Update!!! Hot Racing makes a 12mm to 17mm hex conversion using the existing 12mm hex as the adapter rather than a hex pin. I previously did not think anyone made such a thing. That is excellent news for me so I can use 1/8 scale truggy wheels etc. here is the link to a review on them. Friggen brilliant!
• How To Fit Hot Racing ...
Been happy with the GPM CVD's so far on my Traxxas Slash 4x4. Handles the monster torque of a 1/8th scale esc/motor combo upgrade I did recently just fine. Due to the absence of hex pins, a 17mm hub conversion is not possible. So far that is my only gripe of these axles.

Great to hear you’ve had success with them. I broke the pin that secures the shaft to the rear differential...I was running in subzero temperatures so everything is at greater risk of snapping.

GPM is really easy to break with bigger wheels. I have Badlands MX28 with 9T pinion and on 3s it almost 100% to break in few first bashing. On 2s least longer. I had 2 pairs and move back to TRA6852A, because frequency of breaking is almost the same but price is 4times less. Sorry for my bad English
@impossiblecrazyrc8299
@impossiblecrazyrc8299 2 жыл бұрын
The bigger wheels do put more strain on the driveshafts on bad landings. Make sure your slipper clutch is tight but loose enough to allow the driveshaft to rotate on hard landings. 😎
@martins2657
@martins2657 2 жыл бұрын
@@impossiblecrazyrc8299 it usually breaks when wheelie MX28. On 3S. Or some soft bash on 2S. Rater have TRX HD plastic ones. Which are much more cheaper. Slipper clutch i have tightened. Because usually using street tires Prime 2.8 which have less grip than the Badlands and allows drift. But i have broken this steel cvds also in standard tight/loose slipper clutch on 3S when soft bashing

Take the anodizing off with oven cleaner. Make sure it's the nasty, caustic kind and leave for 5 mins at a time, rinsing off with warm soapy water to neutralise acid. I did these to Traxxas TRX parts, GPM parts and some Rofun wheel nuts. The "bumpy finish" GPM parts came up perfectly after around 15 minutes (the polished finishes may need less time), the TRX parts are VERY thinly anodised and the oven cleaner burnt the aluminium black (this is fixed by rubbing with steel wool in warm soapy water and polishing the part) so I would recommend only 5 minutes at a time and checking, the Rofun wheel nuts were perfect after 10 minutes

The weight difference is noticeable when holding in your hand but I don't feel any difference in feel when driving. Actually weight in the shafts lowers your CG and will reduce your chances of a roll over. :)

I take back what I said in the past about these gpm axles. They suck in the long run, mine bind like crazy and i took good care of them too. I properly lubricated and did everything necessary to keep them running good. I just got to say it, they suck for long term use. I use mip x-dutys now. Edit: It turns out that I got ripoffs that were a close copy of the originals.

my only concern is how that extra weight effects everything else, it may not seem like much, but its extra strain on the bearings, diffs, center shaft, clutch, spur gear, pinion, and the motor. Just stuck a set on my slash, so this could end up being a very pricey experiment 😅
@impossiblecrazyrc8299
@impossiblecrazyrc8299 4 жыл бұрын
ManuelOrtizification I hear what you’re saying. The benefits outweighs the risks when using these CVDs over the stock ones IMO.
@ManuelOrtizification
@ManuelOrtizification 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they are pretty solid, especially when you put them next to the plastic shafts which will snap in a stiff wind 😂 I ran 4 3s 5200mAh lipos through the slash with them on the weekend. Beat the absolute crap out of the slash, they are holding up just fine and(so far) bearings and gears seem to be dealing with the extra load alright for the moment 😆
@impossiblecrazyrc8299
@impossiblecrazyrc8299 4 жыл бұрын
Also, setting the slipper clutch tight but not too tight so that it “gives” on the hardest of landings will help save your gears, CVDs, and everything in between.

Gotta keep an eye on the diff more than anything so far, seems to be where most of the strain is. Ended up packing my diffs with automotive grease to slow them down and smooth out the ride, has actually helped a lot.

Have a set of these in my 2WD Slash VXL. They are waaay better than stock, and much cheaper than the upgraded heavy duty traxxas items. They are heavier - true, and I have stripped the idler gear a few times in the gearbox through extreme abuse (think full throttle high speed runs with 28T high-speed pinion on tarmac with slicks, doing full throttle then full reverse to brake and stop crashing. Multiple runs before gear strip.) No issues from driveshaft under these conditions. I put this down more to the Hot Racing sealed diff I have in there where the teeth engagement is less than stock. Only issue I can see with these is the ‘balance’ - ie. When you have the car on a stand and hit throttle and watch the driveshafts = they wobble slightly as they are not perfectly in a straight line. Overall have run for a couple of years they have held up very well. Well worth the upgrade

If you're wondering about durability, I've got 2.8 Trenchers on Proline rims with a 1/8th Hobbywing esc/castle motor combo and the GPM's have held solid so far. But then again I don't bash as hard on this setup as I do with my SCT wheels on. If you got the SCT wheels on, you can bash your truck as hard as you want and these CVD's will take it. Cheers!

They do last and hold up much better than the stock shafts. I'm running a 1/8 scale Hobbywing power system and 2.8 Proline trenchers. So there's lots of torque and a lot of extra weight. The weakest link is the grub screw/pin that secures the shaft to the differential. I have snapped a couple due to bad one wheel landings. I bought 3 pairs from GPM to have in my toolbox. Only takes 3 minutes to repair and I'm back out bashing again. I adjusted the slip on slipper clutch and haven't broke yet on hard landings. Thanks for watching!

Today. I just broken another GPM... had 2 pairs of rear and its easy to break with Badlands MX28. Today it has been broken near wheel hub. But also near rear diff i had broken it in the past. Im moving to Traxxas HD plastic TRA6852A. Only reason is, these metal/aluminium are broken so often with the bigger wheels. And rather buy 2 pairs plastic every 2 months, then one pair of metal/aluminium

It looks to me like you got the Chinese version my friend I have the exact same ones same exact color.No numbers written on it only the letters GPMI can’t get the pin to stay in very poor design. It’s only as strong as its weakest link which is the pin connecting the ball to the cup.
