I'm from n.y..went to school in cali in the mid 80s and it was a culture shock....for me it had a 70s feel with the low riders and heavy funkadelic style music not to mention seeing Samoans and Mexicans(who treated me good) instead of Dominican and boriquas but after a few years I adjusted...cats gave me respect because I wasn't on that I'm a NY dude and fuck everybody else because that's what dudes did when they went down south but I can't front I miss the weather and the diversity...nor cal dudes had a different swag form so cal dudes and the everyday BBQS was bangin!! so personally that east west stuff was wack because I still have old friends and extended family back in LA. ..Stockton and the inland empire...and it did snow( actually it barely covered the ground) in October 86 but kids in my school was going crazy playing in it but yeah nothing beats that LA sunshine plus my year around tan...I didn't too much care for those Santa Anna winds tho but they beat the hell out of the ice and snow I came home to. oh yeah bumpin king-t while sippin gin and super socko was my shit!

I am from the east coast and love NYC rapping style. I am from Philly so we rap pretty much the same. When it comes to Hip Hop, New Yorkers are the Republicans of the Hip Hop community. Meaning they a narrow mind when it comes to something new. If everybody sounds like NYC, Hip Hop will be boring. However, if Los Angelas was affordable, would move out there in second because of the weather!

If he was talking about New York, then why have "east coast" in the title? I like how people think it makes sense to reduce an entire coast line to one city, a few cities or one region, as if southern California is the only area on the west coast and the more populated "north" eastern region represents the entire east coast. The warm weather,women and weed being exclusive to the west coast type argument only works if you completely exclude Washington, Oregon and northern California, while also ignoring the fact that Florida is on the east coast. Comparing New York with Los Angeles is not comparing the east coast with west coast. It's comparing two cities. All cities are different and each have attractive qualities that the other lacks. I don't see the big deal.

Meanwhile when west coast artist come to NY to make all these money they keep it on the hush. And this has been going on for a while, it started since cube and it goes all the way until recent acts like Kendrick and YG. The whole east coast hates us is by now a brand that many west coast acts use to sell records. Meanwhile they get more love in NY than in their own cities. Let me show you how crazy this whole subject is... who from New York is dissing the West Coast? The only problem ever is back when N.W.A. came out, they went against the grain of the "GODS" to promote negativity that still contaminates popular rap today. Ice Cube basically became Muslim once he realized the damage that he did. And MC Ren did become Muslim, promoting positive messages in his music after the damage had been done. But New York ain't into that Willie Lynch/crab in the barrel mentality. Each one teach one is our philosophy. So if you see your brother promoting some negative shit that he may not realize is gonna cause detrimental ramifications generations to come, you pull your brothers coat tail to the truth. And as we all know, many people can't handle the truth. All that theatrical shit is uncalled for. That's like respecting a two year old who curses people from the stroller. Weak.

Bragging about how NY artists wasn't selling platinum records like they were, of course you're gonna get artists to try to duplicate what the West was doing. Shit, "Ready To Die" is an East Coast parody of a West Coast album. Why do you think so many East Coast heads was upset with Puffy and Biggie for that shit. Chuck D for one wasn't happy! Big Daddy Kane, Rakim lost their spirit once they saw what Hip-Hop had become. Knocked the wind right out of them. Then that payola bullshit with record labels buying their own albums to forge sales. NaS "Illmatic" didn't even go Gold the year of it's release! Open your eyes my people! Y'all are being bamboozled! Hood winked! This is a war of consciousness or awarness! Wrong ! The west coast always had love for the East Coast, even when there was beef between Tupac and Biggie. Biggie was the best lyrical rapper period. And Tupac represented the west with heart and passion. But we still messed with Biggie even though he had beef with Pac. Then when other rappers started dissing each other, that's when it got real ugly. Pac still was down with Black Moon with buckshot, the dog pound was down with Wu Tang, and Mr. cheeks, Redman, Method Man, EPMD. They just didn't like Bad Boy.

Biggie only mentioned the "King Of New York" shit as a subliminal diss towards Nas.
@TheBeatKeeper8 жыл бұрын
***** Well, lot's of New York niggas do subliminal disses. They don't usually name names. West Coast though, niggas are the complete fucking opposite. That's why I had a different respect for them on that note.

{****Hmmmm ok. In Cali you got warm weather, women, & weed??? Ok. In NEW YORK CITY, we have plenty of women of different ethnicities and backgrounds as well, the weather can be cold or rainy or even warm but we can adapt to it, and we still have fun out here... I don’t smoke weed so you can have all that. But one thing that separates New York from L.A is that you can come here and Party and enjoy yourself without having to worry about wearing the wrong colors.....
@brandonn45534 жыл бұрын
In LA you gotta worry about what color you wear but in Ny you gotta worry about being robbed at gun point or shot at

California has brought to much to this game that NY doesnt recognize...the game started in 82 in Cali...I grew up on Too Short locally NWA and Ice T regionally and this debate is too old....Shit the East was doing they thang first but at that time they was like racist white people tryin to be prejudice about music. They didnt here of short until 1988 for this exact reason and he was runnin the Bay since 83. They wasnt tryin to here him... they was bumpin the Fatboys and shit.

Kurupt was all acting, not that he gives a fuck or something, he was just supporting Kendrick and emphasizing the pun : of course Kendrick knew that the line would be interpreted that way, even though it was obviously a publicity move, he fished Papoose and others with it But you got to give it up to Kurupt cause he wasn’t just acting as if he was mad : he was acting as if KURUPT was mad, and that’s an Oscar-winning performance, nobody else in the world can do that I don’t understand how he doesn’t get featured with main characters in blockbusters, maybe he doesn’t take this serious enough, and gets too much in these moonrocks
