It means something when you really from that city. Remember Eminem made a whole movie about how important it was that he was from a specific side of 8 Mile? That's 1 damn street! Dudes come from entire other states claiming they from the city would create problems back in the day. I moved when I was 10 and still claim the place I started at. Some of these dudes didn't keep it ALL THE WAY real (2 Pac, Kanye, Ludacris, Prodigy, Souljah Boy, Kurupt, Xzibit, etc) and instead of just telling the truth later play it off like it wasn't that important. If it wasn't why didn't they rap about they life in these other places? Cuz you know they was loud and proud about the places they "wanted" to be from!

2pac didn’t even move to California til he was like 16-17 so he was pretty much a grown man. But that is where he felt at home. Nobody chooses where they were born or raised but where you decide to make home is your choice. The vast majority of superstar LA rappers aren’t originally from LA...guys like Nate Dogg, Snoop, Daz Dillinger, Dogg Pound, etc all were either born or have immediate family from Mississippi. Very few major LA artists were actually born there. Same with Atlanta and most major cities. They single out certain artists like that but won’t do it to the major artists from that city that they’ve always jocked hard.
