TRDQ: War Without Reason: G1 Galvatron V.S. Kingdom Galvatron

Having been a fan of transformers for 15 years I somehow have been deprived of hearing the sounds G1 Galvatron makes. Clearly an oversight as it makes him ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. If I encountered a giant robot who only screeched while his eyes ignited I would make a man shaped hole in the wall.

I mean, it does. But as an upgraded megatron he kind of had to retain the gun mode, no making him a roleplay raygun was a fun toy feature.

Was always jealous that a friend of mine had the G1 figure when we were kids. Thinking about it that may have been how we became friends, when I saw him playing with it in his garden. It's a fine example of where the figures were heading at that time. Chunkier more gimmick filled plastic fun times in robot form. I miss the gimmicks. Although i suppose that's what Cyberverse is for.

Kingdom Galvatron is my surprise fav figure of the year so far, I just love him. I do have to agree his transformation is ridiculously complicated just to get him on his belly with a gun sticking out of his top.

Now that I finally have the Legacy one in my hands, I gotta pull you up on features, because you can't combine the G1 one with Brunt to give him an extra inch of height and a shoulder mounted cannon big enough to shatter the walls of Constantinople.

Pretty good episode, and I agree with the results. I finally got my G1 Galvy complete a few months ago (thank you, Destron Designs! 3D printed carrot, woo!!), and lord above I am in love with the sound and feel of them ratchet joints. And the so-satisfying *SHAUNKK* of sliding the legs up and down.

personally i would give kingdom galv the win, he’s a bit of a faff to transform and his accessories don’t do much for me, but they are character relevant, and he looks more like galvatron and poses wonderfully. on the other hand, the g1 gun mode doesn’t do much for me, the lights and sounds are a bit of fun but don’t mean much in robot mode and i just don’t like being loud during play.

Your G1 Galvatron sounds are quite different to how I remember them, apart from the chirpy one. If it's not a battery issue I wonder if some of the electronic components can fail over time. From new the other two sounds were are the same pitch but had more of a pulsing sound.

@@TRDQ ahh yeah could be camera too. One of my most effective customisations as a kid was cutting a little rectangle off a tech specs decoder and sliding it down into the top of his head to give him evil red eyes! :)

Love both Galvies, got mine from Santa on Christmas morning 87 got rid of him several years ago for the e-hobby version of him with anime colours, metal matrix and several quotes from the original Japanese voice actor from the Japanese G1 anime. Your sound chip is buggered on your version by the way- his three sounds are three different 70s/80s laser sounds ala Big Trak/Star Bird- a simple clean might solve the problem. Awesome vid, matey.

Totally agreed, G1 Galvatron has a charm that can't quite be explained. But hey, his legs DO move forward at the hips! And man, how did they manage to drop the ball so hard on the toy redeco of the Kingdom one? Surprisingly they did get the indigoesque purple right, but he looks almost white, not grey and the purple on the crown and forearms looks awful, those parts needed to be grey to complete the look properly.

I'm very biased against the G1 chunky look in general, and I personally think G1 Galvatron's colors are a bit too weird. But, as a former collector who collected to play more than display, I respect and greatly appreciate your points. It is important to remember that T stands for Toy before it stands for Transformer.
