The problem with TRC is not their high prices, the real problem is, that all their knives are perfect!!!

Excellent video Dave! I'm in need of some new high quality knives. I've been mostly buying cheap mora knives. Haha this knife looks really nice. Great review.

I tell ya David. You really know how to review gear. We always come away with so much information. I would like something like that. Depends on the task for my preference of grind. I’m not biased lol Thanks brother!!

Thank you for your video Dave. Unfortunately there are not enough reviews about TRC Knives in English and not many overall (I also found in Russian and German). TRC makes outstanding knives, Andrius Tricius is a perfectionist I could say and every knife made by TRC team has its own beauty and utility. Thank you again for review, it confirms what I felt about my Splinter 120 (actually I have two of them, a Lamnia edition and a green micarta, one for my wife and one for me).
@BushcraftDave6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, they’re perfectionists over there at TRC. I’m going to make more videos and feature the Splinter. I’m going a cooking video with it next! Thank you for taking the time to chat with me!

Otherwise my fav grind is the Scandinavian Grind. Most my knives are scandi. I find them easier to sharpen.

Very true, they bit into the wood really well too 👍.

Thank you Steve! It's my first time with Bohler m390, I've used other high end stainless before and it was really fun beating on the knife and seeing the toughness and edge retention. Best edge retention of any knife I own.

Thank you for the video! Like TRC very much. Here in germany, we have not so many dealers selling TRC. They are fast out of stock. At the moment it is available at Lamnia. But my budget is gone for the Giant Mouse Ace Biblio Micarta M390 folder(New EDC Folder) - Prefer Micarta, Full Flat Grind +M390 - so know the 120 as my most looked for combination since a few months. Full Flat (Casström No. 10, Spyderco PM2/Para3/Ace Biblio M390 Micarta) is prefered most of the times and Scandi only for wood splitting (Skrama+Enzo 70 Necker as EDC fixed) Fällkniven WM1 as my wifes fixed EDC is the only konvex Grind I am sometimes allowed to use. For sentimental issues there is a Esee 4 with sabre grind. I use it for dirty or hard work, if I don't want to damage the better knives.

Hello Martin 👋. Thank you for watching the video! You mentioned some very nice blades 👍. I didn’t mention it enough in the video but the craftsmanship on the knives is excellent, like it was put together by robots! Lol. They’ve got a very good factory with skilled workers, I’m very impressed and happy with the knife. We have very similar tastes in knives my friend! I like all the knives you mentioned 👍

@@BushcraftDave hey Dave - found just today your channel - very intersting! Keep on! From what I have heard yet - absolutely! TRC is not only very interesting because of the design and material choices. These are knives from Users for Users. Ergonomics must be very good and the quality in craftsmanship developed (from what I heard what the distributors in germany say after meeting him, at his place) very fast from the beginning up to today. Thanks for your kind words.

Looks like a great knife Dave. Sharp looking blade, no pun intended. LOL I’ve got one by Blind Horse Knives when they were around that looks amazingly similar but much smaller with the same blade symmetry and a flat grind. Thanks for sharing and the review. ATB Mike

Good morning, I can't decide whether to buy a TRC Classic Freedom knife or This Is Freedom. What is the blade height in mm of each one? Which one's stronger to battoning. I want to make use in Bushcraft... I await your answer to decide my purchase. Apologies for the inconvenience, thank you very much, Javier from Argentina.

This is a unique type of bushcraft knife and leans towards more finer tasks. If you want to split wood I would suggest a small axe 🪓 and use this for finer tasks. For me I like using this knife for making kindling, prepping food and making traps. It’ll be food for cutting fish too. I like carrying it around with me in case I need to cut anything. It’s more useful than thick blades for everyday use. Thank you for watching and talking to me.

You should also try to get hold of a trc south pole. Just a fantastic knife. I own over a dozen knives but the south pole is by far my favourite.

I’ll need to check that out! Thanks for the recommendation 👍

@@BushcraftDave I've also been thinking about getting what trc now call 'this is freedom' (at least I think they do)... the knife that used to be called the 'splinter deluxe'. It's very similar to this knife but with a shorter blade. Looks to be about the same thickness though. It looks like it would be an ideal knife for camping and hiking... for food prep and feather sticks etc... whilst being very lightweight. I think that when i can afford it it will be the next blade that I buy. But overall I don't think you can go wrong with any trc knife. I haven't seen what I consider a bad one in their line up yet. You can definitely tell that Mr Tricius knows a thing or two about knives and designs his products with a lot of user experience behind him.

What kind of wood is that green wood you're working with?
@BushcraftDave6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cap! It’s a fast growing weed that grows by a dried up river. I don’t know the name of it. Kinda weird huh? It’s pithy inside. But there’s plenty of it around here and I didn’t want to sacrifice an actual tree.
