When he said "Jared didn’t ask for it" and you can hear his voice breaking, you can tell he truly feels the pressure of expectation he’s under and it scares him a little bit. I love that Roy was able to let him know that the journey he’s on is his destiny and he can’t run from it. More is expected from him.🙏🏾

But perhaps Jared is close with mom and Roy knows that? Otherwise it's jumping to conclusions when you talk about another man's parents without not knowing if they have a tight relationship or are estranged.

Not Really Special cause he chose the weakest Heavyweight..... Tyson and Lennox were out there and Evander....... He chose Ruiz and subsequently his Ego to fight for Heavyweight belt then cut 20 lbs to be KO by Tarver.... Now he is punch drunk... Only picks fighters that he likes so he cant be fair..... Sad.

What are you talking about, most (all coaches in my case) have fought before and even still spar (if not too old) with their own fighters to show them first hand. May not be HOF Roy Jones, but they all were fighters (still are).

This was one of those rare landmark interviews with an up & coming generational talent. This kids not afraid of any man. This is scary because, like he said, he's just 23 & everything is changing for him at light speed. That makes ya dizzy. We tend to think that mastering your craft is the had part, but that's just the begining. The toughest part is dealing with everything that comes with it ! This kids got heart in more ways than one. It feels like he's another Joe Lewis to me. I can see him not only being the champ, but dominating the Heavyweight decision for as long as he wants, but he's gotta want it !

I know Roy and witnessed the pressure he endured and through it all he stayed humble and focused. Anybody that walked into the gym Roy was training in he acknowledged them and kept training. Roy was never too busy to talk to anyone that had a decent conversation. HE IS POURING LIFE EXPERIENCE INTO THE YOUNG GLADIATOR.

My man, he might be 23, but he's a man. Accountabilty and responsability can become such a heavy burden at times, but like RJ said "as a man has to saddle up and ride that horse". Whether a boxer or a brick layer, that feeling of "too much" always comes, fight through it till the end enough times, and one will become so confident in oneself and even a motivation to others! And by God there is not enough of these type of men with this "throw away get a new one" mentallity we have nowadays.
