Watching Duran stand in the ring against the world champion who is taller, heavier, more than a decade younger, and who's in peak physical condition, and Duran goes toe-to-toe with him for 12 rounds- _excelling in the final three rounds_ -demonstrates irrefutably that he is truly one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters- _perhaps the greatest_ -of all time. Words simply can't describe the respect and admiration I have for this man-what an inspiration!
@russellolenick56426 ай бұрын
I agree. He just is relentless. Totally relentless. Duran has great reflexes even at 37. He eluded a lot of Barkley's potential strong punches. Not all of course but enough to stay out of trouble. And then after using those split second reflexes he often came back with his best punches: Overhand rights. Barkley looked great most of this fight. He had a lot of good shots and tactics but the ultimate cumulative affect on Duran wasn't enough. Had this fight been a 15 rounder i believe Duran would have had a strong chance of knocking Barkley out. Barkley showed tremendous heart also. He just didn't get much momentum in any one stretch. Yes Duran coming on strong in the late rounds surely won him the fight. The big point spreads by all 3 judges was kind of weird. I'd say Duran won more like 115-112. His heart and his IQ just makes him a monster. He is the master at getting his rest in a few seconds at a time in the close quarters sections of the fight and literally mixes in some good punches to Barkley. Barkley gets some good shots too but Duran somehow minimizes them with his subtle movements. His chin of stone certainly helped him keep Barkley from gaining any momentum when Barkley connected good... Duran just came back again. He couldn't be overcome. What a great fighter!

@fakejameh12 күн бұрын
@@rafaelramirez1507 not sure where you got your information from. second hearns fight was scored correctly; barkley was the winner... he wasnt overrated at all, he avoided getting knocked out by duran for 12 rounds and in many peoples view should of been given this decision... barkley wasnt 19 losses now in this fight in his prime, he was the world champion. lmao. unless your comparing him to other 'world beaters' and super champions, by all measures he was a very good fighter. how could become a world champion if you arent any good? you obviously dont give him credit because hes facing duran and lost. you clearly might want to rethink your opinion... barkleys in alot of hall of fames and while he isnt considered one of the best fighters of all time, he was an extremely durable and hard hitting fighter, who certainly had alot of skills. you dont go 12 rounds with duran and beat hearns twice and just be mediocre. From BOXREC: Has a record of 3-6 (2 KOs) in World Title fights. Has a record of 4-8 (3 KOs) against former world titlists. Won against Thomas Hearns (twice), Darrin Van Horn, Gerrie Coetzee. Lost against Sumbu Kalambay, Roberto Duran, Michael Nunn, Nigel Benn, James Toney, Adolpho Washington, Henry Maske, Trevor Berbick. Kalambay, Duran, Nunn, Benn, Toney, Maske, Berbick.. They were all world champions and not only that champions who all had long reigns, and most of htose fights were huge money fights for barkley and his opponent... that sort of resume does not speak to someone who is 'average'. they were all established world champions including All time greats: Kalambay, Duran, Nunn, Benn, Toney, Maske, Berbick.. those names are among the most talented fighters who ever lived. and you want to claim barkley 'was mediocre' laughing my bloody ass off mate. go watch those fights, and maybe rewatch this fight without riding the Duran Fan train, and youll see barkley performed extremely well and could of even won the fight if it wasnt Duran- who then had a huge payday with sugar ray leonard 3 lined up for the middleweight championship of the world... A fight that generated lets see.. "A sellout crowd of 16,305 produced a gate of $9 million. Ticket prices were $800, $600, $500, $300, $200 and $100." Leonard made at least $15 million and Duran $7.6 million (and thats 1989 dollars btw which now is, $58,549,029.05 betwen the two of them). Leonard's purse from this fight made him the first boxer to earn over $100 million in his career. There is an argument that Duran could of been gifted a decision, considering the aforementioned. it is not rare or uncommon at all for robberies to occur when huge money fights are on the horizon between two champions.. you should maybe consider all that before coming on here blazing your facts and opinion at everyone like your an expert on boxing. also, if your going just on his 'record'. you should learn that many of barkleys losses came later in his career when he used his name to secure big paydays as a gatekeeper for up and coming fighters all over the world. although he didnt get title shots in those times, he would of lost many times because he was past his best or for other reasons. something else to consider: there was still commercial value in his name and he made the most of it to earn himself alot of money.

It was a draw the last round. No Domination. If he dominated he would have won

We are SO LUCKY to still have this legend with us after so many have passed. Only when he’s gone will his TRUE greatness be appreciated by everyone. A truly special fighter with one of the best chins ever and one of the biggest warrior spirits to ever grace the ring. The lightweight 🐐 and one of the true p4p all-time greats. 🙏🏼🥊

Jimmy Wilde was better....he just didn't have the T.V. Coverage...or even radio for that matter. So was Marciano....never beaten.

it's actually a mismatch, I don't think the promoters had the right mind doing the contract, but Duran is a great fighter who was at the top of the game despite his age....

If you don't do research....Henry Armstrong, Jack Dempsey, Barney Ross, Jimmy Wilde, and the man who never was beaten...Rocky Marciano were better. Also throw in Joe Lewis.
