Depends what state in texas its 5 - 99 years and you can easy get 75 in a trial .

They're called enhancement charges. That ten year sentence could easily turn into what amounts as a life sentence if you have prior charges, are gang affiliated, etc. In some states, they could add on even more years if you committed the crime close to a school, etc. The whole point of it is to get guys to cooperate, especially guys who can't afford good legal representation.

I knew a guy who got 20 years for armed robbery of a usps mail truck in North Carolina. No one died but the way it was explained to us was that since it was usps that’s a federal crime and instead of ten years, it being federal made it 20. The guy then died while in prison of cancer in a hospital bed with his right leg cuffed to the bed. And even after he died, he was still cuffed for an hour until a fingerprint tech got to the bedside to confirm he was who he was. Only then were the cuffs taken off. That right there made me never wanna commit crime cause I’ll be damned if I’ll die cuffed to a bed.
