I know right? I am a mechanic and have a hard time getting my head around it. The key to note is how worm gears and worm wheels interact and that there is a huge difference between the torque. A worm wheel (the part perpendicular to the torque axle) cannot turn a worm gear, but the opposite is possible. Ergo the drive axle can spin the worm wheels, for a differential action, but the worm wheels cannot spin the gears, ergo locking of the differential occurs. Very simple, but also hard to grasp, at least for me.

It's seems the nature of power that it wants to take the easiest course. Like water flowing from mountains that takes the easiest way back to the sea. Water must be redirected by dams or making new paths, if we want to redirect it. This is also like when turning a torque wrench too, which turns easiest when held at the end. In the case of wheels more power goes through the wheel that's easiest to spin. A wheel about to spin too much is braked by LSDs to equal the speed of the other wheel, so power will choose the path of the other wheel as well, both wheels then being equally as easy (or as difficult) to turn... It then comes down to the means of braking the wheel that is about to spin too much. The means of braking in this diff are the gears expanding due to their shape and configuration thereby creating fiction directly against the diff case.
