Hey there Hayden, thanks for all your videos. Honestly, I have learned so much valuable info. on your channel. I feel like a can shop FJ's with confidence. The other thing I learned was that even though i like the TT models for all thier stock features, i can find properly moded FJ for less. Funny, you'd think a TT model would be used for how its made, but currently (in Colorado) all used TT variants ive seen are low mile, never off road trucks, and therefore, WAY out of my price range. I know my truck is out there somewhere, and cant wait to find it. Thanks for all the excellent content.

Thanks so much for your kind words! That’s my goal is to help folks! And you’re right, a lot of what people pay for with the special editions is the colors and badging. Once you replace and upgrade the wheels, tires, suspension, etc. you pretty much have replaced the components that made the special edition a special edition. The special editions really only have an edge for off-roading over a normal FJ when both are in their stock form. An upgraded normal FJ can easily be superior off-road to a Special Edition, so unless youre absolutely in love with a specific Special Edition color, might as well get a cheaper, normal FJ that is priced more fairly.

The reason for various packages were the brand managers changed thru the lifecycle and each manager had their own ideas about marketing. I launched the truck and did the first TRD package, then was transferred to another product. I believe it was Frank G. who backfilled me and did trail teams (the trail teams were the name I gave to the experiential marketing group that went around demo-ing the truck to consumers). I think I still have some TRD package 'brochures' somewhere. If i recall, I was just single sheet.

My 2008 fj has everything the TRD would. Not just badges. Would this have been all just added by an owner by toyota or by a dealer maybe?

I have the same , 08 fully loaded, and everything that would come on a TRD package & no badge 🤷🏻 is it 4x4 or RWD? From what I understand , there are a few rare RWD TRD packages out there , of various years.

We're dealers offering TRD upgrades for base models and calling them TRD packages? Mine is a 2014 former lease vehicle I bought in Feb 2016.It came with a TRD badge on the tailgate located above the factory toyota emblem that looks dealer installed.I knew it was not a TRD fj however it came with alloy wheels,chrome exhaust tip and other accessories that nod to the real TRD version.I call it the soccer mom upgrade version.

Yeah a dealer may have added TRD accessories but anyone like a previous owner or even the dealer could have added a TRD badge, which may look cool but doesn't make it a true TRD, which only adds to the confusion like I mentioned. So not a true TRD, but still a neat FJ 👍

So are all 2010-2012 SEs TRD models? Also for the 2010-2012 I would also have to make the assumption that there is no way of knowing its a TRD package unless the seller has an original window sticker or asking a Toyota dealership to run the VIN because people change wheels and shocks.

So there are both 2010-2012 Trail Teams Special Editions and 2010-2012 TRD Package equipped FJs. Different packages but offered during those same years. And yes if someone removed or replaced the silver TRD wheels, pillar sticker, and suspension it would be basically impossible to tell that it is/was equipped with the TRD Package.

I test Drove a TRD, 2014 Fj with 80k miles on it! It felt really sluggish & slow, like the engine is too small for the weight! I want to buy it but i think there is something wrong cause it so week, but i have nothing to compare it too! I would think TRD would be snappy, or at least feel some power? Are there any performance upgrades to the Drive train?

No, no drivetrain enhancements existed outside of the supercharged FJ's. If you can find one of those or spend the 8 grand to install the supercharger to an FJ that will add significant power to it, but the FJ nor any of the 1Gfre V6 toyotas were very powerful, though quite capable in other ways.

Hello an thank you for your video. I have the 2009 2 wheel drive iceberg fj, it has the same TRD decal an the same 16" silver wheels but how do i know if it has the trd build steen high speed tuned shocks? To make it a TRD package? I bought it from a car dealership.

If you have those other parts, then I'm sure it is a TRD Package FJ, especially if you bought it new like that.

Yep! I blacked out my first FJ since I loved the look!! The TRDSE already had the black body and roof, but I then went ahead and blacked out all the trim like what they did on the later Trail Teams Special Editions 👍

Here in Aussstraaalia we got no TRDs no specials not even a sticker. 4x4 auto with crawl control and extended tank from 2014 onwards. That's it. Removed from market in 2016.

Yeah I did a video about cool non-Us FJ features and the Australian FJs certainly had some neat goodies, but no special editions which is so sad! At least you guys got the all-red FJs!

Yep just like I said in this video, anyone can buy a random TRD sticker and slap it on the side of the FJ. Makes it confusing for folks who don’t know the official packages Toyota offered, but hopefully this video helped! Sorry your blue FJ isn’t a TRD but how great to have an FJ at all!
