Capel Curig. Seemed to miss the up and down that you took.

Thanks for watching the video. Yes, we added some extra off road sections to our route. It definitely made it a bit tougher but overall it was worth it I think. Will go back and ride the official route at some point. Currently riding the GBdivide from north to south. Will be passing the Wales again soon. 😀
